“I was set up”: Succession star slams awkward interview

Nicholas Braun has spoken out about the awkward moment he was cut off during an interview on The Project, claiming he was “set up”.

The actor, who is in Australia promoting the new season of Succession, appeared on the Channel Ten panel show on Sunday night in what became a tense chat with hosts Sarah Harris and Hamish Macdonald.

Fans were angered when Braun was abruptly cut off during the interview, as the 34-year-old actor was sharing an anecdote about when he met Hollywood director Quentin Tarantino.

Braun has now spoken out about the interview moment at a VIP screening of Succession Episode Two, saying he wished he had a “few more minutes” to speak.

“I had this guy yelling in my ear saying it was a minute left and all this stuff then they asked me to tell the story about Quentin Tarantino,” he told The Daily Telegraph.

“I must have had only like 20 seconds left. I was set up to just yell at the end. I think I managed to finish the story. I just wish I had a few more minutes or it was in person. Next time maybe I can do it on the desk or read some news.”

During his interview on The Project, Braun was sharing how he met Tarantino onboard a plane when he was 21, and attempted to pitch himself to the director with a magazine ad of his children’s flick, Minutemen.

“So I saw Quentin and he was in first class and I walked past him. And when I got to my seat I was like, ‘I have to do something, I have to say something to Quentin,’” Braun said via video link from Melbourne.

“So I ripped the [movie] ad off the back of the magazine and I brought it to Quentin and I was like ‘Hi Quentin, you don’t know me but this is me here on this ad’,” he explained.

However, Braun was unable to finish telling the incredible story as Harris cut him off, saying, “We’re running out of time” as they had to go to a commercial break before a live cross with Kerri-Anne Kennerley, who is currently competing on I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!.

Image credits: The Project / Binge

“We are all praying”: Andrew Lloyd Webber’s family heartbreak

Andrew Lloyd Webber has shared the devastating news that his eldest son, Nicholas, is “critically” ill with gastric cancer.

The composer, known around the world for his award-winning musicals, revealed that he and his family are “absolutely devastated” about the 43-year-old Nicholas’ diagnosis, and brave 18 month fight.

In a statement to People, Andrew gave the update that “as my friends and family know, he has been fighting gastric cancer for the last 18 months and Nick is now hospitalised.

“I, therefore, have not been able to attend the recent previews of Bad Cinderella and, as things stand, I will not be able to cheer on its wonderful cast, crew and orchestra on opening night this Thursday.

"We are all praying that Nick will turn the corner," Webber continued. "He is bravely fighting with his indomitable humour, but at the moment my place is with him and the family."

Bad Cinderella is Andrew’s latest Broadway creation - the 21st to his name - and is loosely adapted from the classic Cinderella story, with the titular character seeking to "create her own happily ever after.”

It is set to open in March, and prior to the devastating news about Nicholas, he was to attend its associated press events. It’s also Andrew’s first production since School of Rock closed in 2019.

Like his father, Nicholas Lloyd Webber - who is the son of Andrew and his first first, Sarah Hugill - has made a name for himself in the composing world.

He scored BBC One’s Love, Lies and Records, the 2021 film The Last Bus, and the original cast recording album for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella - from which he received his first ever Grammy nomination.

Nicholas’ first production came in 2011, when his musical adaptation of The Little Prince was performed. In light of the milestone event, Nicholas admitted that he was “very nervous”, as he knew there would be attention on him as the son of Andrew.

“But I’d like to think that the show will be judged on its own merits,” he continued, “that’s all anyone can ask for.”

And in 2011, he told The Times that he’d actually opted to drop the Lloyd part of his name for a while, just to see how attitudes toward himself and his work would shift.

“I got some stuff on the radio,” he said, “so I thought ‘okay, I’m obviously not a complete idiot’.”

From there, he came to realise that if people were happy to work with him regardless of his surname, then “maybe I should just get on with it.”

Images: Getty

"A living miracle": Deadly helicopter crash survivor speaks after waking from coma

The young survivor of the deadly helicopter crash in Queensland has woken from his coma and spoken to his father for the first time since the tragedy.

Nicholas Tadros was one of seven people on-board a joy ride helicopter that crashed near SeaWorld theme park on the Gold Coast.

Four people died in the incident, including his mother Vanessa.

The family's parish priest Suresh Kumar described the boy as a "living miracle" after he woke up from an induced coma almost one month after the horrific crash.

“This little boy is a living miracle friends,” Father Kumar said in a post to Facebook on Saturday.

The priest was overjoyed to reveal that Nicholas did not have any lasting brain injuries and was able to speak to his father Simon for the first time over the weekend.

“A billion thanks to God. He doesn’t have brain injury,” Father Kumar said.

“Simon is able to talk to him and Nicholas responds very clearly with names, dates etc though his voice is bit slur.”

The priest went on to suggest that Nicholas’s miraculous survival could have been a result of the heroic acts of his late mother.

“His mum Vanessa might have grabbed his head and protected him at the impact. She is a hero,” Father Kumar said.

“Nicholas will be able to tell us when he is able to recollect. May Vanessa’s soul rest in peace.”

Nicholas still has a long road to recovery ahead of him, as the medical team in charge of his care are working to save his leg form amputation after it was "shattered very badly" during the crash.

“We have got to keep praying that his leg is not amputated as the danger of losing his leg is still looming,” Father Kumar said.

“Overall, our little champ is fighting the good fight and keeps improving.”

Five fashion mistakes to avoid for over 50s

With the fashion industry primarily targeting younger women, finding clothes that make older women feel confident and stylish can be quite difficult.

To help you look your best and embrace your personal style despite the challenges, we spoke to New York fashion designer Lindsay Nicholas, the President and Creative Director for her premium womenswear label, Lindsay Nicholas New York.

“Over 50s have largely been ignored by the fashion houses, yet these are the people with the largest disposable income and the greatest sense of self,” Lindsay explains.

“Women 50-plus want to be elegant and sexy, but not in an overt way.”

Lindsay Nicholas travelled the world and spent more than two decades working in marketing before starting a fashion line of her own. Deb Knight opens up about unexpected dilemma after IVF

When Channel Nine journalist Deb Knight and her husband Lindsay Dunbar turned to IVF to have kids, they were faced with a rather unexpected decision afterwards: what to do with the one leftover embryo?

Knight, who went through two years and 11 cycles of IVF to have son Darcy and daughter Elsa, eight and seven respectively (21-month-old Audrey was a “lovely surprise”), visited the Today show yesterday to talk about the rarely-discussed dilemma faced by thousands of parents around the country.

A post shared by Deborah Knight (@deborah_knight) on Apr 22, 2017 at 6:24am PDT

There are four common options for parents with leftover embryos – using them, donating them to another couple, donating them to medical research, or discarding them. After much thought, Knight and Dunbar decided to donate their “spare” embryo to medical research.

“If I had a friend or family member who was having trouble conceiving, that would be a different scenario,” the 45-year-old explained. “Donating to a stranger ... you have to connect with that person. You have to then go down the process of giving up all of your rights to that potential child. There are all sorts of legal issues to consider.”

According to IVF specialist Dr Rick Gordon, only around one in 100 couples who consider donating their remaining embryo(s) to a couple struggling with their fertility actually go through with it.

“When the penny drops that it's their own child out there – a sibling to their own children – that's a different kettle of fish,” he said. "We’re talking cells here, but to people's brains, these are potential human beings.”

Today show co-host Georgie Gardner praised Knight for speaking so openly about a topic so rarely discussed. “I appreciate so much you being so candid and sharing your experience.”

Knight replied that she only hoped her story would help others grapple with the difficult decision. “Hopefully it helps others going through the process to know that they’re not alone.”

Nicholas Winton, who saved hundreds of Jewish children from Holocaust, dies aged 106

Sir Nicholas Winton, often called the “British Schindler” for his role in rescuing hundreds of Jewish children from the Holocaust, has died at the age of 106.

A hero of World War II, Winton organised the evacuation of 669 children out of Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia to Britain in 1939, saving them from being sent to concentration camps.

Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted his respect for the great man, writing: “The world has lost a great man. We must never forget Sir Nicholas Winton's humanity in saving so many children from the Holocaust."

The unassuming hero kept his role in the rescues secret for half-a-century – even from his wife and children.
