The important cause that brought Ally Langdon to tears

Ally Langdon teared up on Thursday's episode of A Current Affair during a heartfelt segment on organ donation.

The host was discussing Jersey Day with Michael Gremmo, a father who had lost his 13-year-old son Nathan after he was critically injured when crossing the road in 2014.

Nathan went on to become an organ donor - a decision that saved six lives, including a baby.

Now his father is honouring his son's legacy by encouraging others to have the important conversation about organ and tissue donation with loved ones.

"Nathan, as most organ donors are, are healthy, fit, young people and their lives are just taken from them," Michael said.

"Dealing with Nathan not coming back, that's the hardest, but we wanted something positive to come out of a horrible situation."

The A Current Affair host fought back tears as she recalled how her own sister's life was saved after receiving a pancreas-kidney transplant in 2014.

"My sister is alive because of someone as special as Nathan and there’s not a day goes by that we don’t as a family think about them and think about their grief."

“Thank you,” Langtold told Michael tearfully.

Michael replied: “Nathan hasn’t died in vain. He’s given life. And you’ve got your sister here because of a generous donor. And it’s not just the donor, it’s their family too. When you’re in that situation it’s hard.”

Langdon then encouraged viewers to "have the conversation" about organ donation with loved ones of all ages.

"Tell your family your wishes, because the final decision is theirs," she said.

Michael said despite his son's young age, Nathan had talked about organ donation and expressed his desire to be one before his passing.

“It’s not a conversation you usually have or want to have with young children,” Michael said.

"Nathan had actually had a conversation with us, he watched a program on TV and it was about organ recipients ... he sat us down and spoke to us about that.

"And yeah, we just talked about what a wonderful gift that would be."

Jersey Day falls on Friday August 30, during which students and employees at schools and workplaces across the country are encouraged to wear their favourite jersey and have the important conversation about organ donation with their loved ones.

"It's not just the lives of the organ recipient [you save], it's the families behind that too that, you know, you don't realise how many people are affected," Michael said.

"I suppose that's why Jersey Day is so special as it's about awareness and getting it out there and having that important conversation."

To register as an organ and tissue donor, visit donatelife.gov.au.

Images: A Current Affair/ Nine

“The system is too soft”: Ally Langdon fires up over stabbing death of Vyleen White

Ally Langdon has called for an overhaul of the youth crime system in the wake of the violent death of Queensland grandmother Vyleen White.

The A Current Affair host was discussing the death of the 70-year-old, as she became visibly frustrated while talking about the rising rates of youth crime.

Langdon hinted at a nationwide issue, citing the recent stabbing death of young doctor Ash Gordon in Melbourne, who was also allegedly murdered by a teenager less than a month ago.

“Whatever we’re doing to deal with youth crime, it’s failing,” she said.

“The police do everything they can, but the system is too soft on serious crime, and we have lost faith in it and our politicians.”
<blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF;
Less than one year after taking over the coveted hosting role of A Current Affair, Ally Langdon's replacement has officially been announced.

Langdon is taking a well-deserved annual leave break for a few weeks, with another veteran female journalist taking the reins while she's away.

Just weeks after being axed from her role at 2GB radio, Deborah Knight will take over from Langdon while she's enjoying her leave.

Knight revealed her temporary new role on Instagram on Tuesday, writing, "In the @acurrentaffair9 hot seat for a couple of weeks while @allisonlangdon enjoys a break. Ally Langdon cited as a reason the Voice failed

The tense interview between Ally Langdon and Ray Martin has been cited as one of the key reasons why most Australians voted No in the Voice to Parliament referendum.

The interview, which took place two weeks before the nationwide vote, saw Langdon and Martin butt heads on A Current Affair, where Martin defended his comments about no voters being "ignorant".

During the interview, Langdon, who repeatedly interrupted Martin throughout the conversation, went on to say that the proposed law was confusing, and people "didn't understand it".

Since the defeat of the Voice referendum on Saturday, prominent author and former journalist Martin Flanagan collated the list of reasons the county voted No in a "letter to the 39 per cent".

Flanagan cited the ACA interview as crucial in voters minds, and contributed to the resounding defeat of the Voice.

“Ally said Australians didn’t understand the Voice and, as proof of this proposition, said, ‘I mean, my parents don’t understand it. They’ve looked at it, their group of friends who have looked at it and don’t understand it, that is a massive problem’,” he explained.

He appeared to take a shot at Langdon for using the revelation about her family’s lack of understanding to make a point about the entire Australian population.

Flanagan wrote that the No campaign's slogan “If you don’t know, vote no” was an extremely effective tool in making sure undecided voters voted No, rather than educate themselves, describing it as is “the second most epoch defining campaign slogan I have seen in my adult lifetime, the other being ‘It’s Time’ in 1972,” which was the slogan used by Gough Whitlam in the federal election.

Flanagan then went on to lay some of the blame squarely at Langdon's feet: "To commemorate the 2023 slogan, I would like to establish a media award named after Ally Langdon from A Current Affair.

"Ally grilled Ray Martin after he said dinosaurs were voting NO. Ally said Australians didn’t understand the Voice and, as proof of this proposition, said, 'I mean, my parents don’t understand it. They’ve looked at it, their group of friends who have looked at it and don’t understand it, that is a massive problem.'"

"The prize for my media award is a cartoon with a group of dinosaurs looking up at a billboard saying “If You Don’t Know, Vote No”. It’s not just the Voice referendum – it’s all the other things we don’t want to know about. We’ve got an overpopulated, overheating planet with two global conflicts raging as we speak. Major environmental catastrophes could have hundreds of millions of people on the move, the effect of climate change on the world’s agricultural regions could cause widespread famine etcetera etcetera. But back to you in the studio, Ally. Tell us what do your parents and their friends think."

According to Flanagan, the Yes vote failed due to "Trump-like tactics" from the No side, as he accused them of tactfully confusing and besieging Australians to “make the whole thing dull and heavy” so no one had “energy to explore the Yes case”.

He went on to say that a lack of organisation within the Yes team and a lack of continuation of momentum that was prevalent at the beginning of campaigning were also contributing factors to the Voice defeat.

Emotional interview leaves Ally Langdon in tears

A Current Affair host Ally Langdon was left in tears following an interview with renowned melanoma expert Dr Richard Scolyer.

The cancer expert revealed that he has decided to undergo a bold new therapy following his own incurable brain cancer diagnosis.

Dr Scolyer decided that instead of undergoing chemotherapy where he had "six to nine months to live at best", he chose to help progress research and treatment.

Current treatment options for the life-threatening disease are limited to surgery, and after conducting research, Dr Scoyler alongside close friend and scientific colleague Professor Georgina Long, concluded that immunotherapy was the only alternative option.

"It was a bleak outlook - standard treatment has remained unchanged for nearly two decades, and for my cancer, survival rates are zero," Dr Scoyler told the National Press Club on Wednesday.

"There were no clinical trials that I was eligible for. Accepting that status quo was never going to be an option"

Following his own diagnosis four months ago, the doctor decided to take part in an experimental treatment following a surgery, which involves a combination of immunotherapy and a vaccine designed to boost immune reaction against cancer cells.

This is all part of a clinical trial to test out the effectiveness of the vaccine, with the doctor sharing that he had "absolutely" no regrets in starting the experimental treatment.

"Faced with certain death, there was no other decision to make. I have spent my life diagnosing and researching cancer, so why would I stop now," he said.

"We've transformed melanoma, I want to give it a crack and see if we can make a different in brain cancer," he added.

Langdon teared up as the doctor shared his experience.

"I know we have to tread cautiously, it's very early stages, but it just makes me want to cry," the TV host said.

"It's so inspiring because you set out to blow up everything we know about treating brain cancer and you are doing it."

Langdon's voice broke as she praised the doctor, saying that he had "changed the world" even if his treatment was not successful.

She was also visibly teary-eyed in the outro of the segment as she described the doctor as "someone special."

Dr Scolyer's vaccine was developed using analysis of his specific tumour's genome, which allowed scientists to identify what treatment would be most effective for him.

Currently, his vaccine won't be used or sold to others, but following his experimental treatment he has gone back to work and is enjoying cycling and running.

Images: Nine/ Facebook

Ally Langdon delivers insight into her own Parental Guidance issues

Ally Langdon has shared insight into her parenting style while hosting the often controversial show, Parental Guidance.

Langdon revealed that she has learned a lot from the show, and although her parenting style has "evolved over the years”, she still struggles with staying consistent as she tries balancing out the “good days and bad days.”

"One day you get the on the ball, a bit strict mum and then the next day there's a lot going on at work... I'm like, 'You know what? You guys sort it out,'" she said.

The show host told 9Entertainment that her son, Mack, six is “sweet and delightful, and thoughtful and clever,” while her daughter Scout, four has “got a lot of spunk and she's funny and really affectionate, too.”

But, like with every parent, there are times where not everything is fine and dandy and the frustrations take over.

"We all have the good days where it's like, 'Gee whizz, I'm so good at this,' and then we come crashing back to earth the next day where they're feral, and you're feeling feral and frustrated and you're short with them," she said.

"It's the dance we do, isn't it, as parents? Good days and bad days. The parenting styles we've got on the show this season, they go through exactly the same things as all of us,” she added.

Langdon also shared that she learned a lot by watching the families in this season’s Parental Guidance and had moments where she thought “okay, that's how I'm gonna parent, I'm gonna shift, I'm gonna do a little bit more of that,” but there’s not always one solution that fits all.

Langdon confessed that she’s worried about the issues of child safety in an increasingly digital world, where children often share personal information while gaming, including their addresses, with some agreeing to meet strangers in person.

"I mean if I'm honest I'm a little bit scared of technology... I worry about it. We have some of the parents say they want their kids to be kids and don't want to open that can of worms and I relate to that, I feel the same way," Ally said.

"It's confronting, but we need to see it and I think it's a conversation we need to have around the dinner table," she concluded.

Images: Instagram

Ally Langdon finally breaks silence on Tracy Grimshaw snub

Ally Langdon has broken her silence on the apparent "snub" she copped from Tracy Grimshaw before she took over her hosting role on A Current Affair.

Langdon, who previously hosted Today alongside Karl Stefanovic for three years, even poked fun of the viral moment in November last year as rumours emerged of tensions between the two women.

The video in question was filmed as Grimshaw walked through a guard of honour at the Channel 9 studio following her final show as the ACA host, where she appeared to reject Langdon’s embrace.

Now, Langdon has opened up on the moment and the coverage surrounding the video, saying she was disheartened to see the media pitting women against one another.

Appearing on Stellar magazine's Something To Talk About podcast, she said, “It’s a great narrative of women hating women, but I’m sorry … It’s not the truth.”

“I’ve got to say, [subsequent reporting of the video] was hurtful in the sense that I’ve worked so hard and for something that’s so important to me – female relationships in this business – for that to be taken that way, I really didn’t like it.”

At the time, Grimshaw defended not embracing Langdon by saying she was overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, and there was no ill intent.

However, Langdon shared another reason why Grimshaw skipped her as she said her goodbyes.

“Trace sent me a great message very early that morning – which is good of her, because I know she was singing karaoke at [her farewell party at Sydney bar] The Pickled Possum until about two in the morning. So well done her for being up at 6am,” Langdon began.

“I think the problem was that she knew I was the new host – it hadn’t yet been announced – so she and I had been talking a lot. And I think in that moment, she’s overwhelmed because, if you know Trace, she hates a fuss."

“So we’re all standing and cheering her, and it wasn’t her favourite place to be. And it was like, ‘Gee, hang on, if I give Ally a hug and that gets snapped, then [people might know she’s the new host].’”

After Grimshaw's departure from A Current Affair, Langdon took over hosting duties in January 2023.

Ally Langdon breaks down in tears over 13-year-old life support patient

Ally Langdon has broken down in tears while hearing the heart-breaking story of 13-year-old Esra Haynes.

The A Current Affair host was joined by Esra’s parents, who shared that their daughter had fallen victim to the dangerous practice of “chroming”.

Chroming is when a person inhales solvents or other household chemicals, or aerosol deodorant in Esra’s case, to get high.

Esra’s parents, Paul and Andrea, recalled receiving a phone call while their daughter was at a sleepover that changed their lives forever.

Over the Easter long weekend, the teenager had gone into cardiac arrest as a call was made to the parents to “Come and get your daughter”.

When Andrea arrived at the home, police and paramedics were trying to resuscitate the teen before she was taken to hospital and placed on life support.

Just eight days later, Esra passed away.

“We thought we would bring her home,” Andrea told Langdon.

“We still had hope, we did not think the worst,” Paul said.

Although her parents were optimistic their little girl would recover, a scan revealed Esra had sustained irreparable brain damage from the dangerous chemicals.

The couple were forced to make the painful decision to turn off Esra's life support, and were told to bring in friends and family to say their final goodbyes to the teenager on her deathbed.

“She was put onto a bed so we could lay with her,” a heartbroken Paul said.

“We cuddled her until the end.”

Langdon was visibly overwhelmed by the parents' memories of their final day with their daughter, and teared up alongside them.

Andrea and Paul are now dedicating their time to educating young people about the dangers of chroming, which has claimed the lives of more than a dozen young Australians since 2009.

The Haynes family have an unimaginable pain that they'll never recover from.

After losing their 13-year-old loved one to a dangerous teen craze, they're now pleading with families across the nation to try and stop anyone else going through the same heartbreak. #9ACA pic.twitter.com/zZt1MF6way

— A Current Affair (@ACurrentAffair9) May 22, 2023

“It's unquestionable that this will be our crusade,” Paul told the Herald Sun.

“No matter how much you lead a horse to water, anyone can drag them away. Why Channel 7 is happy that Ally Langdon left her role on The Today Show

Channel 7 is secretly happy at the changes their competition Channel 9 has done to the breakfast show.

The broadcaster announced that Ally Langdon will leave her role on The Today Show to replace Tracy Grimshaw as host of A Current Affair.

60 Minutes reporter Sarah Abo will take over Ally’s place next to Karl Stefanovic in the new year.

But now insiders are saying that this change will see Channel 7 continue to beat Channel 9 in the breakfast TV show ratings.

“They’ve weakened their position in the real battleground. Anyone can host A Current Affair, but breakfast TV is a different game,” a Seven insider told Diary.

However, this is not the case from Channel 9’s perspective because of veteran Sunrise reporter David “Kochie” Koch limiting his workload in the new year.

Earlier this year, it was unclear whether or not Kochie will remain the face of Sunrise alongside Nat Barr.

But he was able to successfully negotiate more flexibility to spend more time with his family.

“After 20 years, I've felt I needed more flexibility in my life with my wife Libby and my business interests,” he told The Australian in October.

“So when I mentioned leaving to Seven, (CEO) James (Warburton) very kindly asked me whether we could work together on a plan that I wanted, which also kept my connection to the network and my focus on Sunrise.”

His decision is the only comfort that Channel 9 have at winning the breakfast show ratings after a very long time.

“Kochie leaving marks a huge opportunity for Today - there is no denying that,” a Nine insider said.

“He is a breakfast TV behemoth. He has underpinned Sunrise's dominance for two decades.

“The idea of a breakfast TV landscape without him gives Today clear air for the first time in 20 years and there is a real sense of opportunity here.

“It means Karl will now be the most senior presence on either show... and that could resonate with viewers.”

Image: Instagram

"You have got to be kidding me": Huge prank saved for Ally Langdon's last day

Ally Langdon's last day on the Today Show has been immortalised with a series of hilarious pranks.

After two years in the hosting chair, Friday marked Langdon's last day on the Channel Nine breakfast show before moving to her new gig as the host of A Current Affair.

True to form, co-host Karl Stefanovic couldn’t resist getting in a number of last digs at the star before her exit.

Ally was shocked as she was relentlessly tormented throughout the show, as her colleagues pranked her by having her car towed, clearing out her desk and teasing her about her alleged flatulence.

In one brutal stunt, weatherman Tim Davies appeared in the network’s carpark with a towing company hooking Ally’s car up to vacate it’s official Today parking spot.

"What? You have got to be kidding me,” Ally exclaimed as her vehicle was pulled away.

“We are having an Allison Langdon fire sale – including her car,” Tim joked.

“How much does a German junk like this get? Never looked after. A bit like Ally,” he added.

“We will shift it on out as she goes off to the bright lights of prime time and we will park it somewhere else. Wherever A Current Affair park.”

Later in the show, Tim was filmed from the Channel 9 offices dumping Ally’s photos and belongings in a cardboard box.

It was announced on Sunday night that Ally would be leaving Today to take over the spot vacated by Tracy Grimshaw, who left A Current Affair after 17 years this week.

60 Minutes reporter Sarah Abo will join the network’s morning show alongside Karl, Alex Cullen, Brooke Boney and Tim Davies on January 16th, as Ally starts her role at A Current Affair on January 30.

Karl Stefanovic responds to Ally Langdon's departure

Karl Stefanovic has responded to the news that his Today Show co-host Ally Langdon would be leaving to take on the job of hosting A Current Affair, joking that she was “turning her back” on breakfast television.

Stefanovic kept up the jokes throughout Monday’s episode, the first since it was announced that Langdon would take on the hosting gig over the weekend and follow on from long-term host Tracy Grimshaw.

“Alison Langdon, everyone – the new host of A Current Affair, of course. Congratulations, Ally,” he announced at the start of the show.

“I wasn’t sure what you would do this morning … I knew it would be something,” Langdon replied.

He quipped that he’d “spent the whole weekend working” on his short acknowledgement of Langdon’s new role, which starts on January 30.

“I could tell. The production value had your name all over it,” Langdon quipped.

“That’s all the Today show’s production value is. That part of the reason you have moved on?” he asked, before telling Langdon that they had a “big week planned for you … don’t go anywhere, not as if you can anyway”.

The jokes didn’t stop there either, with Stefanovic declaring his co-host was “turning her back” on breakfast television during an interview with Jacqui Lambie, and quipping that it was “out with the old and in with the new” following a promo teasing Sarah Abo as Langdon’s replacement.

“When you say things like that I can’t wait to go,” she said.

“And we can’t wait to shove you off. It’s going to be a wonderful week of celebrations,” he responded.

Further into the episode, Stefanovic took another playful dig at his co-host and the “countdown” until she leaves.

“The countdown is on for Ally to leave breakfast television. We’ve cleared her desk, taken her car park and thrown out her Jimmy Choos... and good riddance, I say,” he said, before claiming that her time on the show only equated to one year, not three, “when you take out all her leave and sick leave”.

While it was a show filled with plenty of jokes, there was also plenty of emotion too.

After she was joined by her replacement, 60 Minutes reporter Sarah Abo, Langdon broke down in tears while speaking about how bittersweet it was that her late father-in-law, Mike Willesee, wasn’t alive to see her take on the same role he had.

“It’s a pretty special thing to the family if I’m honest. A special thing for Mike which has sort of surprised me how much emotion he’s had around it,” she said, referring to her husband, Michael Willesee Jr.

“There’s the thought of how nice it would be had he been here,” she said, before the tears began.

As for her replacement, Langdon shared some advice for how to deal with Stefanovic.

“Call me for a counselling session and I’ll say, ‘What did he do now?’ That’s how I’ll answer the phone,” she told Abo.

In a statement released on Sunday, Stefanovic described his co-host as “extraordinary” and referenced the brutal knee injury she suffered during a segment on watersports in early 2021.

“Ally has been extraordinary over the last three years. Battling through some tough personal physical obstacles to broadcast to the country during really difficult times. She’s an incredible broadcaster and I’ll miss working with her tremendously. Though, I won’t miss her dancing,” he said.

The breakfast show host said his new co-host was a “brilliant interviewer” with the “most wicked sense of humour”.

“I can’t wait for the country to see all of those wonderful qualities every day at breakfast,” he said.

Image: Today

"I just got brushed": Ally Langdon responds to greatest snub in Australian television

An awkward exchange between Tracy Grimshaw and her rumoured A Current Affair replacement has been caught on camera and immediately went viral on social media.

The media veteran bid an emotional farewell to ACA after 17 years of hosting. Of course, Channel 9 staff delivered a standing ovation after she signed off for the last time.

However, the clip shows a very awkward exchange between Grimshaw and current Today co-host Allison Langdon.

After hugging several other staffers, Grimshaw approaches Langdon, who has her arms outstretched ready for an embrace. Instead of acknowledging this, Grimshaw instead walks right past her, appearing to slightly shake her head before leaning in for a hug with a male colleague.

The clip immediately attracted thousands of likes, comments and shares. “I’m actually second hand embarrassed for that lady,” one person wrote, while another added they “need to know the drama” behind the exchange.

“In front of at LEAST 50 people as well,” another commented, while one TikTok user said it was proof “Allison is definitely taking her place!”

@badassnewss Tracy Grimshaw has signed off ACA for the last time and also regected a hug from Today Show host - Allison Langdon on the way out 😬 bit awks. #tracygrimshaw #acurrentaffair #goodonyatrace #congratulations🎉 ♬ another love sped up - avery

Langdon and Stefanovic weighed in on the “snub” on Today describing the situation as “brutal” but explaining that there was a “reason” behind the apparent brush off.

The pair revealed they had “managed to secure some never-before-seen footage from another angle of the shock snub”, with the new clip showing the excruciating moment in even clearer detail.

“That’s the moment my heart breaks,” Langdon said.

“Look how red my face is. I just got brushed. I don’t think Tracy knows who I am.”

Stefanovic joked Langdon “didn’t have much sleep last night”, with his co-host teasing that she was “devastated” after being “brushed” by her “hero”.

They went on to share a statement from Grimshaw herself clearing up the incident, with her confirming it had been a big misunderstanding: “I’m sorry I missed you, was so overwhelmed and obviously didn’t see your petite head once Karl’s big boofhead loomed into vision. Argh, big sorry x’’ the statement said.

Langdon said she had accepted the apology and the Today co-hosts joked about it being “one of the greatest snubs in Australian television”.

“Anyway, apology accepted Trace. It was a very big night. It was a beautiful night to be part of. I have decided I still love her,” Langdon said.

Images: TikTok

"You are very handsome": Karl scolds Ally Langdon for flirting on air

Today show host Ally Langdon has been scolded by her co-host Karl Stefanovic live on the air after flirting with a royal protection officer outside of Buckingham Palace.

The 43-year-old, who was still wearing all-black in accordance with network policy, burst into fits of giggles when Stefanovic urged her to "be more respectful” after she described the royal official, named Simon, as “handsome”.

The Channel Nine breakfast show has been reporting live from London all week following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Stefanovic, aged 48, had jokingly asked the bodyguard during their interview how many ways he could “kill” him and if “torture" would be involved.

When Simon said he could take Stefanovic out quickly, Langdon laughed at his fearful expression then turned to the official to remark on his looks.

“Simon, we're good friends. Lovely to meet you. Did I tell you, you are very handsome?” she said.

Stefanovic lightly scolded Langdon for her flirty behaviour in front of Buckingham Palace while Britain continues to mourn the Queen.

“It's torture watching you guys flirt, that's what is torture - in front of the nation! Be more respectful, please. It's disgusting,” he joked.

Langdon continued giggling for a few more moments of the show, which was being broadcast live from the palace, while Simon very professionally was able to regain his composure.

Images: The Today Show

Karl and Ally slam "deplorable” private schoolboys’ messages

Content warning: This article contains disturbing content, including references to Child Sexual Abuse (CSA).

Karl Stefanovic has called out the behaviour of several students from Sydney private school Knox Grammar, after highly offensive messages sent by the boys emerged.

The school launched an internal investigation and expelled several students who were involved, with the messages exposed and referred to NSW Police.

Messages obtained by the Daily Telegraph were sent by students with usernames such as “n*****removalservice” and “Fa**othater3000” and contained a mix of racist, misogynistic, and anti-Semitic sentiments.

“Hitler is always stay in my heart… Heil Hitler,” one message read.

“I hate fems, I hate gays, jews, people who don’t play fortnite, furries, n*****s, I love titties, feet abortion, rape, drugs,” read another.

“Silly ‘pro choicers’ think women’s rights matter … I only hate children and wish for them to die, take them out at the source,” a third read.

A series of messages sent between students in a private group chat contain anti-Semitic, racist, and homophobic sentiments, as well as references to abusing children. Image: The Daily Mail

The students used Discord, an encrypted messaging app, to send the messages in a group called “Gang Gang”, which Stefanovic described as “sick” and “deplorable” before going on to call out the school’s response.

“I think this is deplorable. The school should be run over the coals,” he began.

“If I’m a parent at the school, I’m pulling my kid out.

“I think this is one of the most disgusting and deplorable things I have seen.”

The Today show host said that although “boys will be boys” - a phrase that comes from a Latin proverb that “children are children and do childish things” - what these students did went “way too far”.

“They need to be absolutely pulled over the coals, these kids,” Stefanovic said.

“How do we expect these boys to grow up and respect women when they are circulating this sort of rubbish around themselves.

“And they take that into the workplace and the culture continues. I mean, it needs to be eliminated and eliminated now.

“It’s just disgusting what we read this morning. It makes you sick.”

Co-host Ally Langdon also shared her disgust at the “revolting” messages.

“Some of this stuff is downright revolting,” she said.

“I think sometimes it can be dismissed as boys will be boys but what was read and what was posted on this site was so offensive it takes it to a whole new level.”

The group chat, which was believed to have been created about two years ago, also contained disturbing videos of young men appearing to be raped or assaulted, as well as comments about wanting to rape children and being a paedophile.

Crime reporter Mark Morri, who was alerted to the chat room’s content by a source, has since passed on material from the group chat to the NSW Police Child Abuse and Sex Crimes unit.

“Even if they see no criminality or come back saying that it is in fact over-the-top teenage behaviour, I’m very comfortable in exposing this because I think every parent in every school should know that impressionable teenagers are dabbling in a secret and dark world that we have to address,” he wrote.

A spokesperson from Knox Grammar told The Daily Mail that the students had been expelled and are now “trying to settle in at other schools”.

In a letter sent home to parents last week, Knox Headmaster Scott James said the students had posted “inappropriate messages and engaged in offensive community in private chat rooms”.

“The nature of these posts is contrary to the values and culture of Knox and is unacceptable,” the letter read.

“The actions of these boys do not reflect a Knox education or the expectations that we place on our students to be respectful and responsible citizens in the community.”

Mr James said the students’ punishment varied depending on their participation, from being suspended to leaving the school, and had all been to counselling and taken part in lessons “to reiterate the importance of respectful and appropriate behaviour as well as the impact of their choices”.

Knox Grammar Headmaster Scott James wrote to parents about the behaviour and asked them to speak with their sons about how they act on social media. Image: The Daily Telegraph

The letter also revealed that the group chat included doctored photos of images taken during school activities, which have been discussed with the families of identifiable students and police.

“To be very clear, the doctored images do not require mandatory reporting under child protection requirements, and we have discussed the matter with Police,” the letter said.

Parents were asked to speak to their sons about using social media and acting respectfully “whether on line or in person”.

Forensic psychologist Tim Watson-Munro said the content was deeply disturbing and that “it gives off a feeling of a club or even a cult”.

“Obviously there is an aspect of, perhaps, teenage boys trying to outdo each other by trying to post the most outrageous comments. But there is also some very dangerous aspects to this behaviour,” he told the Telegraph.

“Constant talk and exposure to these themes can lead to desensitisation. If someone is a bit unhinged in this group it could cause them to act out in reality some of the violent themes which have been spoken about in the posts.”

Mr Watson-Munro said social media and chat rooms have power and influence over young people that pose major challenges for schools, parents, and broder society, and called on parents to be aware and proactive with their children.

“Parents do have to be aware of what their children are accessing on their computers and schools have to also be proactive in how they police and educate their charges,” he said.

“It’s very different to what any previous generation has seen in regards to exposure of pornography, violence and other anti-social behaviour.’’

If you or anyone you know needs immediate mental health support, contact Lifeline on 13 11 14 or beyondblue on 1300 224 636, or visit lifeline.org.au or beyondblue.org.au.

Image: The Today Show

Ally Langdon rips into Meghan Markle

Ally Langdon has torn into Meghan Markle in the wake of her new podcast hitting Spotify, admitting she "tries to like" the exiled royal, but "there's just something" about her.

The Today Show host was joined by Australia's minister for sport and aged care, Anika Wells, on Wednesday morning, as the pair discussed the launch episode of Archetypes: Meghan's new Spotify exclusive podcast.

Together the women dissected Meghan's chat with tennis champion Serena Williams, and the story in which Meghan confirmed a fire in baby Archie's nursery during a royal engagement in Africa in 2019.

In the podcast, Meghan explained how their family had only been in the township of Nyanga for a few hours before the incident took place.

She detailed how then four-month-old Archie narrowly avoided a fire in his nursery as his nanny took him to another part of the residence when the heater burst into flames.

The Duchess then shared how she was required to attend another formal engagement, rather than stay home with her child.

While discussing the clip, Langdon pointed out that Meghan often "divided opinion".

She said, "I really try to like Meghan Markle... but there's just something, you know?"

Ms Wells agreed and said Meghan "should have pushed harder" to be with her child and taken him to the second public engagement.

"Ultimately I think, she should have pushed on, she should have fought harder," the minister said.

"She should have just brought the baby, made the point and said something."

"Because I think ultimately what everyone wants is authenticity in people in public life, and if that means being honest about caring responsibilities that ultimately creates better public policy."

Channel Nine's entertainment reporter Peter Ford also weighed in on the Duchess of Sussex's new project in a tweet, writing that it was "just another way she can talk about herself".

The first episode of Archetypes is available now on Spotify, and will feature a new guest each week, with next week's guest being music legend Mariah Carey.

Image credits: Spotify / The Today Show
