Day tripping: Clarence Coast

Located in New South Wales, the Clarence Coast stretches from Iluka in the North, down through Yamba, Brooms Head, Minnie Water and Wooli. It features 80 kilometres of glorious coastline, including breathtaking beaches, historic towns and villages and some of Australia's best fishing and surfing. The perfect ingredients for a day trip in the car taking in the beautiful surroundings, however, there is so much to do and explore in these parts, you may want to plan a weekend adventure!

Highlights not to be missed…

The Clarence River
Explore one of Australia's largest waterways, the Clarence River, which passes through many villages before reaching the ocean at Iluka and Yamba. It's the destination for eco adventurers as the upper reaches encompass the largest white water canoe trail in the country. Experience it for yourself by boat cruise, tinny or kayak.

Clarence Coast beaches
The Clarence Coast is known as a surfers' paradise thanks to some of the world's top surf. It boasts some of the best beaches in NSW, whether you're looking for a sandy cove hideaway or the endless stretches of white sands found on Bluff Beach and Angourie beach, which was declared a National Surfing Reserve in 2007.

Rainforests
Alongside the likes of Bundjalung National Park and Chaelundi National Park, the Clarence Coast features a Heritage-listed coastal rainforest at the Iluka Nature Reserve. This natural wonder has over 140 species of birds, which makes it a popular spot for both birdwatchers and walkers alike.

Food and markets
Make the most of local markets on your visit, which are hosted throughout the Clarence Coast in the various towns and villages. As well as farmers’ markets and craft bazaars, you'll find plenty of cafes and restaurants to tickle your fancy – try the Yamba Prawn, Wooli Oyster and other fresh local seafood.

If you do decide you want to extend your day trip into a weekend adventure, head over to Turu for some fab accommodation ideas in Yamba – where the Clarence River will be right on your doorstep.
