Chrissie Swan celebrates incredible milestone

Chrissie Swan has marked a big health milestone, taking to Instagram to celebrate her achievement that she doesn't talk about much publicly.

The TV presenter revealed that she has been alcohol-free for 1000 days.

“I don’t talk much about giving up the booze because it’s such a personal thing and not right for everyone – also I don’t feel comfortable encouraging people to do anything they haven’t arrived at themselves,” she admitted in her post.

She added that after 1000 days she knows "for sure it has been the right thing for me so I’m putting this here for anyone who’s thinking that maybe drinking isn’t fun anymore."

"I love love love being able to drive everywhere, leave places whenever I like and especially ESPECIALLY going to bed knowing I’ve been the most authentic version of myself AND waking up excited about another brilliant day," she said.

She revealed that she never had a “massive, long standing” problem with alcohol, but had found herself consuming it more during the lockdowns.

“I just knew it had to go. It was actually quite easy for me and the positives started within the first week. Mainly – relief. And the clarity and focus I needed to return to my original self and get to work."

"I don’t miss drinking one bit and now I never even think about it," she added.

"I am proud of myself as well - which is a sparkling and meaningful thing.

“In truth – every aspect of my life, energy, positivity and relationships have become so much better in every way since that day,” she wrote.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Chrissie Swan (@chrissieswan)

A few of her celebrity friends took to the comments to congratulate the Masked Singer star on her achievement.

“Congrats mate. Sam Newman hits back at Chrissie Swan

Sam Newman, the former AFL player and well-known media personality, has not minced words in his response to being labelled the "worst" interviewee by radio host Chrissie Swan.

During a recent episode of The Chrissie Swan Show on Nova radio, Swan candidly shared her most challenging celebrity interviews, recounting a particularly unpleasant experience with Sam Newman. Swan's producer, Jack Charles, recalled that Swan was so disheartened during their interview with Newman that she abruptly left the studio, rendering the audio unsuitable for broadcast.

Describing her encounter with Newman as the "absolute worst" of her career, Swan stated, “It was absolutely the worst by far. By far. It was terrible. It was a terrible, terrible situation and so unusual in my career to feel so attacked. It was terrible. Terrible.”

Newman did not hold back when asked about Swan's remarks in a subsequent news.com.au interview, condemning her actions as "unprofessional".

He questioned Swan's decision to invite him to the studio only to walk out when the conversation took an unfavourable turn. Newman also speculated that the interview never saw the light of day on Nova because they sought to avoid embarrassing Swan. He insisted that he never verbally abused her but rather that she was out to get him.

“What a coward to ask someone to come in, then walk out of the studio about an opinion over a topic we were talking about,” he told news.com.au. “I just gave my opinion and she walked out, how unprofessional. What a coward.”

“I was asked to come in. If you’re going to invite a guest in to help make your show a success, have the courtesy and the class not to have a predisposition to whom you’re speaking to in the first place.

“She said she felt attacked – so she should have, for her preposterous position on topical affairs that we spoke about … and she demonstrated how irrelevant and insignificant she is.”

In a final flourish, Newman described Swan, who boasts a career in media spanning two decades, as an "untalented person clinging to any vestige of fame".

Images: Getty

"Absolutely the worst": Chrissie Swan fires up on Sam Newman

Chrissie Swan has opened up on the most challenging celebrity she had to deal with during her career.

The radio personality revealed that her interview with former AFL footballer Sam Newman was one of the worst encounters she had on the local front.

“He was hands down the worst experience I’ve had in the media,” she said on her program The Chrissie Swan Show, on Monday afternoon.

Anchor Jack Charles recalled that the interview was so bad that Swan had to walk out of their Melbourne studio.

“I remember you walking out of the studio, out of the station, and I was like where’s Swanny gone?” he said and added that “We couldn’t even air the audio.”

Swan replied that it was the most "terrible" experience she has had in her entire career.

“It was absolutely the worst by far. By far. It was terrible. It was a terrible, terrible situation and so unusual in my career to feel so attacked. It was terrible. Terrible.”

Before revealing that her interview with Newman was the worst experience she ever had, Swan also shared her disappointment after meeting her idols British rock band Duran Duran a few years ago.

She said that it "was an excruciating interview. And two of the members were really rude to me. I just left there feeling like nothing.”

To which Charles responded with the old adage, “Never meet your idols."

Swan agreed, but also added that it wasn't always the case.

“It is true, isn’t it? Well, it can be true, because I have met other idols like Lily Tomlin and Gina Davis and Debbie Harry and Sarah Jessica Parker. And they were all wonderful, but Duran Duran, they really belittled me and I just felt like a big loser.”"

The 49-year-old radio personality, added that the British rock band knew that she was a massive fan, which made the interaction “even more unkind."

Despite sharing how horrible some of these celebrity interviews made her feel, Swan also offered a sympathetic ear.

“You know, harking back to what I said earlier, people are going through things and you just don’t know what."

Images: Getty

“He has overstepped the mark”: Ben Fordham slams Dr Norman Swan over Covid claims

Radio host Ben Fordham has slammed Dr Norman Swan, after the ABC health expert incorrectly claimed the deaths of Senator Kimberley Kitching and Shane Warne were linked to COVID-19.

Dr Swan was forced to apologise after he said it was a “coincidence” that the cricketer and senator died of suspected heart attacks shortly after Covid infections while discussing a study that linked Covid infection with a higher risk of heart attacks, strokes and thrombosis.

“It’s too much of a coincidence that Shane Warne and the Labor Senator in Victoria died not long after a Covid infection, and people are reporting sudden death after Covid infection. It’s not benign,” he said

But, Senator Kitching’s family told Dr Swan that she hadn’t tested positive to the virus before her death at the age of 52, and he apologised after he heard he upset the family.

“I’ve personally apologised to Andrew, her husband,” Dr Swan told news.com.au.

“I’ve clearly made an error which I deeply regret. I do recall such reports and have checked with others who did too but that doesn’t excuse my having upset the family.”

After Dr Swan’s comments, 2GB host Ben Fordham took aim at the health broadcaster, claiming he was “no better than the anti-vaxxers who claim that every person who’s died in the last two years had died of the jab”.

“He should be ashamed of himself,” Fordham said.

“We called him out for that making the point that he’s not your patient, and if he was your patient you wouldn't be talking about him.

“There’s an unwritten rule for medicos who work in the medical space: Don’t go speculating on cases you know nothing about and that’s exactly what he did yesterday on Shane Warne.”

Fordham accused the former physician of “speculating like a gossip columnist” and spreading “doomsday scenarios”, while questioning why he was still being given a platform.

“He hasn’t practised medicine since the 1980s for starters - that’s how long it’s been since he’s been in the doctor’s room treating a patient,” he claimed.

“Because of coronavirus he was in the right place at the right time and he became a bit of a superstar at the ABC.

“We’ve been calling out his doomsday scenarios, trying to scare the life out of people when it comes to coronavirus, always giving the worst case scenario... (but) he has overstepped the mark in a major way.”

After making the claims on Tuesday’s News Breakfast, Dr Swan told the Daily Mail that he mentioned Senator Kitching and Warne in passing while warning viewers not to be complacent about Australia’s fourth Covid wave.

“These are two high-profile people,” he told the Daily Mail. “One of whose death was a complete surprise, and they both had Covid in the background.

“These weren’t private deaths, they were very public and had an impact on a lot of people who scratched their heads and wondered why, and that could have been a reason.

“If I thought it was hurtful to the families, I wouldn’t have said it.

“What would be hurtful is saying Kimberley Kitching had a dreadful lifestyle, if I was blaming her for the heart attack that would be a dreadful thing to say to the family. But if it’s a side effect of Covid it starts to explain things.”

The study Dr Swan had been discussing found that an additional 10,500 cases of heart attacks, strokes and thrombosis were recorded in England and Wales, and that people were 21 times more likely to experience one of these conditions in the first week after testing positive to Covid.

After four weeks, people were 3.9 times more likely to experience these conditions.

Dr Swan told the Daily Mail that Australians should be concerned about the long-term effects of a Covid infection, including long Covid and heart complications.

Using the example of Professor Chris Goodnow, who was forced to resign as executive director of the Garvan Institute of Medical Research due to Covid-related heart complications, Dr Swan said people should try to avoid being infected.

“These heart side effects do happen, and it's probably one or two per cent of people. So your individual risk is low, but with tens of thousands being infected that's quite a lot of people in the community,” he said.

“You shouldn't go out trying to catch it thinking it's harmless and it will give you more immunity, you should try to avoid it if you can.”

Image: ABC News

Chrissie, Sam & Browny to leave popular breakfast show

Nova’s breakfast show program featuring Chrissie Swan, Sam Pang and Jonathan ‘Browny’ Brown will stop airing at the end of the year after a huge seven years.

The trio announced the bombshell news to listeners on Friday morning - just hours after their colleague Kate Richie revealed that she is stepping back from the spotlight of her Nova FM show.

Chrissie, Sam & Browny’s last show will air on December 2 after their show sat on the #1 FM or #2 FM Melbourne breakfast show 19 times since it launched back in 2015.

This has now raised questions on whether or not Chrissie will be spending more time on The Project next year after Carrie Bickmore leaves the show at the end of the year.

Chrissie however will not be leaving the Nova Network entirely saying she is excited for her new adventure.

“I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved professionally and personally since we first met in 2015 – especially the last few years as we all kept each other afloat during the pandemic,” she said.

“I’m thrilled to now put a bow on the absolute gift of the Chrissie, Sam & Browny experience and am looking forward to a new adventure with Nova.”

Sam also said he is looking forward to “sleeping in” after years of waking up early to host the radio show.

“It’s been a privilege doing breakfast radio in my hometown. I’ve loved my time at Nova and I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in the show over the past seven years,” he said.

“I would especially like to thank the listeners for their support. It has been a wonderful experience. I’ve made some life-long friends and feel very lucky to have worked with such an amazing team.”

Jonathan however will remain at the network as he continues to work with the Fox Footy team.

“When the opportunity presented itself to work alongside Chrissie, Sam and Deano seven years ago it cemented my family’s decision to make the move to Melbourne and start a new chapter post-footy,” he said.

“I’ve shared some life-changing moments with our listeners and the team have become like family to me.

“I’m grateful to the Nova family and our listeners for the opportunities in both Brisbane and Melbourne over the past 17 years and finish up feeling proud of what we’ve created together.”

Image: Nova

And it just propagates the interest in a woman’s body, which is irrelevant.”

Chrissie does not care about what is written about her and said no one she cares about speaks about her body.

She confessed that there are days where she doesn’t even look in the mirror and gets on with her day.

“I get up, I put on the same clothes every single day and I just get about my life,” she continued.

“The TV stuff is someone gives me a dress and does my hair and does my make-up. That’s what television is about.

“But...it’s a small fraction of my life. The rest is me, just living in this body. And it’s always been that way.”

Chrissie has previously acknowledged that Melbourne’s 112 day lockdown contributed to her weight loss and different lifestyle.

“We couldn't go out to dinner, we couldn't go to a friend's house, they couldn't come to us, we couldn't go outside five kilometres. All we could do was walk, and so that's what I did.”

Images: Instagram

Chrissie Swan butts heads with Steve

Chrissie Swan and Steve Price butted heads in a heated argument about protestors on The Project.

The co-hosts were discussing the Blockade Australia’s unauthorised protests in Sydney on June 27 when Price voiced his opinion, not leaving any room for Swan to talk.

“I’m not quite sure what throwing rubbish into the street and disrupting an entire city for a week is going to do except lose support for anything those people are doing,” Price asserted.

Swan tried to converse by saying “I know that it’s deeply inconvenient…” before she was cut off by a passionate Price.

“It’s pathetic! And disruptive!” Price continued with Swan saying, “Okay I’m terrified,” and giving a sideways glance at the producers.

“They deserve to go to jail,” Price continued.

This prompted co-host and comedian Peter Helliar to jump in and point out Price’s hypocrisy about people being disruptive.

“Chrissie’s trying to chat and you’re saying [the protesters are] disruptive,” he declared.

“I think on the bell curve of passion, the price for apathy is extreme caring like that,” Swan continued.

“What, breaking the law?” Price asked.

“Well, yeah I’m OK with it. I would never do that, but I think that’s the price of democracy,” Swan concluded.

Price, however, had the last word: “They’re breaking the law and they need to go to jail.

“You can have a protest like a march down the street that police endorse and let you do. [But] they do not tell people where they’re going and it’s disgraceful.”

Images: The Project

Ben Fordham slams Dr Swan's Covid "alarmism"

Radio broadcaster Ben Fordham has launched a scathing attack on the ABC's Dr Norman Swan, condemning his "Covid scare campaign" in the wake of the Omicron wave.

The 2GB radio host jumped to the defence of Dr Angelique Coetzee, who "discovered" the Omicron variant in South Africa, who claims he has been subject to online "attacks" and abuse from scientists, doctors and global politicians for down-playing the severity of the variant.

Fordham called out a series of doctors who he called "Covid alarmists", as he urged listeners not to listen to them after citing low deaths rates from the latest Covid variant.

"This doctor [Coetzee] should be celebrated for her groundbreaking research on coronavirus but instead she had people trying to convince her to shut her mouth," he said.

"The death rate from Omicron is 0.1 per cent. Its fatality rate is the same as a bad flu season in Australia."

"But the scare campaign has been in overdrive. At the start of the pandemic we were warned about 150,000 deaths in Australia. We've had 4,300."

"All tragic but nothing like we warned about," he said.

According to the Australian Department of Health, the Australian death toll has been significantly higher since the Omicron variant, as opposed to the 2021 Delta variant.

Fordham went on to slam "Covid cheerleader" Dr Swan who recently claimed that Omicron was not as mild as previously believed and gave little to no natural immunity.

"Norman Swan was ignoring the science, he was ignoring the scientist who discovered Omicron," Fordham said.

The radio host continued his praise of Dr Coetzee, who said she has been "accused of lying" by many global superpowers.

"They are accusing me of lying, of downplaying Omicron because of how it has been in Europe … in their minds, it is impossible for a disease with more than 38 mutations to be mild."

"I have stated many times before it can be a serious illness if you are unvaccinated and have comorbidities but for the majority of people it is a mild illness."

"If a clinical feature proves I am wrong, then I will apologise."

Fordham ended the segment by praising Dr Coetzee, who has vowed to "stick to her guns" and not give in to the pressure.

"Good on you doctor. Don't give in to the scaremongers," he said.

The bizarre bird Queen Elizabeth II owns thousands of

You’d think that being the longest reigning British monarch comes with enough perks, like celebrating your birthday twice a year and owning a vault of jewels.

There’s also another perk that comes with being Queen Elizabeth II, which is that she is the technical owner of all “unmarked mute swans swimming in open waters” in the UK.

The royal family’s website notes that the British crown has “held the right to claim ownership” of these animals since the 12th century.

These rights were considered valuable and “were subsequently granted by the monarch to many people and organisations as swans were a prized food, served at banquets and feasts”.

As things have changed over the last 800 years, swans are no longer considered a delicacy in Britain, but the Queen still owns all of them.

All 22,000+ mute swans are counted every year by a group headed by the Queen’s official Swan Market in an event known as “Swan Upping”.

"We will lift the whole family out of the water, we will take them ashore, we weigh them, measure them and check them for any injuries," David Barber, the Queen’s Swan Marker, told Reuters in 2019.

"You have a population of swans that hasn’t changed much since the mid 1800s."

However, the mute swan population is facing threats from non-native species and dog attacks.

"We've had a pretty rough time with...dog attacks, all sorts of things—like mink," Barber told the BBC.

"They're not indigenous to this country and they're breeding like mad on the river here, and they do take a lot of young cygnets," he said.

Due to COVID-19, this year’s Swan Upping will not be taking place.

“Although not unexpected, it is of course disappointing that members of the public and local schoolchildren will not be able to enjoy Swan Upping this year,” Barber said in a statement.

“It is always a great opportunity for the young people who attend to learn about mute swans, and see first-hand the health checks we carry out on every single family of swans along the river.”

If you’re worried about the welfare of the swans, they’re still being looked after as Swan Upping focuses on conservation and education.

"The Queen’s Swan Marker is working with the Thames Swan Rescue Organisations to continue overseeing swan welfare as usual.
