Coles and Woolworths to reopen delivery and pick-up services

Supermarket giants Woolworths and Coles have increased delivery and pick-up windows for online shoppers.

Coles said it will resume home delivery and click-and-collect services to all customers starting Wednesday, after previously restricting them to vulnerable and remote Australians amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The company warned that some items may not be available. “Coles is experiencing high demand for all products. As a result, we are unable to guarantee that you will receive all items in your order,” an email to customers read.

“In an effort to fulfil your order as best we can, if an item is unavailable, wherever possible we will select a substitute within the same product category.”

Deliveries will be made to the customer’s doorstep.

The supermarket will also continue to limit the number of customers in-store to maintain proper social distancing.

Woolworths announced there will be “tens of thousands of extra weekly home delivery windows for online customers” after it signed on an additional 5,000 third-party couriers to help deliver orders.

The supermarket giant has also established a temporary 7,000 square metre delivery hub in Melbourne, which is expected to help fulfil 5,000 additional orders each week.

The orders will be capped at 40 items and delivered next day.

“While our first priority remains the most vulnerable in the community, we can now serve many more of our regular online customers, including Delivery Unlimited subscribers, as well,” said WooliesX managing director Amanda Bardwell.

“We’ve worked hard behind the scenes to find innovative ways to provide much-needed additional delivery capacity across Australia.”
