Big 5G problem haunting the iPhone 11 launch

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">As tech giant Apple unveiled three new iPhone models that promised faster performance, increased battery life and new camera technology, industry experts are warning consumers that the product is missing a key component.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">That component is known as 5G.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The next generation mobile network has already been rolled out in Australian capital cities and it’s expected in other parts of the country in the next couple of years.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The lack of 5G is disappointing, according to Finders money expert Angus Kidman, as there’s a considerable price tag on the new iPhone 11 models.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“People always want their phone to be faster because we’ve rapidly gone from just making calls to watching video,” Mr Kidman told </span><a href="https://www.news.com.au/finance/business/technology/iphone-11-launch-big-5g-problem-plaguing-the-new-apple-phone/news-story/49a0a31684d5833733c24d8e598ff948"><span style="font-weight: 400;">news.com.au</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“We want high speed connection and I think there’s an expectation that if you’re going to pay $1900 for a phone then you should get premium service from it and, in network terms, that’s not going to be the case.”</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Past research has shown that Aussies tend to upgrade their phones once their two-year phone contract is up, but research from Finder shows that consumers are now holding onto their devices for more than three years.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I’d be saying to anyone buying a new phone now make sure you get something that’s 5G capable because it’s going to give you better functionality for longer,” Mr Kidman said.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Samsung was probably the first major brand to come out with 5G, there are some LG models out there as well.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“At the moment, very few people have a 5G phone but the expectation is that the next premium device you buy, you’d want 5G built into it.”</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">EFTM tech commentator Trevor Long has said that Apple have avoided 5G for a reason, which is simply that 5G hasn’t matured enough for the tech giant to consider adding it to their phones.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“It feels like that would be something Apple would want to avoid. 5G health risks: Should consumers be worried?

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Scientists are working hard to quash the rumours of ill-effects to your health that could be linked to the rollout of 5G technology.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Potential health effects from 5G technology range from cancers to “allergies”. These are based around radiofrequency electromagnetic energy, which is how mobile phones send and receive information.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Dr Ken Karipidis from the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency told journalists that the fear “doesn’t hold weight”.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“(Millimetre waves) don’t travel very far, so because of that there’s going to be a lot more base stations around and I think that’s one of the reasons why a lot of people are worried,” Dr Karipidis explained to </span><a href="https://thenewdaily.com.au/life/tech/2019/07/16/5g-network-health-risks/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">The New Daily</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“There is going to be a lot of infrastructure that’s near their house, for example.”</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Millimetre waves are already used in technology that has been around for sometime, with no proven health effects in the long or short term.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Dr Sarah Loughran said that there is a misunderstanding around 5G technology. As it runs at a higher frequency, people assumes it also emits higher energy levels.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“While there will be more antennas and infrastructure needed to run the 5G network, it will run at a lower power level, and therefore its energy will not penetrate as deeply into the body as older technology,” Dr Loughran said, who is at the Australian Centre for Electromagnetic Bioeffects Research out of the University of Wollongong.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">One thing the two doctors agreed on was that any energy penetration into a human body will only be skin deep. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Dr Karipidis was involved in an Australian study that sought to compare any increase in brain tumour incidences over the past 30 years with the growing popularity of mobile phones.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Dr Karipidis and his team found that there was no increase in brain tumour rates during this period as well as finding no link in the long or short-term between radiowaves and cancer.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“There are some people who believe they are sensitive to, or ‘allergic’, to electromagnetic energy,” Dr Loughan said.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“This is actually a self-diagnosis … with no medical or scientific evidence,” she said.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The 5G network has begun to be switched on in test sites around the country with a full complete roll out sometime next year.</span></p>

The new 5G smartphones causing headaches for Apple

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Telstra has recently launched a 5G network within Australia, which means that Samsung, LG and Oppo have also released their first devices that are capable of handling the new network speeds.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">As these brands are all Android phones, Apple should be worried about their market share in Australia as Aussies will want a phone that can handle the faster speeds.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Here are the top three competitors.</span></p> <p><strong>1. Samsung Galaxy S10 5G</strong></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The S10 5G Samsung device has the largest screen out of the three 5G phones on offer, measuring at 17cms. LG V50 THINQ 5G</strong></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">LG has shaken up the growing trend of newer smartphones coming with a clear case and has added a new case that snaps onto the back of the V50 ThinQ 5G that also contains a front cover with a built in touch-screen.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You’re essentially getting two smartphones in one as the dual screen offered allows you to multitask while on the go.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The dual screen is not compatible for all applications.
