Samantha Murphy's heartbroken father has spoken out following the news of a man being arrested in connection with her disappearance. The 51-year-old mother from Ballarat was last seen on February 4th when she left her home for her daily morning run. Now, over a month since she was last seen, a 22-year-old man has been <a href="https://oversixty.com.au/finance/legal/man-arrested-in-search-for-samantha-murphy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">arrested</a> in connection with her disappearance. Since the news broke of the man's arrest, Murphy's father, John 'Pud' Robson told <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13166853/samantha-murphy-arrest.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Daily Mail Australia</a> that the arrest had taken the family by surprise. Robson, in his 80s, shared that he and his family found out about the arrest when it was first reported by the media. "My wife just texted me to say that it had been on the radio," he said. "We haven't been told and evidently Michael [Samantha's husband] hasn't been told either." Mr Robson said he knew nothing about the individual arrested by detectives, and had yet to be contacted by investigators about the arrest. "We haven't heard a thing unfortunately," he said on Thursday morning. "All my wife said is she heard it on Triple M [radio] that they'd arrested some bloke and that no charges have been laid yet." Mr Robson said he had no idea of any alleged links between the 22-year-old man arrested and his daughter, saying, "I haven't got the faintest, mate. Not in that age range. Missing Persons Squad detectives have detained the 22-year-old man at his home in Ballarat shortly after 6am on Wednesday. “He remains in custody, however no charges have been laid at this time,” Victoria Police said in a statement. The mum was last seen leaving her home at around 7am on Sunday, February 4, to go for her usual morning run. Police officer arrested amid search for missing men

Former Network Ten presenter 26-year-old Jesse Baird and his boyfriend 29-year-old Luke Davies were last seen on Monday, with police launching an extensive investigation into their disappearance. On Thursday, officers called for Constable Beau Lamarre to come forward as part of the investigation, believing he could hold valuable information. Now, on Friday morning, the celebrity blogger turned police officer presented at Bondi Police Station where he was arrested. The man was then taken to Waverley Police Station where he is assisting with inquiries, police said. During a press conference on Friday afternoon, a lead investigator confirmed the young officer has been charged with two counts of murder, while adding the families of the young men have been told the investigation is being treated as a homicide. Arrests have been made after Kelvin Kiptum's father claimed that four men had attended his home looking for the Kenyan superstar before his death. Kenyan police have arrested four unidentified men after Kiptum's father, Samson Cheruiyot, called for an investigation into a visit that he said occurred just before the accident. "The four were taken to Elgeyo Marakwet for further investigations," Keiyo South Sub County commandant Abdullahi Dahir said. "They all come from Uasin Gishu County." Kiptum's devastated father broke down as he spoke about the death of his own child. "There are people who came home a while back who were looking for Kiptum, but they refused to identify themselves," Cheruiyot recalled. "I asked them to provide identification, but they opted to leave. It was a group of four people." He also recalled the moment he found out about his son's death. Tourist arrested for disgusting act at sacred UNESCO World Heritage Site

A tourist has been arrested after he committed this disgusting act on top of the Leshan Giant Buddha, a sacred UNESCO World Heritage Site in China. The man allegedly found a blind spot away from CCTV cameras, climbed over the security fence and on top of the statue. Once he reached the top of the monuments head, he proceeded to pull down his pants and urinate in front of horrified visitors who filmed the act. Security guards quickly removed the unidentified man and handed him over to police, after being informed of his actions. It is reported that the man was taken to a nearby hospital for psychiatric evaluation. The UNESCO World Heritage Site itself is a 71-metre-tall monument, which is considered to be the largest and tallest stone Buddha statue in the world. The Leshan Giant Buddha monument is located in the Sichuan Province of China, and was carved out of a cliff face between 713 and 803 AD. The statue and surrounding Mount Emei Scenic Area have been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. This act is one of many incidences of tourists behaving badly across the world. Teen arrested over alleged stabbing of grandmother

A 15-year-old boy has handed himself in amid the investigation into the alleged murder of Vyleen White, who was <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/health/caring/grandmother-fatally-stabbed-in-front-of-granddaughter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fatally stabbed</a> in front of her six-year-old granddaughter while on a grocery run in Ipswich. The boy, who was allegedly one of four males shown in CCTV footage released by police, has not been charged in relation to the 70-year-old’s death. Instead, he was charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle for allegedly stealing the car used by the attackers to flee Redbank Plains Shopping Village on Saturday evening. The boy handed himself into Ipswich Police Station at around 9.30pm on Sunday, and is due to appear at Ipswich Children’s Court on Monday. The 2009 Hyundai Getz the boys used to escape was found in Springfield Lakes on Sunday morning and is being forensically examined. The other four males have not yet been found. White had just finished grocery shopping with her six-year-old granddaughter at Redbank Plains when she was stabbed in the chest in the centre’s underground carpark at about 6pm on Saturday. The young girl was unharmed but left traumatised after witnessing the violent incident, and was reportedly screaming and crying for help. White died at the scene a short time later, after attempts to revive her failed. While police are still looking for the other attackers, Detective Acting Superintendent Heath McQueen said one man was responsible for the alleged murder. “There is still one person involved in the attack,” he told a media conference on Sunday, and said that robbery was the motive. They are appealing for anyone who might have seen the car between 6pm and 7pm on Saturday to contact them. “It’s a cowardly crime like I’ve not seen in my time as a detective,” McQueen said. “This is a (alleged) murder of a 70-year-old grandmother in front of her six-year-old granddaughter. “Now is not the time to remain tight-lipped. Major update in tragic death of young Melbourne doctor

The 16-year-old boys allegedly broke into the home of 33-year-old Dr Ash Gordon on Saturday, when the doctor then pursued the intruders after they fled the house. The teens then became violent, allegedly stabbing Dr Gordon several times and leaving him to die a kilometre from his home. As his heartbroken family continue to grieve their loss, homicide detectives confirmed that the two 16-year-olds have been charged with murder, aggravated burglary and theft and will face a children’s court at a later date. Superintendent Janet Stevenson said police worked “tirelessly” to “apprehend those responsible for his tragedy”. “We know that Ash’s family and loved ones are grieving. This arrest will not take away the tragedy of this dreadful situation, but we hope that it will alleviate some of their distress,” she said. “We will continue to provide all the support they require during this difficult time.” Tributes have poured in for the young doctor, with his sister Natalie describing the 33-year-old as her “world”. “I’m his older sister, but I looked up to him for so much, as did our other siblings. He’s the youngest, but we all looked up to him. Mum and dad would ring him for advice,” she said. “He was just so sure of himself. Teenager arrested after shoving elderly man off pier

A teenager has been arrested after a disgraceful assault on an elderly man, which saw the teen push the man off a pier and into the water. The 79-year-old was walking along the pier at Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula on Sunday night, when he was targeted by a group of three teenagers. Filming the assault, the teenagers laughed as one boy approached the elderly man and shoved him off the pier and into the water below. The teens ran away laughing, and later uploaded the footage of the incident to social media. Mornington Peninsula MP, Chris Crewther slammed the actions of the group and told the Today show that the man was not a strong swimmer and could have drowned if it wasn't for two bystanders who jumped into the water to save him. "It is disgraceful, appalling and cowardly behaviour," he said. "I know that this man is highly shaken and traumatised by the event and fortunately, I understand he wasn't seriously injured, but it would take a while to recover from this mentally and emotionally." A 14-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with reckless endangerment and unlawful assault over the incident. Crewther confirmed the other two boys involved in the attack are known to police, given that the footage of the shoving was uploaded to their personal social media accounts. "Obviously they were wanting some notoriety and to show their exploits on social media, which has actually got them in trouble now because they've identified themselves," he said. "The Police know who they are and are asking the victim to come forward to give a statement so that these three can be charged to the fullest extent and hopefully they will be punished." Rob Dale "destroyed" after police shot dead pet dog

Rob Dale, who has previously starred in reality TV show Aussie Gold Hunters, was left heartbroken after his pet dog Monty was shot dead during an arrest in Perth's north-east. Police were making an arrest in Dale's house on Stratton Blvd at around 9:30am on Tuesday when the incident occurred. “While at the residence, a dog owned by another person approached and attacked the arrested suspect and a female police officer,” authorities said at the time. A male officer fired at Monty "to prevent further injury". Two men were arrested for aggravated home burglary and commit, stealing and trespassing, after a series of incidences that led police officers to Dale's home. Dale was not home at the time of the incident, and there is no suggestion that he was involved in any alleged crimes. The TV personality said that his nine-year-old French mastiff x Great Dane, was a much loved “member of the family," and he was only trying to protect the occupants of the house. “He was loyal and protective and he gave me a lot of comfort knowing that if anything was to happen ... my family would be safe with him,” Dale said. “This has destroyed my children and myself.” Dale described his pet as a “really soft-natured animal”, and was a "protector of the family”. “He was just fulfilling his duty in that house and that’s to protect the occupants, and it’s cost him his life,” Dale added. Groom faces serious jail time after $89 million "wedding of the century"

A groom whose viral $89 million wedding was dubbed the "wedding of the century" is now facing a possible life sentence in prison. Jacob LaGrone, 29, and wife, car dealership heiress Madelaine Brockway, took social media by storm last month after videos of their lavish, five-day wedding in France went viral on TikTok. The wedding which featured an overnight stay at the Palace of Versailles, rehearsal dinner at the Paris Opera House, and a performance by Maroon 5 at the Texan couple's reception, was nothing short of amazing. Now, instead of going on their honeymoon, the groom could be facing life in prison, after getting arrested for allegedly shooting at three police officers in an incident on March 14. The Nashville native was indicted eight months ago on three counts of aggravated assault on a public servant, which is a first-degree felony in Texas, that, if convicted, could see him face a sentence from less than five years to life in prison. According to city officials, officers responded to multiple disturbance calls about a gun being discharged at a home – and when the three officers arrived, "they were fired upon” by LaGrone. An indictment obtained by The Washington Post, said that LaGrone "did intentionally and knowingly threaten imminent bodily injury" to the officers and “did use or exhibit a deadly weapon during the commission of the assault, namely, a firearm”. The indictment did not specify where the incident took place, and no further details were given regarding the disturbance calls. The Dallas Morning News reported that the Tarrant County District Attorney offered LaGrone a plea deal of 25-years in jail . Husband arrested over murder of beloved Nonna

Frank Dimasi, 91 has been charged over the murder of his wife, Maria, 85, who was found dead inside the couple's home over the weekend. Maria was found with multiple stab wounds inside the couple's home in Findon, Adelaide, at around 11:20pm on Saturday. Frank was arrested at the scene and charged over the murder of his wife of over 50 years on Monday. He is currently under police guard at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, having suffered from self-inflicted and non-life threatening wounds, according to SA police. He is also reported to suffer from a "neurological disability". Maria was a beloved member of the Italian community in Adelaide. She was regarded as the "neighbourhood matriarch” and was well-known because of her love for cooking, including making meals for the vulnerable. She was heavily involved with the family's taxpayer-funded meal service, Nonna’s Cucina, that even Health Minister Mark Butler recognised her hard work and described her as "extremely generous". “Maria lit up the kitchen at Nonna’s Cucina,” he said. “She was always extremely generous and made sure no one ever left her company hungry. “Maria gave so much to her community and will be greatly missed by her loved ones and everyone who had the pleasure to meet her.” South Australia Premier Peter Malinauskas also paid tribute to the beloved great-grandmother and described the murder as "tragic". “On a personal level, Maria Dimasi was a very significant contributor to our state, particularly in the western suburbs’ Italian community,” said the premier. “Nonna’s Cucina, which will be very well-known to a lot of South Australians, did amazing work delivering meals to people that are vulnerable, particularly the elderly. "This is a good person who has lost their life in tragic circumstances.” The premier is currently facing increasing pressure to authorise a Royal Commission into domestic violence in the state, after five women have allegedly been killed at the hands of a partner since November 16, according to The Advertiser. The publication also reported that this is "the worst DV toll in Australia's history". In their first public statement issued through the police late Monday, the couple's family paid tribute to Maria, who they described as “loving mother to her four children, her 10 grandchildren and a great grandmother to 13”. “Maria had a caring nature and shared love and happiness to those around her,” they said in the statement obtained by The Advertiser. “Maria was the centre of our family, bringing us together to care for and support each other. Two men arrested after fleeing horror crash that killed teens

The terrible accident occurred when the car they were in collided with a tree and a power pole outside a residential property. The two boys were seated in the back of the vehicle, and the impact of the crash was devastating. One of the boys was ejected from the car on impact, while the other remained trapped by his seatbelt. Authorities suspect that speed was a contributing factor to the accident, highlighting the importance of safe driving practices, especially when minors are involved. As news of the incident spread, tributes began pouring in for the two young victims online. Following an extensive investigation and manhunt, the police arrested two men, aged 23 and 27, on Tuesday around 12:30pm. Both individuals were taken to Liverpool Hospital under police guard for assessment and treatment of injuries they allegedly sustained during the crash. While the legal process is in motion, the community is left to grapple with the immense loss of two young lives, taken too soon. The 27-year-old man has been charged with nine offences – two counts of aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death with a speed of 45 km over; two counts of dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous; two counts of failing to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death; never licensed person drive vehicle on road; cause bodily harm by misconduct; and negligent driving (occasioning death). No charges have yet been laid for the 23-year-old man. The grief-stricken families and friends of the victims, as well as the community at large, are rallying together to provide support and comfort during this devastating time. Erin Patterson arrested over fatal mushroom meal

Erin Patterson has been arrested at her home in Victoria over her potential involvement in the suspicious deaths of three people. In July, Gail and Don Patterson, the parents of Erin Patterson's ex-husband, and Gail Patterson's sister, Heather Wilkinson, died from mushroom poisoning after attending a lunch hosted by the 49-year-old woman. Heather's husband Ian Wilkinson also attended the lunch and was critically ill, but recovered. All four had shared a meal, understood to be a beef Wellington, allegedly cooked by Patterson. Patterson was arrested early on Thursday morning, with AFP conducting a search of her home shortly after her arrest with technology detector dogs in tow. Veteran crime journalist John Silvester, of <a href="https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/mushroom-cook-erin-patterson-arrested-over-fatal-lunch-20231102-p5egxu.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Age</a> newspaper, told Today Extra on Thursday that the dogs were a sophisticated police tool that can detect electronic devices. "These dogs are absolutely amazing and they can sniff out and have sniffed out a SIM card that was hidden in a bowl of garlic," he said. "They are there for a purpose. This is not speculation. They will be there looking for something like a mobile phone, a SIM card, or a memory disk." A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in northern England after what police describe as the "deliberate" felling of the iconic Sycamore Gap tree. The tree had stood next to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hadrian's Wall for nearly 200 years before it was tragically vandalised. Both locals and tourists have frequently stopped to capture a photo and appreciate the stunning tree ever since it gained fame for its appearance in Kevin Costner's 1991 film, Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves. Now, photographs from the scene on early Thursday showed that the tree had been cut off near the base of its trunk, and the locals are fuming. "The tree is a world-renowned landmark and the vandalism has caused understandable shock and anger throughout the local community and beyond," Northumbria Police said in a statement. "This is an incredibly sad day," they added. "The tree was iconic to the North East and enjoyed by so many who live in or who have visited this region." Alison Hawkins, was the first person to spot the damage while she was walking on the Hadrian's Wall path. "It was a proper shock. It's basically the iconic picture that everyone wants to see," she said. "You can forgive nature doing it but you can't forgive that." Shock twist in Stuart MacGill's kidnapping saga

In a shock twist Stuart MacGill has been charged with taking part in a huge cocaine deal, which police allege is related to his <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/news/news/stuart-macgill-kidnapped-and-threatened-at-gunpoint" target="_blank" rel="noopener">kidnapping</a>. MacGill was reportedly arrested by police from the Robbery and Serious Crime Squad on Tuesday, and has been released on bail, according to <a href="https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/subscribe/news/1/?sourceCode=DTWEB_WRE170_a_NEW&dest=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailytelegraph.com.au%2Ftruecrimeaustralia%2Fpolice-courts-nsw%2Fstuart-macgill-charged-over-300k-cocaine-deal%2Fnews-story%2Fe60e00693bf3cfa2a3287f6fb1c0e4aa&memtype=anonymous&mode=premium&v21=dynamic-high-control-score&V21spcbehaviour=append" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Telegraph</a>. Police allege that this was what led MacGill to be blamed, <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/news/news/strange-new-twist-in-stuart-macgill-s-kidnapping" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> kidnapped</a>, threatened at gunpoint, and beaten up before he was released in Belmore on April 2021. The kidnapping incident resulted in six men being arrested. Police had previously cleared MacGill from any illegal activity and publicly stated that MacGill was an "innocent victim", before further evidence was reportedly uncovered. MacGill had also given a number of <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/finance/legal/stuart-macgill-breaks-silence-on-kidnapping" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TV interviews</a> after the kidnapping, where he maintained his innocence and recalled the terrifying ordeal. “I was in a situation that’s foreign to me and I was physically and mentally intimidated. “I couldn’t have done anything differently, I don’t think," he previously said in an interview with Channel Nine's A Current Affair. Although the nature of the new information that police received cannot legally be revealed, the charge carries a potential maximum penalty of life in jail. FA Cup attendee arrested over "disgusting" Hillsborough shirt

A man has been arrested over the “disgusting” shirt he chose to wear while attending the FA Cup Final. The garment, which appeared to refer to the 97 fans who lost their lives in the 1989 Hillsborough disaster, saw 33-year-old James White face charges over “displaying threatening or abusive writing likely to cause harassment, alarm, or distress”. The shirt featured the number 97 in a large font on the back, with the text “Not Enough” sprawled above it. The 1989 tragedy occurred on April 15, when almost 100 people - consisting mostly of Liverpool supporters - were killed in a crowd crush at Hillsborough Stadium during an FA Cup Semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest. A further 766 people were injured. Widespread attention was first brought to the offensive shirt when one Twitter user called for the “absolute clown to be identified”, asking how “97 people dying” had become “fair game”. “Get this man’s face spread across social media ASAP,” another urged, “he needs to face repercussions.” His image quickly made the rounds, with hundreds calling him out for his insensitive actions, and consequently White was arrested during the match. Father of truck driver arrested for horror school bus crash speaks out

The truck driver who crashed into a bus, causing it to roll over with school children inside on May 16, is “very distressed” over the incident, his father revealed. "He's going to take a while to get over this,” renowned horse trainer Robert Gleeson told A Current Affair of his truck driver son Jamie Gleeson. "He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and unfortunately there was a bus there as well," Robert said. Police reported 49-year-old Jamie was driving dangerously when he rear-ended the bus carrying 45 students from Exford Primary School, leaving some with amputated limbs. Jamie is a father of two boys aged 17 and 18. He’s been driving trucks for 20 years and was just minutes away from home when he told police he saw the “sun flicker” through the trees before the crash. The court hearing on May 18 heard Jamie has no criminal history and that initial test results ruled out him being drunk or on drugs. He remained on the scene and called triple zero. "He got out and helped take the kids out of the bus," Robert said. "Jamie's nature is a very soft person. He cares about people very much and that was his natural reaction.” Jamie’s family said he’s been a respected volunteer at the Country Fire Authority (CFA) for about 15 years and during that time, he has witnessed all kinds of incidents just like the tragic crash. His father said the horror incident is not something that will go away for Jamie overnight, and all they can do as a family is give him support as things “take their course”. "He'll have to live with it for the rest of his life but hopefully these kids in the bus and the families can repair," Robert said. Robert said his son is heartbroken and unable to speak publicly due to the court case. "He's very distraught. He's more distressed about the fact there's children involved and families involved," Robert said. "It's one of those distressing things that's happened and we can't undo that and unfortunately a lot of people will be affected by this with their children.” Jamie is one of two drivers for trucking company L&J Cartage. He has been prohibited from driving trucks while on bail. The bus driver involved in the crash has now returned home. "It'll take him some time to work through and we'll support him," Christian's Buses director Campbell Christian said. Robert said his family are thinking of everyone involved. "Our heart goes out to the families of these children," he said. The daughter of the Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger has been arrested in Spain following a hostile altercation with police. Jade Jagger, 51, has being accused of going on a drunken tirade and allegedly assaulting several national police officers in Ibiza, Spain, according to reports by <a href="https://pagesix.com/2023/05/18/mick-jaggers-daughter-jade-arrested-for-assaulting-police-report/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Page Six</a>. The reports claim that Jagger became "very aggressive and violent" when police were called to help mediate an altercation she was involved in at a restaurant. Jade and one of her friends involved in the confrontation were reportedly under the influence of alcohol or "some type of substance". Before the police were called, the British jewellery designer had a disagreement with restaurant staff, while her male companion began allegedly “shouting, threatening and insulting” them. The police then arrived at the restaurant to defuse the situation, where Jade's friend "pounced" on the officers, while Jade was allegedly heard shouting “stupid police” and other rude remarks. It is unclear if Jade remains in police custody, but a local Spanish outlet states she is expected to be “brought to justice” at some point on Friday. Jade is one of Mick’s eight children. She is his only child with ex-wife Bianca Jagger.
