"The heartbeat of Blondie": Legendary rocker passes away

Clem Burke, the powerhouse drummer who kept the beat for Blondie across decades of chart-topping success, has died at the age of 70 following a private battle with cancer. The heartbreaking news was announced by Blondie’s founding members, singer Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein, in a solemn statement shared to the band’s official Instagram page on Monday. “It is with profound sadness that we relay news of the passing of our beloved friend and bandmate Clem Burke following a private battle with cancer,” they wrote. “Clem was not just a drummer. He was the heartbeat of Blondie.” Known for his unmatched energy and passion, Burke’s talent propelled Blondie through their meteoric rise from the New York City rock scene of the 1970s to international acclaim. Harry and Stein praised him as a force both on and off stage, calling him “a source of inspiration” and remembering his “vibrant spirit, infectious enthusiasm, and rock solid work ethic”. Burke’s thunderous drumming powered Blondie’s biggest hits, including “Call Me” and “One Way Or Another”. Though the band originally disbanded in 1982, they reunited in 1997, with Burke once again behind the kit. His final album with the band was Pollinator, released in 2017. Beyond Blondie, Burke’s legendary career saw him perform alongside music greats such as David Bowie, Bob Dylan, the Ramones – with whom he briefly played drums in 1987 – as well as Eurythmics, Iggy Pop, Joan Jett and countless others. As the band wrote, Burke was a self-proclaimed “Rock & Roll survivalist”, whose versatility and dedication made him a beloved collaborator in every circle he entered. Burke is survived by his wife of over 20 years, Ellen Burke. The couple, who married in 2003, did not have children. The type of cancer Burke battled was not disclosed in the band’s announcement. Harry and Stein concluded their tribute with a message of gratitude and mourning: “His influence and contributions have spanned decades and genres, leaving an indelible mark on every project he was a part of. We extend our deepest condolences to Clem’s family, friends, and fans around the world. Meghan Markle delighted fans on Saturday by sharing a never-before-seen image of her husband, Prince Harry, and their three-year-old daughter, Princess Lilibet, in a touching father-daughter moment. Prince Harry settles high-profile case against UK tabloids

Prince Harry has settled his high-profile lawsuit against Rupert Murdoch's The Sun newspaper in a UK court. As a result of the settlement, the UK tabloid made an unprecedented apology to the royal for intruding on his personal life, and also acknowledged intruding on the private life of his mother, the late Princess Diana. Prince Harry's attorney David Sherborne read from settlement statement in court, which states that News Group Newspapers offered a "full and unequivocal apology to the Duke of Sussex for the serious intrusion by The Sun between 1996 and 2011 into his private life, including incidents of unlawful activities carried out by private investigators working for The Sun." News Group acknowledged "phone hacking, surveillance and misuse of private information by journalists and private investigators" aimed at Harry, despite NGN having strongly denied those allegations before trial. The publishers also "further apologise to the Duke for the impact on him of the extensive coverage and serious intrusion into his private life as well as the private life of Diana, Princess of Wales, his late mother, in particular during his younger years." The statement further read, "We acknowledge and apologise for the distress caused to the Duke, and the damage inflicted on relationships, friendships and family, and have agreed to pay him substantial damages." It was the first time News Group Newspapers has acknowledged wrongdoing at The Sun, a paper once known for featuring topless women on Page 3. Harry, 40, and one other man were the only two remaining claimants out of more than 1300 others who had settled lawsuits against News Group Newspapers over allegations their phones were hacked and investigators unlawfully intruded in their lives. "This represents a vindication for the hundreds of other claimants who were strong-armed into settling without being able to get to the truth of what was done to them," Sherborne said outside the High Court in London. The outcome in the News Group case raises questions about how Harry's third case — against the publisher of the Daily Mail which is scheduled for next year — will proceed. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle lend a hand to LA fire victims

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been spotted lending a helping hand to those affected by the deadly wildfires in Los Angeles. The royal Californian residents, who live around 145 kilometres north of LA, were seen at the Pasadena Convention Centre on Friday handing out food and supplies alongside other volunteers. They also met with Pasadena mayor, Victor Gordo, and thanked first responders for their efforts amid the catastrophic fires, which have claimed at least 11 lives and destroyed tens of thousands of homes and iconic buildings. “It’s great people, great personalities and great heart for them to come out here and meet with the first responders, meet with the people who were affected,” Gordo told Fox 11 of his meeting with the pair. Mr Gordo added that their visit “really buoyed the spirits of the first responders” and that “people were very happy to see them”. “They want to be as helpful as they can be … we visited with some of the affected families in some of the burnt-out areas in Pasadena and Altadena,” he said. “They took the time to meet the people that are affected and spent time. They’re just very caring people who are concerned for their friends and neighbours.” Mr Gordo went on to explain that the high-profile couple had visited the World Centra Kitchen “anonymously” by “serving food with masks” and wearing baseball caps, insisting they weren’t there for “publicity”, but were keen to “work”. “We went to visit some of the families in the impacted area and view first-hand some of the impacted area and then they wanted to go visit the first responders and personally thank them for their efforts to help our families and their neighbours,” Mr Gordo said. AFL star Harry Himmelberg and his wife Taylia have announced the birth of their first child. The couple, who tied the knot in October, announced the birth on Instagram and revealed their newborn daughter's sweet name. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have released their annual Christmas card, featuring a collage of photos of their humanitarian work. Amidst the photos was a charming family photo, with royal fans delighted for their first glimpse of Archie and Lilibet in many months. The Christmas card has been sent to those who signed up to their subscription list, compiling moments of Prince Harry and Meghan at various appearances throughout the year. The photo with Archie, five, and Lilibet, two, seems to have been taken on the grounds of the couple's Montecito mansion. In the photo, we see Harry and Meghan standing on the driveway at their home with their arms outstretched as their children run into them. Archie is running towards his mum and Harry is crouched down as his Lilibet runs into his arms. Fans were quick to point out both the children's flaming red hair, reminiscent of Prince Harry's signature red locks. The family's three dogs are also in the shot, a black Labrador called Pula, and two Beagles called Guy and Mamma Mia. "Alive and well": Fans confused over Dr Harry Cooper death announcement

Dr Harry Cooper and Channel Seven have been forced to clarify that the famous TV vet is alive and kicking after his Wikipedia page stated he had died. According to Cooper's Wiki page, the TV personality died at the age of 80 on November 16th 2024. However, Ben Fordham and his 2GB team have confirmed that this is not the case. "[Dr. Harry] has had a bit of a shock this week, courtesy of something that appeared online," explained Fordham on his popular radio show. "This week we were contacted by a listener, they alerted us to the fact that according to Google and Wikipedia, Dr. Harry Cooper was no longer with us!" Fordham explained that he had done his own investigations of the claims and observed the Wikipedia page in question, which read that "Dr. Harry Cooper OAM, more commonly known as Dr. Harry, an Australian vet and TV personality best known for his media appearances, born February 20, 1943, died November 16, 2024." The unofficial death notice prompted several listeners to reach out to the team at 2GB, asking if they'd heard any news about Dr. Harry's alleged death. "A fan of Dr. Harry Cooper got in touch w us a couple of days ago and said, 'Did you know that Dr. Harry had died?," shared Fordham. "And we all looked at each other and said, 'No?' "And then we got another message, 'Can you confirm that Dr. Harry has passed away?' Again, we were looking online, and he was in New Idea at the start of the year celebrating his 80th birthday." "And the most recent story about Dr. Harry was from September, when he visited a camel farm." In order to confirm once and for all, Fordham reached out to the Seven Network, who provided a statement revealing the good news that, "Harry is alive and well." "After tipping off Seven, the reference to his death has been removed from Wikipedia," Fordham added. "So, its another reminder – you can't believe everything you read." "Yet another disgrace": Rolf Harris’ net worth revealed

Disgraced TV star Rolf Harris died penniless after wiping out his estimated $31 million fortune, making it difficult for his victims to claim compensation. The convicted pedophile died of neck cancer and old age last year after spending his final years as a recluse with his wife at their luxury $10 million riverside mansion in Bray, Berkshire. Harris – a staple of children’s TV in the 1980s - was convicted of 12 indecent assaults, and managed to overturn only one of his convictions. The vile pedophile was released from prison in 2017. After his death, it was said that he left a $31 million fortune that he amassed during his career to his wife Alwen Hughes and daughter Bindi, 60. However, probate documents seen by The Sun show that his assets were said to be worth just $853,436.98 when he died. When expenses were taken out the net value of his estate was $0. It is believed that most of his fortune was spent to make it difficult for his victims, who were seeking compensation, to access his wealth following his death. A large part of his fortune is believed to have been used on around-the-clock carers for him and his wife Alwen, who died in September this year after suffering from dementia. His legal documents show that his will was last signed in March 2022, a year before his death, and was witnesses by two of his carers. Investigator and ex-detective Mark Williams-Thomas, who helped to convict Harris, said: “This is yet another disgrace. “He has obviously planned to get rid of money and assets and there is no way he’d have actually been penniless. “He had amassed a huge amount of wealth and I would assume he has squirrelled it away to avoid victims making claims on it, even after his death. The man had no shame.” Harris was known for a string of children's TV hits and was the face of British Paints for more than three decades before he was dumped by the brand when he was arrested in 2013. The following year, he was convicted a found guilty on 12 counts of indecent assault, and was sentenced to five years and nine months in jail. The assaults include one on an eight-year-old fan who asked for his autograph, two on girls in their early teens, and a catalogue of abuse against his daughter's friend of over 16 years. Dr Chris Brown's new show revealed

Beloved TV personality Dr Chris Brown is returning to Aussie screens with a brand new show. Following his departure from Network Ten last year, the TV vet has joined Seven and now his latest project with the broadcaster has been revealed. Brown is set to join some other well-known Aussies including Mick Molloy, Amanda Keller, Kate Ritchie and Matt Preston, who will be his untrained and unqualified veterinary assistants on the show Once In A Lifetime. In the upcoming show the beloved vet will embark on global wildlife journeys with the other entertainers, as they help iconic animals while navigating unpredictable situations. From saving endangered species to facing wild dangers, the stars will be at the forefront to experience the best of what nature has to offer. Brown is already a big hit for Seven, after the success of his show Dream Home last year. He left Network Ten in February 2023, after a 15-year career at the network. His departure was a blow for Ten, as the popular TV presenter hosted multiple programs over the years. It is understood that he is on a two-year contract with Seven, which is believed to be worth more than $1 million a year. The stars of the Harry Potter franchise have paid tribute to Dame Maggie Smith, after the Oscar-winning actress passed away on Friday at the age of 89. Smith, who played the role of Professor McGonagall throughout the eight movies, was honoured by dozens of her co-stars, including Harry Potter himself: Daniel Radcliffe. Radcliffe shared a statement to Entertainment Weekly, writing, "She was a fierce intellect, a gloriously sharp tongue, could intimidate and charm in the same instant and was, as everyone will tell you, extremely funny." "I will always consider myself amazingly lucky to have been able to work with her, and to spend time around her on set. The word legend is overused but if it applies to anyone in our industry then it applies to her. Thank you Maggie." Emma Watson also shared a tribute on Instagram alongside the two actresses working together, reflecting on Smith's impact on set. She said, "When I was younger I had no idea of Maggie's legend — the woman I was fortunate to share space with. Rolf Harris' widow dies at age 93

The wife of disgraced paedophile TV star Rolf Harris has passed away at the age of 93, just one year after the death of her husband. Alwen Hughes stood by Harris when he was jailed in 2014 for 12 indecent assaults on four underage girls between 1968 and 1986. Hughes passed away due to a “stroke, frailty of old age, vascular dementia”, according to her death certificate. Harris died in May 2023 from neck cancer, after the couple were married for 65 years. According to reports by The Sun, Hughes has been pictured in a wheelchair and was reportedly suffering from Alzheimer’s disease in the years before her death. Alwen stood by her husband through the court proceedings and his. subsequent jail term, attending every day of Harris’ initial trial alongside their daughter Bindi. Speaking shortly after Harris’ conviction in 2014, singer Vince Hill said, “Alwen is very poorly. We’re all very worried about her." “I don’t know if she will survive his prison term. Meghan Markle has opened up about her mental health struggle in a new interview. In a joined interview with her husband Prince Harry for CBS Sunday Morning, the Duchess of Sussex admitted that she hasn't "really scraped the surface" on her struggle, as the couple launched their new project <a href="https://archewell.org/theparentsnetwork/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Parents' Network</a>. The Parents’ Network aims to support parents who lost or almost lost their child to cyberbullying and other traumas related to social media use. While speaking about online bullying and its effects on young children, the Duchess of Sussex spoke about her own experience and connection to the families, as she also had suicidal thoughts in 2021. “When you’ve been through any level of pain or trauma, I believe part of our healing journey — certainly part of mine — is being able to be really open about it,” she told Jane Pauley. "And you know, I haven't really scraped the surface on my experience. But I do think that I would never want someone else to feel that way," she continued. "And I would never want someone else to be making those sort of plans. And I would never want someone else to not be believed." "So, if me voicing what I have overcome will save someone, or encourage someone in their life to really genuinely check in on them and not assume that the appearance is good, so everything's OK, then that's worth it. "I'll take a hit for that." In a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan revealed that she had suicidal ideation while pregnant with son Archie due to the pressure of life as a royal and the way the British media treated her. “I just didn’t want to be alive anymore,” she said at the time. She also recalled reaching out to palace officials and said that she did not receive any mental health help. The initiative, launched with the couple’s Archewell Foundation, aims to make sure that no other families go through what they did. “Our kids are young; they’re 3 and 5. They’re amazing,” she told Pauley. “But all you want to do as parents is protect them. Heartache for Harry and William after the death of their uncle

Prince William and Prince Harry have been rocked by a devastating loss as their uncle has died. Lord Robert Fellowes, the husband of William and Harry’s aunt Jane, passed away at the age of 82 from undisclosed causes. Jane, an elder sister of the late Princess Diana, had been married to Robert for more than 40 years. Prince William had an especially close relationship with Fellowes, as Lord Robert and Jane’s eldest daughter, Laura, is godmother to Princess Charlotte. Lord Fellowes worked as private secretary to the late Queen Elizabeth during some of the most dramatic times during the 1990s, including when his sister-in-law Diana died in 1997 at the age of 36. It has previously been reported that throughout Lord Robert's time as a palace courtier, he sometimes had a strained relationship with his sister-in-law. However, when Diana died, he explained, “I was deeply fond of her. She was a very good person. She found it difficult in life to find happiness, and I’m sad for people who have that situation.” Lord Fellowes was long a trusted member of a small group of advisors who guided the royal family during difficult times. According to The New York Times, he helped to write the speech Elizabeth II gave to the nation from Buckingham Palace on the eve of Diana’s funeral. Prince Harry finally speaks out on "rift" with royal family

Prince Harry has finally opened up on his "rift" with the royal family for the first time, in an interview for the ITV documentary, Tabloids on Trial. The Duke of Sussex revealed that his decision to launch multiple legal battles against a string of tabloid newspapers was central to his rift with the royal family. He said that his determination to fight the publications ruined his relationship with them. “That’s certainly a central piece to it,” he said. “But, you know, that’s a hard question to answer because anything I say about my family results in a torrent of abuse from the press. “I’ve made it very clear that this is something that needs to be done. It would be nice if we, you know, did it as a family," he continued. “I believe that, again, from a service standpoint and when you are in a public role, that these are the things that we should be doing for the greater good. “But, you know, I’m doing this for my reasons. I think everything that’s played out has shown people what the truth of the matter is. “For me, the mission continues, but it has, it has, yes. It’s caused, yeah, as you say, part of a rift.” In December, London's High court ruled that he had been the victim of phone-hacking and other unlawful acts by journalists, with the knowledge of their editors at Mirror Group Newspapers. Dr Chris Brown to reunite with Amanda Keller on new show

Dr Chris Brown and Amanda Keller will be reunited on screen for the first time in two years. Keller confirmed on her WSFM breakfast show that she will reunite with Brown for his new series Once in a Lifetime, and will be travelling across the globe to film the show. “It’s a show called Once in a Lifetime, and Chris Brown is hosting this," she told listeners on Tuesday morning. “And this is a show I know that he’s wanted to do for years … I do know which country I’m going to, but I’m not allowed to say. It’s in Africa. “It’s Chris’s show. He and I are hanging out, and I’m going to be having experiences. “My nature is to over-research things and there’s nothing I can do. I can’t do that. So it’s a TV show where I can go into it floating, I can get on a plane and not have to be anxious about having to prepare something. “It’s a real gift for me, so I’m excited. But I have arranged for people to come in and play with you while I’m away.” Once in a Lifetime will air on Channel 7, and was announced last year. It is an animal adventure series starring Brown, where he will be "pushed to his limits in the pursuit of the ultimate animal encounter," according to a Channel 7 spokesperson. “But he will not be travelling to the furthest corners of the globe alone. In the most delicious twist, Chris will be taking the country’s most intriguing and entertaining personalities along … as his veterinary assistant," they added. Dr Nick Coatsworth has shared his fool-proof hacks to tackle jet lag on your next international flight. The TV host and doctor often travels around the world for work, and as a result, knows a thing or two about feeling jet lagged. "I hate jet lag. I suffer from it a lot," he told <a href="https://travel.nine.com.au/latest/flight-tips-how-to-avoid-jet-lag-dr-nick-coatsworth/37872af3-ff61-48c1-810d-4b20f4d2bde2">9Travel</a>. Despite being prone to jet lag, Coatsworth has honed his own tips for tackling the dreaded side effect of travelling across time zones. "Stay awake for as long as you possibly can to try and reset your body clock," he advises. Another go-to hack to overcome jet lag is a simple change you can make as soon as you board the plane. "As soon as I get on the plane I change my watch to the destination time," he said. While there are many tips and tricks floating around that people use to beat the dreaded jet lag, Dr Nick said all you can do is try to adjust to a new time zone as soon as possible. Dr Charlie Teo's surprising next move after Aussie surgery restrictions

One year after being slapped with restrictions that effectively stopped him from operating in Australia, Dr Charlie Teo is restarting his career overseas. The neurosurgeon was investigated by Australia’s Health Care Complaints Commission, who last year placed restrictions on the surgeon after they discovered he had been operating on tumours that had been deemed "inoperable". Now, one of China’s most respected neurosurgeons has thanked Australia for imposing such restrictions because it has allowed her country to benefit from the controversial surgeon’s ability to remove high-risk brain tumours. Dr Teo has been operating regularly in China including on high profile VIPs, and at least eight other countries around the world, according to reports from the Sunday Telegraph. An investigation has found Dr Teo has operated on 150 patients, with many of them being from Australia, in China, Spain, Germany, India, Switzerland, Brazil, Peru, South Africa, and Nepal since the restrictions effectively stopped him from operating in Australia. In an interview from Beijing, Professor Ling Feng, Deputy Director of the China International Neuroscience Institute, said she is “not worried” about the restrictions imposed on Dr Teo a year ago for unsatisfactory conduct. “I took a careful look into what happened over there. I don’t think it should be imputed to Charlie’s neglect of care and passion for the patients,” Professor Ling told the Sunday Telegraph. “It is just a different view of the indications for surgery. Similar cases occur across the world. Instead, I ‘thank’ Australia for the restrictions on Charlie, which gave me the opportunity to work with him.” In the past year, patients have travelled from Australia, Romania, Britain, Saudi Arabia, France, Indonesia, and Singapore to have Dr Teo operate. Of those surgeries Dr Teo’s logbook documents one death, one “poor” outcome, three “fair outcomes”, 20 “good outcomes” and 145 cases have been documented as “excellent”. Dr Teo says his results are better than ever and he feels terrible for patients in his own country that he can’t help, but hopes that he may one day be able to return to Australian operating rooms to help patients. “All it would take is one sensible and brave person in one hospital somewhere in Australia to change the status quo,” Dr Teo said. “Just one person to sit back and go ‘okay he might be an a**hole, he might be into money, he might be a bit of a cowboy, he might be all the things the media have said he might be, but the fact is that patients, Australian patients, some need him and he does operations that other people don’t do and most of those outcomes are good so what about we just drop the politics and allow him to operate in Australia?" “That’s all it would take … some common sense for the greater good, not for his sake but for the sake of patients.” Image credits: Instagram

The new season of Dancing With The Stars premiered on Sunday night with Chris Brown presenting alongside longtime host Sonia Kruger for the very first time. “Grief eats you away”: Prince Harry's candid interview about losing his mother

Prince Harry has spoken candidly about his ongoing struggles with grief following the death of his mother, the late Princess Diana, when he was just 12 years old. Upon his brief return to the UK, the Duke of Sussex opened up in a new interview as part of his role as global ambassador for Armed Forces charity Scotty’s Little Soldiers, who work to support children who have lost parents in the military, admitting that “grief eats you away”.
