The cat that became a cruise ship captain

Meet Sailor the cat. Together, with his sleepy apprentice Boatswain, he’s been cruising the rivers between Moscow and St Petersburg in the height of maritime fashion.

And while they’re not steering the boat (thankfully!) they’ve shot to fame when photos of the pair lounging around on the captain’s bridge were posted to the internet.

According to Ruptly, “Sailor keeps watch on the captain’s bridge every night from midnight until 4am”, and has fast become a favourite attraction with tourists.

These days it seems as though there’s nothing cats can’t do, and Sailor has been dressed by the ship’s real captain, Vladimir Kotin, and cruising since 2008.

Sailor’s offsider Boatswain is younger and much less experienced, wearing a more junior sailor’s costume that at times he looks like he isn’t the biggest fan of.

To see Sailor and Boatswain at work, watch the video above. Aren’t these cruise cats just the cutest? What’s your favourite breed of cat?
