Soccer star slams airline: “What a joke. Jetstar won't let me travel”

Matildas' soccer star Sam Kerr has slammed Jetstar after claiming the budget airline refused to let her on a flight because her passport had damage.

26-year-old Kerr shared photos of travel documents which appeared to have slight wear and tear to them on Wednesday afternoon and claimed it was the reason she was denied entry onto the plane.

Kerr became Australia’s highest-ever paid female footballer in any code when she signed with the Chelsea club two weeks ago, on a $2 million deal.

“What a joke. @JetstarAirways won't let me travel due to a damaged passport,” she wrote in a furious Twitter post with photos of her Australian passport attached.

While it is not sure where Kerr was planning to travel to, it is believed she was on her way to a three-week holiday before beginning training for the second half of the Women’s Super league season.

A spokesperson for Jetstar said the airline was entitled to not let her board on the flight because of the demands placed on them by the immigration authorities.

“Our crew don’t like being the bearer of bad news, but they have to enforce the immigration requirements of the countries we fly to,” they said.

“Some countries are more strict than others on this and won’t let you enter the country with a damaged passport.”

Kerr has fast become the face of Australian women's soccer since debuting with the Matildas at the age of 15.
