4 common travel mistakes to avoid

Exploring the world while you’re on holidays is an undeniably enjoyable experience, but that doesn’t mean you’ve got reason to throw caution to the wind.

As a traveller it’s important to be wary of the risks. We’re going to run through four of the most common travel mistakes and what you need to do to avoid them. By planning ahead you can ensure these mistakes are at worst a slight blip on your holiday radar.

1. Not knowing costs involved with using your credit card overseas

Many people use credit cards to make purchases overseas and are not aware of fluctuating exchange rates, transaction fees and currency conversion fees.

Over60 Cash Passport™ is a prepaid card that allows you to load up to 10 currencies on the one card at an exchange rate that’s locked in*, so you’ll know exactly how much money you have before you leave. The Over60 Cash Passport is widely accepted, allowing you to make transactions, anywhere MasterCard® is accepted.

For a limited time, for new customers who buy an Over60 Cash Passport you’ll receive a bonus $25 to spend on whatever you want. The offer is valid between 26th May to September 30th 2016** and all you have to do is load a minimum of $1,500 AUD in foreign currency and register online to be eligible for your bonus. To sign up for an Over60 Cash Passport and redeem your $25 bonus click here.

2. Standing out as a tourist

If you’re wandering aimlessly through a busy intersection, wearing a Hawaiian shirt and bum bag containing your travel funds in a handful of local currency and traveller’s cheques, you’re a pickpocket’s dream. Wherever possible, try to dress low key and avoid drawing attention to yourself. The last thing you want to be doing is drawing the ire of locals there to help, and presenting yourself as an easy target to the locals who aren’t.

3. Packing valuables in your check-in luggage

We’ve all made this mistake at some point, and there’s nothing worse than knowing you’re at least eight hours from accessing your valuables as your plane leaves the tarmac. By making sure you avoid packing valuables in your check-in luggage you can be confident that you can access your money passport, medication or important documents the second you have to.

4. Booking your holiday during a high season

Booking your holiday in high season means you’re going to be paying more for every element of your trip. Instead of this, try to book your holidays in quieter, shoulder seasons. Not only will you save money but you might score a discount from hotels and tour guides seeking to attract more business.

No matter where you’re travelling to, making sure you know how to access your cash while away – and in the most affordable way – is very important. Easy to use and with countless benefits, the Over60 Cash Passport allows you to securely access your cash in the same way you use an ATM or credit card. To apply for an Over60 Cash Passport, click here.

*The prevailing exchange rate is locked in for the initial load value only. Subsequent card reloads will be processed at the then prevailing exchange rate on the day of the reload transaction.
