Australia’s favourite homegrown beers

What’s the best beer in Australia? It’s a hotly contested topic in pubs all across the ditch and the answer you receive will vary greatly depending on where you ask!

We’ve taken a look at some of Australia’s favourite beers. Scroll through the gallery above to check them out, and let us know if we’ve missed one.

Crown Lager – affectionately known as a “Crownie,” this beer was initially exclusive only to visiting dignitaries that came to Australia. Crownies are characterised by clean, smooth bitterness and a distinct finish.

Victoria Bitter – while it’s inclusion on this list is justified more by sales figures than actual taste, many Australians harbour warm feelings towards this iconic brew.

Coopers Pale Ale – refreshing, flavoursome and unique, this increasingly popular Australian beer features a cloudy looking yeast residue..

James Boags –  this Tasmanian beer is smooth and sophisticated with a pale straw colour, finely beaded bubbles, malty notes and a fresh, fruity aroma that will please.

Little Creatures Pale Ale – this ale has a unique, intense citrus and stone fruit characters, balanced with speciality malts which give it a taste that is quite original.

XXXX Gold – widely popular in the sunshine state, XXXX is a name which throws back to a time where X’s were used to indicate the strength of the drink.

James Squire Amber Ale – this full-bodied malty beer features a toffee-caramel sweetness and nutty finish balanced against citrus hop notes that are delicious.

Cascade Premium Lager – another brew from Tassie, Cascade Premium Lager is a delicious beer that has many considering a move to the apple isle if for the brew alone!
