Eye-watering price tag for Melissa Caddick's penthouse

A penthouse formerly owned by fraudster Melissa Caddick is on the market for an estimated $5.5 million.

The apartment, which was previously occupied by her parents Ted and Barbara Grimley, was listed for auction on October 10 and boasts stunning panoramic views of the city skyline.

“Spacious throughout and stylishly presented with understated contemporary finishes, this is the perfect opportunity for downsizers, executives and families who seek undeniable quality and convenience,” read an online listing.

Viewings for the apartment located in Eastpoint Tower at Edgecliff are only available through appointments, according to managing agents Richardson and Wrench.

Liquidators hope that the sale of the penthouse will help recover some of the money Caddick stole from over 50 investors as part of her ponzi investment scam.

The 49-year-old lived a life of luxury after stealing up to $30 million from the investors, many of whom were reportedly her close friends and family.

Jones Partners, the accounting firm in charge of liquidating Caddick's former assets, have already recouped $3 million to investors after the sale of her share portfolio and Dover Heights cliff-top mansion.

At the time, Jones Partners principal Bruce Gleeson said that it wasn't rare for investors to not get anything back from ponzi schemes.

However, he has said that the sale of the Edgecliff apartment in Sydney's eastern suburbs, would allow for further significant distributions to investors.

Caddick disappeared in November 2020, just days after her home was raided by ASIC investigators.

She is believed to be dead after her badly decomposed right foot was found washed up on a beach in the south coast of NSW on February 2021, but the rest of her body has not been found.

Images: Richardson & Wrench

Scarlett Johansson finally offloads NYC penthouse

Nearly two years after first listing it, Scarlett Johansson has finally sold her Manhattan penthouse - with nowhere near the profit she was first hoping for.

The 38-year-old actress bought the two-bedroom, two-bathroom penthouse in 2008 for $2.8 million ($USD 2.1 million), as reported by The Post.

After listing it in July of 2020 for $3.33 million ($USD 2.5 million), Johansson was forced to slash the price in December by around $830,000, before finally selling it for $2.5 million ($USD 1.87 million).

Despite the $300,000 loss, the Black Widow is unlikely to feel the pinch considering she has a net worth of $219.9 ($USD 165 million).

The home, which overlooks the East River and boasts skyline views and room for al fresco dining, was also listed for rent while Johansson was looking for a buyer for a hefty $8650 ($US 6,500) a month.

Its other features include hardwood floors, floor-to-ceiling windows, an open kitchen with marble countertops and an expansive walk-in-wardrobe in the master suite.

The new owners will also get to enjoy the amenities that come from being in an apartment building, including a full-time doorman, an additional laundry room, and a parking garage.

Images: Realtor.com

Paul 'Fatty' Vautin lists multimillion-dollar penthouse

Former footballer Paul ‘Fatty’ Vautin and his wife Kim have listed their penthouse to fuel their dream home build.

The couple first bought the four-bedroom apartment for $1.8 million when it was newly built in 2009.

“We walked in and thought ‘wow’ and then we walked on to the roof terrace, saw the views and thought ‘are you serious?’. We just knew we had to have it,” Mr Vautin said.

“I think we might have overpaid but we didn’t care, we just wanted it and we have lived comfortably here ever since.”

Spread over two floors and accessed via a private lift, the apartment is one of just three in the building and boasts panoramic views from its rooftop terrace that could fit up to 100 people.

Inside, the apartment’s second floor features a cosy lounge area, a bedroom, bathroom, and a servery window connected to the flat’s fully-equipped kitchen.

On the lower level you’ll find the family living spaces, master suite and three bedrooms with balconies.

Even though they bought it more than a decade ago, “renovation queen” Ms Vautin has made sure the home has maintained a modern look that suits its highly sought-after coastal location.

“It is a great apartment but you always need to upgrade to stop spaces looking dated,” she explained. “And we wanted to renovate the rooftop to make it more functional.”

It has been Ms Vautin’s love of renovating that has prompted the couple to sell to fulfil their dream of building their own home.

“Kim always wanted to build a house, so we’ve decided to sell this, bank the money and then take our time to look around for something else,” Mr Vautin said.

“Whether we find an old home, knock it down and rebuild, we don’t care, we just want to have the time and space to do a good job.”

The Vautins are unsure where they’ll live once the penthouse sells, but they have two rental properties they could choose from.

“It’s only going to be a year. We might even go travelling for a while, because we love travelling,” Mr Vautin said.

The home has been listed through Queensland Coast Realty for offers over $4 million.

Images: Getty Images, Queensland Coast Realty

Inside Barbara Sinatra's $11 million Los Angeles penthouse

Barbara Sinatra’s Los Angeles penthouse is hitting the market for US$8 million (AU$11.3 million).

Located on the Wilshire Corridor in Westwood, the apartment was where the late socialite lived after the death of her husband, legendary singer Frank Sinatra.

Before her death in 2017, Barbara used to entertain celebrity guests and friends such as Gregory Peck and Kirk Douglas, and invite them over for poker nights, according to Leonard Rabinowitz, listing agent of Hilton & Hyland and a friend of the Sinatras.

The 520-square-metre property boasts four bedrooms, five terraces, an open floor plan and views of the mountains, ocean and city on all four sides.

The living room features a wood-burning fireplace, along with a built-in bar and cocktail area, and a table that can be flipped over to become a poker table. A set of sliding glass doors connects the living room to the outdoor dining area with sceneries of surrounding mountains.

The formal dining room has a private outdoor atrium and lounge area, while the kitchen is lined with black marble countertops.

Before Frank died in 1998, he and Barbara split their time between their Beverly Hills estate and a Malibu beach house, Rabinowitz said. After the singer’s death, Barbara and her friends were robbed on a Beverly Hills street, prompting her to look for an apartment with additional security.

She bought the 24-hour surveillance Westwood property in the early 2000s from Marilyn and Harry Lewis of the Hamburger Hamlet restaurant chain, according to public records.

Scroll through the gallery above to see inside Barbara Sinatra’s lavish penthouse.
