This is the perfect length for a holiday
Two days? Two weeks? Two months? You can find the perfect holiday no matter how much (or how little) time you have.
1. Weekend break
Sometimes you just need to get out of town for a quick break and a couple of days away can really recharge your batteries. The key to this type of holiday is to stay fairly close to home – if you have to spend hours travelling, you’ll wind up more exhausted than when you began. We’d also recommend steering clear of trips that require flights, because wasting time in an airport is no one’s idea of a holiday. Look to places you can drive to in just a few hours, like the Hunter Valley for Sydneysiders, Lorne for people living in Melbourne or the Margaret River for Perth locals.
2. Four-day getaway
With a little more time up your sleeve, you can look further afield – though we still think you should stick to Australia. This is a great opportunity to explore some more of your home country. Spend four days indulging in the food and wine of Tasmania, with a little hiking thrown in for good measure. Have a tropical beach break in Far North Queensland or in the country’s coolest town, Byron Bay.
3. A week away
Now you can start to think about overseas destinations. You still don’t want to spend too much time in transit, so look to places like New Zealand (three hours), Fiji (four hours) or Bali (six hours). A week in New Zealand gives you enough time to explore either the North or South island by car or you can hit the slopes around Queenstown during ski season. In Fiji and Bali, set yourself up on a deck chair with a brightly coloured cocktail and do nothing at all.
4. Two weeks to play
Studies have shown that this can be the ideal length for a holiday. It gives you enough time to decompress to fully enjoy the holiday experience, and some time at the end to mentally prepare yourself for heading home. It’s just as important to decide what kind of holiday you want as to choose a destination. Do you want an active trip with plenty of exploring or a relaxing flop-and-drop break to completely relax? Two weeks is perfect for seeing Japan, travelling around the country by bullet train. Or island hop around Hawaii, staying at great resorts, playing golf and doing a little shopping.
4. Two-month adventure
Here, the world is your oyster. Drive yourself on an epic road trip across the USA, take a tour through the great safari parks of Africa or cruise half way around the world. Make a plan, book your ticket and enjoy!
What do you think is the ideal length of trip for an overseas holiday? What time length has worked best for you?
