Summer date ideas

The sun is shining and there’s not a cloud in sight – it’s officially summer so banish all thoughts of indoor activities because we’re going to be enjoying the beautiful weather with our fun summer date ideas. Here are some to get you started.

Coastal walk

Australia is blessed with many stunning coastal walks. Not only is a great opportunity to marvel at the magnificent scenery but if it gets too hot just take a quick dip in the ocean. A relaxed afternoon ambling along the coastline is also your exercise sorted for the day.

Drive-in theatre

Who remembers going on dates to the drive-in theatre when they were younger? Sadly many of the drive-in cinemas are going out of style but there are still a few around that old school romancers will love. Pack a picnic dinner, sit in the backseat and relive those teenage memories! Find out where they are here

Dinner cruises

It doesn’t have to be a big cruise for you to experience that cruising feeling. There’s a great romance in a dinner cruise – must be something to do with the starry reflections, gentle lapping of water and the beautiful passing scenery.

Frolic at a fairground

A date you can bring the grandkids too… or leave them with the parents for a night out that will remind you of your young dating days. Think sharing a cotton candy and stealing a kiss as you spin around the Ferris wheel.

Day-cation

If you can both find a weekend free then a day-cation is a fun and quirky date idea. Find a place that’s not too far away and look up all the “touristy” things you can do. Make any necessary reservations and head out. This gives you all the fun of exploring but without the planning of a real holiday.

Watch a movie under the stars

Give the traditional dinner-and-movie date night a summer twist by going to an outdoor cinema. All you need is a rug and a bottle of wine for a cosy night under the stars. There are many outdoor cinema options around the country such as Moonlight Cinema (Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Port Douglas and Sydney) and Open Air Cinemas (Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth). Movie programs have just been released for the summer seasons so book early as they are very popular.
