“I’m so sorry I did it”: Denise Drysdale opens up about that brussels sprout incident

<p>Denise Drysdale has opened up about the continuing fallout from that brussels sprout incident last Christmas, where she lobbed a few of greens in the direction of fellow Studio 10 co-host at the time, Ita Buttrose.</p> <p>"We were supposed to tape the Christmas song for Studio 10," Denise says in an exclusive interview with <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><strong><a href="https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/tv/ita-buttrose-denise-drysdale-brussel-sprout-47918">The Australian Women's Weekly</a></strong></em></span>. "I had to get up at four in the morning to get there because I had to fly down from where I live in Queensland."</p> <p>She adds: "We'd been out at a skating rink to film a segment and then we went to this beautiful pub where they put on a lunch, the full roast turkey and the whole catastrophe.</p> <p>"There we were, singing along with the song – and I had a couple of champagnes. I didn't have to drive. I was in a jovial sort of mood and I threw a brussels sprout at Ita. I lobbed it up and over the table at her and it hit her on the chest."</p> <p>The 69-year-old two-time Gold Logie winner reiterates she meant no disrespect to Ita.</p> <p>"The upshot is that she thought I disrespected her but I didn't and I don't. I am so sorry I did it. If I'd known it was going to cause so much trouble I wouldn't have done it. I just didn't think. But that's me all over. It's nothing that I haven't done before. That's why people like me. They look at me and think, "She's a bit of whacker'. And I am. I'm a bit of a ratbag,” she says.</p> <p>Things between Ita and Denise turned sour when <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong><a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/news/news/2018/04/ita-buttrose-explains-her-sudden-departure-from-studio-10/">Ita suddenly left Studio 10 last month</a>.</strong></span></p> <p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/news/news/2018/04/studio-10-feud-denise-drysdale-finally-speaks-out-after-ita-buttrose-farewell/">Denise was noticeably quiet</a></span></strong> during Ita’s last show on Studio 10, which she attributed to the emotions stirred by ANZAC Day. However, Denise’s comments on radio once again stirred rumours of a feud between the two.</p> <p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/news/news/2018/04/ita-buttrose-responds-to-denise-drysdale/">Ita responded</a></span></strong> the next day with a pointed jab: “If it weren’t for me, Denise wouldn’t have the job at all”</p> <p><em>The full interview with Denise Drysalde is in the May issue of The Australian Women’s Weekly.</em></p>

Guide to growing sprouts

<p>Sprouts are easy to grow and are a great way to add essential vitamins and enzymes to your diet. Sprouts offer a range of great tastes as you can serve them raw or steam some such as lentils, soybeans and chickpeas. <a href="https://shop.oversixty.com.au/collections/gardening/products/kitchen-seed-sprouting-kit?utm_source=Over60&amp;utm_medium=in-article-link-kitchen-seed-sprouting-kit&amp;utm_campaign=Over60Shop&amp;utm_content=kitchen-seed-sprouting-kit" target="_blank"><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Growing sprouts</span></strong></a> is also very economical as they can multiply by up to 15 times their weight. Here is how you can easily grow them. </p> <p><strong>How to grow them</strong></p> <p>Spouts can be produced all year round but the best weather for germination is between 20°C - 28°C.</p> <p>You can grow spouts in trays, jars or sprouting bags. <a href="https://shop.oversixty.com.au/collections/gardening/products/kitchen-seed-sprouting-kit?utm_source=Over60&amp;utm_medium=in-article-link-kitchen-seed-sprouting-kit&amp;utm_campaign=Over60Shop&amp;utm_content=kitchen-seed-sprouting-kit" target="_blank"><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Multi-tiered speed sprouting trays</span></strong></a> create the perfect growing conditions and take up minimal space in your kitchen. All you need to add to the kitchen <a href="https://shop.oversixty.com.au/collections/gardening/products/kitchen-seed-sprouting-kit?utm_source=Over60&amp;utm_medium=in-article-link-kitchen-seed-sprouting-kit&amp;utm_campaign=Over60Shop&amp;utm_content=kitchen-seed-sprouting-kit" target="_blank"><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">seed spouting kit</span></strong></a> is water and seeds.</p> <p>1. Spread about 1 tablespoon of seeds in one or more of the four clear plastic trays.</p> <p>2. Stack the clear trays on top of the bottom tray and pour enough water into the top tray to cover the outlet</p> <p>3. This will commence the syphoning action and water will drain down through each of the trays and outlets</p> <p>4. Once the water has drained, empty any excess water from the bottom tray. The water that stays in the clear trays is enough to provide the necessary humidity for successful seed germination. Water in this way at least 2-3 times each day.</p> <p>Once your sprouts you are ready you can store them in the fridge. Before you put them in the fridge, drain them and put them in a container that breathes.</p> <p>Do you grow sprouts? <p>Facebook has reactivated its <strong><a href="https://www.facebook.com/safetycheck/brusselsexplosions-march2016/" target="_blank"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Safety Check</span></a></strong> feature for Brussels after yesterday’s tragic explosions. At time of writing 34 people were reported dead and 106 people injured.</p> <p>The Safety Check feature <strong><a href="https://www.facebook.com/safetycheck/brusselsexplosions-march2016/" target="_blank"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">available here</span></a></strong> allows people to check on Facebook friends who may be in Brussels. The feature lets people in an affected area show contacts they are safe.</p> <p>The Safety Check feature was originally designed for natural disasters, but was turned on during last year’s Paris attacks. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has promised to use the feature in "more human disasters."</p> <p><strong>Related links:</strong></p> <p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><a href="/news/news/2016/03/airport-worker-hailed-as-hero-brussels-explosions/"><strong>Airport worker hailed as hero after pulling people to safety amid Brussels explosions</strong></a></em></span></p> <p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><a href="/news/news/2016/03/tv-presenter-catches-5-metre-anaconda/"><strong>TV presenter catches 5 metre anaconda</strong></a></em></span></p> <p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><em><a href="/news/news/2016/03/83-year-old-barman-serves-up-drinks-and-stories/"><strong>83-year-old barman still serves up drinks and stories</strong></a></em></span></p>
