How to get an instant upgrade if you spot this when boarding a plane
A travel expert has revealed a simple way to score yourself an upgrade on a flight – if the right circumstances align.
Rick Brown, who has published books on the best travel hacks, revealed on online forum Quora that if your assigned seat is broken, you can request a new seat and potentially get upgraded.
“If your seat is broken, you can request a new seat,” Rick said. “If one is not available in economy, they have to put you in first.”
As business class and first class aren’t usually full – but cattle class is! – more often than not you will be upgraded to business.
The website LifeHacker confirmed this insider trick saying they had experienced it themselves.
“I've been on several packed flights where passengers had broken coach seats and were reassigned to business or first since they were the only seats left.”
However, it goes without saying don’t damage the seat yourself, which is a crime, to get an upgrade.
