Princess Mary can’t get enough of the beach

Princess Mary can’t get enough of the beach

When you think of the Danish royal family, it's fair to say beach outing to play in the surf in bikinis and rash vests doesn’t usually come to mind. But for Prince Frederick and Tasmanian-born Princess Mary, it’s all part of giving their children a taste of mum’s Australian heritage.

The family were spotted at Mermaid Beach in Queensland on Friday. Wearing bucket hats, board shorts and rash vests, they blended in among the crowd of local Aussie families.

Far from her usual regal wardrobe of dresses and jewels, Mary returned to her Australian roots wearing taupe bikini bottoms and a blue rash vest, sans make up. The couple were refreshingly normal and relaxed on holidays in the Gold Coast.

Prince Christian had a taste of the ferocity of the Australian surf when he found himself caught in a rip. The 10 year old was rescued by lifeguards while swimming outside the flags, but was unharmed.

Take a look at these candid shots of the Danish royal family enjoying the sun, sand and surf in Australia.
