Waleed Aly reveals surprise obsession

The Project co-host Waleed Aly made a surprise revelation during last night’s episode, confessing that one hobby caused him to visit convenience stores in the middle of the night.

During a segment on the show, the co-hosts discussed how gamers are being encouraged to consume energy drinks by social media influencers.

A report by The Daily Telegraph shed light on how gamers are being encouraged to use supplements so that they can stay up all night and play video games.

Aly confessed that he would consume the energy drink  Bolt in the early hours of the morning so that he could keep playing Mario Kart.

“As a kid I was massively into Mario Kart, I don’t think you all know this but I was one of the best Mario Kart players in the world,” the Gold Logie winner said.

“I used to duck off to 7-11 at like three in the morning and go get [energy drinks].”

The revelation stunned his co-hosts, with Steve Price the most shocked by the admission.

Price asked: “Where were your parents when this was happening?

“What were they doing letting you go running around the streets at three in the morning?”

“Oh they didn’t let me, I just did it,” Aly said.

Comedian Tommy Little thought his secret hobby was funny, joking that while “most kids sneak out and drink in the park and you’re like, ‘I need more energy for Mario Kart'."

Gaming isn’t Aly’s only hidden talent, with the TV presenter also being the lead guitarist for Melbourne based band Robot Child.

Aly performed Pink Floyd’s ‘Comfortably Numb’ at the 2015 Walkley Awards and Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ at the Melbourne Reclink Community Cup in 2016.
