Qatar Airways celebrates special milestone with huge sale

<p>Qatar Airways launched its first service in Australia 15 years ago and to celebrate the special milestone they have announced an epic sale. </p> <p>Prices have dropped for a bunch of their popular destinations including Nice, London, Dublin, Lisbon, New York and Seychelles. </p> <p>The sale is on now until September 30, 2024 for flights between October 1, 2024 to June 10, 2025.</p> <p>Economy flights from Sydney to London start from $1849, or business class from $8189. </p> <p>For those in Melbourne wanting to experience their Europe summer, flights to Nice start from from $1849 or on business class from $8099.</p> <p>And if you're looking to visit the concrete jungle, flights to New York from Brisbane start from $1839 for economy or $7859 for business class. </p> <p>The fares include taxes, fees and airport surcharges. </p> <p>The Doha-based airline offers services to more than 49 destinations from Australia across Europe and the UK, 29 destinations across Africa, and 33 destinations across the Middle East. They also offer flights to 13 destinations across North and South America. </p> <p>In 2024, Qatar Airways was voted the World's Best Airline in the annual Skytrax’s World Airline Awards in June, for the eighth time. </p> <p>It also won the awards for World’s Best Business Class, World’s Best Business Class Airline Lounge and Best Airline in the Middle East.</p> <p>“This is a proud moment for Qatar Airways. I am honoured to share this award with my dedicated team,” Qatar Airways group chief executive officer, Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, said at the Skytrax event in London.</p> <p>“This award is a testimony to our relentless commitment to providing unparalleled service and innovation. Rod Stewart forced to cancel milestone concert

<p>Rod Stewart has been forced to cancel a milestone concert after falling ill. </p> <p>The 79-year-old rockstar shared an emotional message with his fans on Instagram saying he has had to pull out of his 200th show as part of his Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace due to strep throat.</p> <p>In his post, Stewart said he was "desperately sorry" and "absolutely gutted" over the cancellation.</p> <p>"I'm desperately sorry to miss this 200th show celebration," Stewart began. "Most people can work with strep throat but obviously not me."</p> <p>"I'm absolutely gutted. I've been looking forward to this concert for so long. My deepest regrets for any inconvenience this has caused."</p> <p>Stewart finished the post by adding that he'll be returning to the stage next year to make it up to fans.</p> <p>"Thankfully we'll now be returning in 2025 and I hope to see you all there," he finished, adding a heartbroken emoji.</p> <p>Just days before sharing news of the cancellation, Stewart announced his plans to extend his Las Vegas residency into 2025.</p> <p>"Vegas, I'm having too much fun for this to end so we are coming back for an encore!" he said, adding that he will be playing shows until May next year.</p> <p><em>Image credits: Getty Images</em></p>

Jimmy Barnes celebrates special milestone

<p>Jimmy Barnes has celebrated his 43rd wedding anniversary with his wife Jane, a few months after he underwent open heart surgery. </p> <p>The rock star, 68, marked the occasion on Thursday by posting a series of photos of him and Jane over the years to Instagram. </p> <p>"43 years married and we both forgot that our anniversary was today," he wrote in the caption. </p> <p>"It doesn’t matter though because everyday is special to us. I thought I was gone," he previously told<em> 60 minutes</em>. </p> <p>The surgery lasted seven hours and physicians successfully replaced his damaged valves. </p> <p>Five months on, his recovery has been going well, with the singer walking his daughter down <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/lifestyle/family-pets/jimmy-barnes-walks-daughter-down-the-aisle" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the aisle</a> in March and even <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/entertainment/music/jimmy-barnes-makes-his-triumphant-return-to-the-stage" target="_blank" rel="noopener">returned to the stage </a>for the first time last month. </p> <p><em>Images: Instagram </em></p>

'Australia's Forrest Gump' reaches major milestone

<p>The man dubbed Australia's Forrest Gump has arrived back Down Under to complete the final leg of a mammoth journey. </p> <p>Tim Franklin has long dreamed of becoming the fastest person to run from one end of the world to the other, and has already completed most of his journey. </p> <p>The 40-year-old has run over 19,000 kilometres through 17 countries across five continents, setting off on his epic adventure in December 2022. </p> <p>With a world record in his sights, has been averaging more than a marathon a day for the past 427 days, as he battled floods, snow, exhaustion and injury on his travels. </p> <p>The worst of his hurdles came when his father was dying, as he decided to pause his journey to come home and say his goodbyes to the man he describes as "my hero, my mentor".</p> <p>"That message he gave me of 'go out and finish that damn run' was the last thing he said to me before he passed away," Franklin told <a href="https://www.9news.com.au/national/australias-forrest-gump-tim-franklin-lands-australia-final-leg-tim-runs-the-world/c3dac7d4-8c71-4fc5-84e2-4fbd2fb5af61" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>9News</em></a>.</p> <p>The pause in proceedings knocked him out of world record pace but it didn't derail his dream and only further fuelling the fire for him to achieve his goals. </p> <p>In order to "officially" run around the world, certain kilometres need to completed in each continent.</p> <p>Franklin started his journey in New Zealand, before heading coast to coast across the US, then South America, and across from Spain through Europe to the Black Sea.</p> <p>After a short stint in Asia he decided to head back to Australia, landing in Perth to a surprise greeting from his siblings.</p> <p>Now, it's the beginning of the end as Franklin makes his way from Perth to Brisbane, via Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.</p> <p>"[I'm] really excited to be back here in Aus for the last leg of my run."</p> <p>When he finally reaches Queensland, his friends and family will be waiting but there's one thing the 40-year-old is looking forward to most.</p> <p>"I just wanna give my mum a hug to be honest," he said.</p> <p><em>Image credits: 9News</em></p>

The Beast marks major weight loss milestone

<p>Mark 'The Beast' Labbett has shared a major weight loss milestone, with his partner Hayley celebrating his ongoing health journey. </p> <p><em>The Chase Australia</em> star has been overhauling his life since 2020, and has been documenting his weight loss on social media. </p> <p>Now, Labbett's girlfriend, English TV presenter Hayley Palmer, has shared a video of the couple working out together, as they have welcomed in the New Year with fresh fitness goals. </p> <p>In the video, Labbett is shown walking on a treadmill, lifting weights and standing on a set of scales, where he weighs in at 124.8kg. </p> <p>Labbett weighed about 185kg at his heaviest, as he has now lost over 60kgs. </p> <p>“I’m so proud of @markthebeastlabbett,” Hayley captioned the workout video.</p> <p>“He started to come to gym with me in the morning, and he is doing so well.”</p> <p>“Wow, unbelievable achievement,” one fan commented, followed by another who said he looks “amazing” and should be proud.</p> <p>“Well done and congrats! Chrissie Swan celebrates incredible milestone

<p>Chrissie Swan has marked a big health milestone, taking to Instagram to celebrate her achievement that she doesn't talk about much publicly. </p> <p>The TV presenter revealed that she has been alcohol-free for 1000 days. </p> <p>“I don’t talk much about giving up the booze because it’s such a personal thing and not right for everyone – also I don’t feel comfortable encouraging people to do anything they haven’t arrived at themselves,” she admitted in her post. </p> <p>She added that after 1000 days she knows "for sure it has been the right thing for me so I’m putting this here for anyone who’s thinking that maybe drinking isn’t fun anymore."</p> <p>"I love love love being able to drive everywhere, leave places whenever I like and especially ESPECIALLY going to bed knowing I’ve been the most authentic version of myself AND waking up excited about another brilliant day," she said. </p> <p>She revealed that she never had a “massive, long standing” problem with alcohol, but had found herself consuming it more during the lockdowns. </p> <p>“I just knew it had to go. It was actually quite easy for me and the positives started within the first week. Mainly – relief. <p dir="ltr">Ellen DeGeneres shared a sweet throwback snap of her August 2008 wedding with Portia de Rossi, to mark a very special milestone for LGBTQIA+ love.</p> <p dir="ltr">The 65-year-old comedian took to Instagram to honour the eight anniversary of the Supreme Court legalising same-sex marriages in the United States.</p> <p dir="ltr">"8 years ago today marks an important moment. “Our Disney princess”: Grace Irwin’s magical milestone

<p dir="ltr">Bindi Irwin and her family were all smiles on a recent trip to “the most magical place on Earth”, with some of their favourite highlights documented on social media for their fans to enjoy the occasion right along with them.</p> <p dir="ltr">The day was something of a milestone for two-year-old Grace, who was making her first trip to Disneyland alongside Bindi and Chandler. </p> <p dir="ltr">“Our Disney princess visited the most magical place on Earth for the very first time,” Bindi wrote. “My. Heart.”</p> <p dir="ltr">In the clip accompanying the caption, a series of snaps and short videos played out, though two things remained constant throughout - the delight on their faces, and the wonder on young Grace’s.</p> <p dir="ltr">It opened with a sweet family picture in front of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle, a popular location in the centre of the park for capturing the all-important Disney portrait. </p> <p dir="ltr">Next, Grace had been introduced to a bubble wand in her dad’s arms, before the family were captured flying through the air on Disney’s Dumbo The Flying Elephant ride.</p> <p dir="ltr">From there, Grace was pictured exploring the park - on her own feet and from her mum’s embrace - as well as dancing to live music, meeting some iconic Disney characters, hosting her very own princess tea party, and experiencing the wonder of the world famous It’s a Small World attraction. </p> <p dir="ltr">All, it appears, picture perfect items on any Disneyland agenda. </p> <blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; 90-year-old-with chronic leukaemia skydives for charity

<p>A thrill-seeking 90-year-old has celebrated her birthday - in what some would call an unconventional manner for her age - by skydiving, and raising £5,000 for a homeless charity in the process.</p> <p>Shirley Robinson, from Long Clawson in Leicestershire, jumped out of a plane at 14,000ft for the fundraiser at Skydive Langar in Nottinghamshire.</p> <p>Shirley, who was diagnosed with chronic leukaemia in 2022, raised funds for Crisis, a charity that provides help and support for homeless people.</p> <p>She told <em>BBC News</em>, “It's just wonderful how generous people have been. "I'm so proud": Karl's sweet tribute to his daughter

<p>Karl Stefanovic has paid tribute to his daughter on her 18th birthday. </p> <p>The <em>Today</em> host was every inch the proud dad as he shared a carousel of pictures to Instagram to celebrate Willow's big day. </p> <p>“Happy birthday to our 18 year old goddess. I'm so proud of you. I will love you forever. "40 years ago today": Alan Alda celebrates MASH milestone

<p>Alan Alda has celebrated the 40th anniversary of the iconic <em>M*A*S*H</em> (<em>MASH</em>) season finale. </p> <p>The series, which ran on CBS from 1972 to 1983, totalled an impressive 11 seasons with 251 episodes - all of which Alan Alda appeared in as the memorable Benjamin Franklin 'Hawkeye' Pierce. However, his credits weren’t limited to just acting, with Alda dabbling in some crew work during his time on the show. </p> <p>And it was Alda himself who wrote and directed the series finale, titled ‘Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen’. The episode ran for two-and-a-half hours, set a ratings record that many consider to be near impossible to beat, and reportedly still holds the title of being the most watched scripted television show episode of all time. In the US alone, over 60% of households tuned in to see the lives of the <em>MASH</em> unit change at the end of the Korean War. </p> <p>Now, 40 years after the episode went to air, Alda has looked back on the milestone, taking to Twitter to celebrate. Chrissie Swan's impressive milestone after shedding 90kg

<p>Chrissie Swan has taken to social media to share her impressive sobriety milestone.</p> <p>Having gone over 600 days without alcohol, the TV and radio host revealed it’s been a year and eight months since she gave up the booze in a bid to ease her anxiety.</p> <p>Since giving up alcohol, Chrissie has completely transformed both her lifestyle and health, down 90kg by simply picking up healthy habits – which include daily walks and changing her food choices.</p> <p>“Seem to be getting a lot of messages checking on whether I’ve taken up booze again”, she wrote on Instagram. “I haven’t! 643 since my last tipple! Thanks for asking!” She added.</p> <p>Speaking on The Project in October of 2021, she said she was reliant on alcohol to deal with the stress of the Covid lockdowns.</p> <p>Giving up drinking “was a decision I made for myself after giving it a fair nudge in the first lockdown last year”, she said at the time.</p> <p>Chrissie has <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/entertainment/tv/chrissie-swan-s-amazing-lockdown-transformation" target="_blank" rel="noopener">drastically transformed her physique</a> over the last year, citing a new diet, daily walks and sobriety as the secret behind it all.</p> <p>She briefly touched on her weight loss in an interview with The Australian Women's Weekly earlier in the year, saying the lifestyle changes she'd made over the last year had improved her life in so many ways.</p> <p><em>Image: Instagram</em></p>

Meghan Markle shares major milestone for Lilibet

<p>Meghan Markle has shared her daughter Lilibet's latest milestone in the most recent episode of the <em>Archetypes</em> podcast. </p> <p>Speaking with actress Pamela Adlon, the Duchess of Sussex said her days have become "more chaotic" ever since one-year-old Liliet started walking. </p> <p>"Lili has just started walking!" she said proudly. </p> <p>"She's a year and a couple of months old and Archie is just over three years old," Meghan said.</p> <p>"Oh, I'm in the thick of it, toddling."</p> <p>She went on to explain how mornings in the Sussex home are always a "rush", but she relishes in the madness of it all and insists on making breakfast each morning. </p> <p>"I'm sure it'll only get more chaotic as they get older," she said.</p> <p>"For me, it's, you know, both monitors on for the kids to hear them. Always up with Lili, get her downstairs, then a half hour later, Archie's up."</p> <p>"I start doing his lunchbox right before he's up while I have her, getting her a little nibble. My husband's helping me get him downstairs."</p> <p> </p> <p>"I make breakfast for all three of them. It's very important to me. I love doing it - to me, it just feels like the greatest way to start the morning."</p> <p>The Duchess of Sussex admitted it can feel like a "whirlwind" as she feeds their three dogs – Guy, Pula and Mia – and gets Archie off to school but praises Prince Harry for being a "partner" in parenting.</p> <p>As Meghan and her guest spoke about the pressures of motherhood, she said becoming a mother changed her outlook on everything, and how she wants to be a strong role model for her kids.</p> <p>"I first just had Archie, now I'm a mum of a daughter," she said while speaking to Adlon.</p> <p>"And whether I thought it was going to happen or not, it did. I see the world differently through how she is going to see the world and how she is going to look at certain women as role models.</p> <p>"And when I look at a lot of the women that I'm speaking to on this show, you included, I want her to understand that it is not just a box you have to fit into, but you get to be a full-fledged, interesting, curious, kind, strong, all the things, human being.
