Edwina Bartholomew moves on to new project
Edwina Bartholomew has shared a bittersweet post as she and her family spend their final day in their Sydney home.
The Sunrise presenter and her husband Neil Varcoe have sold the renovated inner-west home as they prepare to move onto a new project.
Taking to Instagram, Edwina shared a series of images with her husband and two children.
“Final day in Dulwich Hill,” she captioned the post.
“It’s unlikely our kids will remember this house but we will never forget the memories we made here.
“We will miss our beautiful neighbours and our trusty second fridge/@neilwrites’ home office @sidewaysdelicafe the most.
The family sold their Dulwich Hill home in March 2023, revealing at the time that it was exciting to let the “next renovation adventure begin”.
Edwina and Varcoe had spent years on renovations to make it a “historic luxury” house.
In a previous interview with 7Life, Edwina shared it held precious memories.
“We’ve loved doing it (the renovation) but particularly this week I was a little bit sad about leaving the house,” the Sunrise star said.
“We love the area and love the neighbours.
“But as Neil said, ‘We haven’t just renovated the home, we’ve resurrected it’.
“It’s wonderful to know that the home will last for generations to come and be enjoyed by future families.”
Edwina said she has been “blown away by the response” to the sale, but joked about the universal love she shares of “perving at everyone else’s homes”.
The couple bought the home back in 2017 and fell in love with the heritage house that dates back to the 1880s.
The house once belonged to a descendant of one of the original convict labourers and the couple could not resist its rich history.
According to The Design Files, Edwina and Varcoe enlisted the help of architecture and interior design practice Studio Esteta and Wynn Build.
The reno job faced issues early on, with the second floor originally “not supported by any beams” and challenges that come with working on any older home, like redoing brickwork.
With the help of interior stylist Kate Nixon, the team put together the Sunrise star’s vision including her love for interesting antiques with some modern styling.
“I didn’t want a house where everything was new,” Edwina said, acknowledging her grandmother's influence seen in the styling, such as the floral chair in one of the bedrooms.
The end of the job came around the same time the couple had their first child, Molly, now three years old.
The couple have since welcomes a son, Thomas, one.
Edwina revealed her “obsession” with designing new homes and projects comes from both Instagram and shows such as Channel 7’s very own Better Homes and Gardens.
