10 free things to do on the Gold Coast

It’s one of the prettiest parts of Australia to visit, but after flights and accommodation a trip to the Gold Coast can leave a pretty heavy dent in your holiday savings.

The good thing is there’s so much to see and do that won’t cost you a cent! Here are 10 activities on the Gold Coast you can enjoy that are 100 per cent free.

1. Swim at the beaches

The Sunshine State is blessed with some of the best beaches in the world. Head to Main Beach, or up and down the coast in either direction, and you’ll be able to sample some spectacular swimming at places like Mermaid Beach, Palm Beach and Kirra Beach.

2. Or, take a quick dip at Currumbin Rock Pools

If you’re not too comfortable in the surf, Currumbin Rock Pools provides the perfect option to get out of the heat and cool down, without having to deal with the moving tide.

3. Take in the view from some of Gold Coast’s best lookouts

Why buy a postcard when you can take a picture that’s even better yourself. Gold Coast is blessed with a range of incredible lookouts where you can take the perfect snap.  

4. Enjoy a leisurely stroll along the beach

There’s nothing like the sight of the sun rising over the Pacific Ocean, or the full moon sitting over the water at night. Gold Coast has some of the best beach walks in Australia.

5. Indulge in a bit of window shopping

One thing that Gold Coast doesn’t get enough credit for is its shopping. Keep your card in your wallet and explore the shopping centres and boutiques around Broadbeach.

6. Spend some time at the beachfront arts and crafts markets

There’s a least a couple every weekend at a number of locations up and down the coast, and these beachfront arts and crafts markets lets you see some great local work.

7. Take in an exhibit at Robina Art Gallery

If it’s more art you’re after then a visit to Robina Art Gallery certainly doesn’t go astray. Housing some of the best pieces in the region, this is the centre of Gold Coast art.

8. Take the Evandale Sculpture Walk

Located in the heart of the Gold Coast on the Nerang River, the Evandale Sculpture walk has a wonderful collection featuring local and international sculptors.

9. Break a sweat at the fitness stations

The Council at Kurrawa Park have provided a number of fitness station that you can use to break a sweat and work of whatever you at for dinner the night before.

10. Take in the surrounds at Broadwater Parklands

Perfect for picnicking, swimming, fishing and just walking, Broadwater Parklands is an incredible place on the Gold Coast to spend a perfect afternoon.
