Severe weather warnings in place as torrential rain targets these two states

New South Wales and Queensland are set to cop a downpour on the weekend.

The record dry-spell in Sydney, which had an unseasonably warm winter, will end tomorrow with expected rainfall not seen in the city in months.

Up to 25mm of rain is set to fall in the city with 30mm expected in the west, bringing to end to the city’s lengthy dry-spell.

The temperature will also plummet for several days. Friday is tipped to only reach 22C while Saturday is expected to be 19C and Sunday forecasted to be 22C.

Meanwhile, a new weather system moving towards Queensland is expected to bring yet another soaking to parts of state still affected by heavy flooding this week.

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting for more showers across the Queensland coastline today, with the biggest rainfall expected in the far north of the state.

A severe weather warning has been issued across Queensland as up to 15 schools has been closed.

Another system will dump more rain on Queensland tomorrow through to Saturday.

Queensland is still recovering from a week of rain that has caused heavy flooding in parts of the state.

Central Queensland residents have been advised to watch rising floodwaters and move valuables to higher places.

Some homes are already “inundated with floodwaters” with some residents voluntarily relocating.

QFES acting inspector Noel King of the Gladstone Command said anybody who could safely relocate should do so and make their way to the Lowmead Fire Shed.

“If it is unsafe to do so and you can’t leave your home, and the water is rising at your home, call 000,” he said.

The good news is Queensland's southeast should see a break in the rain today, with even some sunshine possible tomorrow.
