Amazing footage of orcas rubbing their bellies on stones in shallow water
<p>In a display unique to the area, a group of wild orcas has been filmed gently rubbing their bellies on smooth stones in the shallow waters off Vancouver Island, Canada.</p><p>The video, which appeared online at the end of January, was recorded by Chris Wilton, a local builder, when he heard the whales at Bates Beach.</p><p>According to Wilton, “there were four or five orcas coming in and out of the beach and swimming right ashore within six feet of us.”</p><p>The resident orcas, also known as killer whales, are famous for this behaviour, but scientists are still unsure why they do it.</p><p>Watch the amazing footage below.</p><p><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TJdjSjOGZuw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></p>
