5 items to never bring on a cruise (and what to pack instead)

Cruise lines do everything they can to make you feel like you’re at a home away from home, but that doesn’t mean you can bring whatever you want on-board.

Cruise Critic has put together a list containing five items you might like to (but should never) take on a cruise. Taking these items will land you in hot water!

1. Your iron

It might seem unfathomable to survive a couple of weeks without an iron, but cruise cabins don’t always have ironing facilities. If wrinkles are indeed a hassle, consider bringing along an ironing spray or even a portable mini steam oven to keep your shirts nice.

2. Any type of liquor

Believe us, you’re not going to be able to sneak anything past the cruise ship guards, and while drinks on a cruise are expensive smuggling your own liquor aboard isn’t worth it. Instead, consider these tips for getting free (or cheaper) drinks on cruise.

3. Multiple books

Cruise holidays are great opportunities to catch up on your reading, but as we all know books themselves can be bulky and cumbersome. Instead of packing multiple books on your next trip, consider an e-reader or even just sample the onboard library.

4. Coffeemakers

It might surprise you to learn how many caffeine fanatics have actually packed coffee makers over the years, but these are some cumbersome and definitely not worth the stress. If you’re really fussy about your coffee, a French press is a smaller option.

5. Beach towel

Not only are beach towels cumbersome and take up a lot of luggage space, on a cruise they’re absolutely unnecessary as there will be countless free ones.
