"Miraculous rescue": Renter saves stray dog trapped underground

An American renter was minding his own business at his rental home in Longview, Texas when he heard faint barking.

The man, who chose to remain anonymous, initially thought the barking was coming from outside, but soon realised that it was coming from below his floorboards.

Animal control officer Bobby Jumper was called to the scene and "was very shocked" to find a dog trapped at the bottom of an almost four-metre-deep well underneath the house.

The renter did not know there was a well under the house.

"I've been doing this for over seven years and that's the first time I've ran into something like this," the animal control officer told the Washington Post.

Jumper immediately called in back up from the local fire brigade, who built a makeshift sling to pull the stray dog out from safety.

"It took multiple people and a lot of different tools and equipment," he said.

The rescue took three hours and the team did consider ripping up the floorboards, but managed to find a way into the house without damaging it.

Rescuers said the stray pup, a Basset hound mix, had been trapped for days without food or water, but luckily came out unscathed.

The pup was taken to the Longview Animal Care and Adoption Centre and given the name Timmy, after the character known to fall down the well on the TV show Lassie.

Timmy has since been adopted by a loving family, with the adoption centre sharing the "rescue story of a lifetime" on Facebook.

"We witnessed a heartwarming tale of bravery and kindness that we just had to share," they wrote.

"Thanks to the quick thinking and heroic efforts of our local firefighters and animal control team, the dog was safely brought to the surface, shaken but unharmed!"

"Thank you to everyone who played a part in this miraculous rescue," the post continued.

"It's a true reminder of the incredible bond between humans and animals and how a community comes together in times of need!"

Images: Facebook

Bunnings workers find deadly snake in gardening aisle

Bunnings workers were stunned to find a tiger snake among the flower pots in the gardening section of the hardware store's Goulburn branch in NSW.

Tiger snakes are one of the most venomous snakes in the nation and the "vibrant orange" reptile was trapped in a large pot, before snake catcher Ray McGibbon was called to relocate it.

In an interview with Yahoo News, McGibbon said he was stunned by the snake's markings which were "not typical of tiger snakes".

"It was very orange and vibrant," he said.

"Cool climate reptiles are usually darker colours... it's like us wearing dark clothing in a cooler climate, it will attract the heat faster.

"If you look at Queensland in comparison, the reptiles up there are brighter in colour because of the hotter climate."

He also doesn't recommend placing a pot over a reptile, and said the best course of action would be to keep your distance, especially if it's venomous.

Luckily, the snake was placid and easy to relocate, with McGibbon releasing it in nearby bushland.

Tiger snakes account for an estimated 17 per cent of snake bites in Australia with four known deaths recorded, according to Australia Wide First Aid.

"It's not really common to find one in Bunnings, they just randomly pop up every now and then. It was a warm day so it will have come inside to sit on the cool concrete. They're cold-bloodied but they're like us, if they're too hot they'll retreat for something cool," McGibbon added.

Images: Facebook

Princess Diana's former lover opens up in rare interview

Army Major James Hewitt, who had a five-year affair with the late Princess Diana from 1986, has spoken about the royal in a rare television interview with Good Morning Britain on Tuesday.

When asked about whether he thinks Diana may have been able to reunite her sons, who have barely spoken in five years, he replied: "I think any mother would be worried and concerned about such a rift, as you put it."

"And she'd do her best to try and get them together."

Major Hewitt, who now spends his time doing aid work in Ukraine, revealed that the last time he had spoken to the late Princess was "just after" her BBC Panorama interview with Martin Bashir in November 1995, during which she admitted to their affair.

He described the conversation as "distant" and admitted that the interview did "create problems" for him from which he was "trying to move on".

After the affair was revealed, Major Hewitt was labelled as a "love rat" by the tabloid media and found his reputation in ruins.

He also said that the interview was "very distressing" for the late Princess, as someone she had trusted had used their connection to make money.

"It was a stitch-up job," he said of the Panorama interview.

"It was appalling of Bashir to [have] inveigled, lied to her, criminal activity, absolutely appalling."

"As I've said, I hate bullies and bullying and arrogant people and I think it's appalling."

Major Hewitt, who was Diana's riding instructor at the time, has previously denied claiming to have been a "father figure" to the princes but has said that he "played with them, swam with them, taught them to ride".

The Duke of Sussex had also addressed the rumours that Major Hewitt was his biological father in his memoir Spare, saying that he felt the rumours were designed to turn him into a "laughing stock".

"One cause of the rumour was Major Hewitt's red hair, but another was sadism," he wrote in his memoir.

Image: Ken McKay/ITV/ Shutterstock Editorial

Jamie Oliver opens up on former feud with Gordon Ramsay

Jamie Oliver has opened up about his former feud with Gordon Ramsay on The Louis Theroux Podcast.

The 49-year-old told Theroux that after years of exchanges with the Hell's Kitchen star, their wives Jools Oliver and Tana Ramsay were the ones who stepped in an encouraged them to patch things up.

"I was a target [for] probably 10 years, I think, it was regular," Oliver said of Ramsay.

"I generally used to bite [back] once a year, and then that used to set him off for another year ... I think it kind of generated the noise, it was serving its purpose for him - I mean, I'd have to ask Gordon what it was all about.

"Cause we never fell out, we got on for the first couple of years, and then - as he did more TV - it just went on and on and on, and it was quite, it was painful but in the end it was Jools and his wife Tana that sorted it out."

Oliver revealed that despite their former feud, his kids are friends with Ramsay's children.

"It was like, 'come on dads, grow up' so I think that both of us got a telling off, and then we went to have a drink and put it all to rest and let bygones be bygones," he said.

When Oliver's Italian chain went under, Ramsay was "very supportive" and "very kind", even sending him messages of encouragement.

Oliver also opened up on his feud with Marco Pierre White, and said he was "destroyed" to hear his "hero" slam him in the press and didn't know what sparked it as they never worked together.

"He doesn't like me at all, still doesn't," he said, but added "that's fine, I don't need anything from him".

"I still think he was like a game changer, he was still my hero for that period of my life but that's life, and it's not just Marco, it's lots of people," Oliver said.

Image: Alan Davidson/ Shutterstock Editorial

Wild claim about Hugh Jackman romance

Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster have confirmed their relationship earlier this month, and as the couple ramp up their public appearances together, it has been reported that prior to getting together, they took their respective spouses on double dates.

Jackman and Foster grew closer while starring together in the Broadway musical The Music Man from December 2021 until January 2023.

Now, an insider has revealed to the Daily Mail that Jackman and his ex-wife, Deborra-lee Furness, would enjoy date nights together with Foster and her ex-husband, Ted Griffin.

The source also said that after every performance of their show the pair would share an "uncomfortably" long embrace in front of everyone.

“It was odd,” they continued. “In a way it was uncomfortable. As the entire cast is trying to get to their dressing rooms upstairs, we all had to pass the two of them hugging. They didn’t even hide it! It was a long embrace … and it was weird.”

“I thought she was just a needy actress,” they added.

“That’s the way it appeared to me - the needy actress needed the hug from the big superman.”

This comes after the couple were recently spotted holding hands for a lowkey outing in new pap photos.

In one snap, Jackman appeared to be looking at the cameras while laughing, leading some to believe the pair called the press on themselves.

"They need to stop calling the press on themselves," one user wrote on Instagram.

"Looking right at the camera lol," another said, while a third simply added, "Disappointing."

"Please, stop calling the paparazzi. This is so ridiculous," someone else said.

"This screams closeted PR stunt," another added.

Others thought the pair looked happy, with one saying "they make a beautiful couple".

Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness announced their separation after 27 years of marriage in September 2023, and a little over a year later, Sutton filed for divorce from husband Ted Griffin after 10 years of marriage.

It was recently reported that the Wolverine actor and Furness are struggling to finalise their divorce, as they didn't have a prenup in place, with rumours that the split may get "messy" as they attempt to divide their massive fortune.

Image: SplashNews.com/ Shutterstock Editorial

She was told it wasn’t true, and that they were nothing more than close friends who worked together.

“But something in her heart told her that this was not true.

“She trusted her intuition and her intuition was right. She finally feels at ease after getting confirmation that her fears and suspicions were warranted.

“She can now fully close this chapter and move on.”

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by People Magazine (@people)

Jackman and Furness announced their split in September 2023, after 27 years of marriage.

On October 22 2024, Foster filed for "uncontested divorce" from her screenwriter husband Ted Griffin.

“They are 100 per cent together and are in love and want to spend the rest of their lives together,” a source previously told Page Six of Jackman and Foster's relationship.

The pair have starred alongside each other in the Broadway show The Music Man from 2022 to 2023.

Image: Ron Adar / M10s/ Shutterstock Editorial

Paralympian Dylan Alcott's unexpected career choice

Dylan Alcott has revealed his next career move after retiring from professional wheelchair tennis in 2021.

Since his retirement, the 34-year-old Aussie Paralympian has taken on a commentating role and appeared at the 2024 Paris Olympics, but now he has confirmed a new career move that is a big step away from sports.

Alcott told Daily Mail Australia that he wants to pursue a career in acting.

After taking on his first ever acting role as Marcus in Stan's series Bump, he explained that he wants to get more roles in the film industry.

"I'd been on set before as an athlete but not as an actor and I bl**dy loved it, " he told the Daily Mail.

"It was a good test to me to see if I loved being on a set every day, and I really did so hopefully I'll have more opportunities soon."

Alcott explained that he even took acting lessons and classes, and even hired a coach to make sure he was up to the standard he needed to be.

"I didn't want to be that famous guy that just goes 'I can act', I've done lessons and classes and I've got an acting coach," he told the publication.

"I tried to do the best that I can and everyone was really accommodating."

Alcott, who starred in the fourth season of the show alongside Claudia Karvan and Angus Sampson, recalled how he was able to keep up with his co-stars, despite it being his first time acting.

"The biggest challenge was everyone is a really, really good actor and I was like ''what am I doing?'' when I first got there," he recalled.

"Then I realised that everyone was so accommodating but I could also hold my own."

The Paralympian was fully involved in his role and even created some of his character's jokes, and even does his own stunts.

"Often, if you're an able-bodied person writing a disabled character, you're not sure what you can and can't say, but I was like ''no let's push it'' and it was so cool," he said.

He added that he was proud to be able to provide positive disability representation on screen, which was something he rarely saw growing up.

"[Acting is] something I've wanted to do since I was a kid, I really struggled with disability representation on screen," he shared.

"Whenever it was, it was always super negative and sad and not people being themselves. So that's why I started doing acting and when Claudia and Kelsey [Munro] called me with a role, I couldn't believe it!"

Alcott will be returning to screens as Marcus in the fifth and final season of Bump on Boxing Day.

Image: Allison Voight/ Shutterstock Editorial

Nostradamus' 2025 predictions revealed

Nostradamus a 16th-century French Astrologer known as the "prophet of doom" has some wild predictions for the upcoming year.

The astrologer has been credited with foretelling the Great Fire of London, Hitler’s rise to power, the September 11 attacks, the Covid-19 pandemic, and last year’s New Year’s Day earthquake.

His predictions were published in his book “Les Prophéties” in 1555

Last year, the astrologer was credited for predicting the powerful earthquake that rocked Japan on New Year's.

A few of his other predictions for 2024 included the abdication of King Charles, war with China, a new pope, and the world getting closer to a climate apocalypse.

Now, his predictions for 2025 have been revealed with one of them being the potential end to the Ukraine conflict.

He wrote: "Through long war all the army exhausted,so that they do not find money for the soldiers; instead of gold or silver, they will come to coin leather, Gallic brass, and the crescent sign of the Moon."

The astrologer predicted that financial ruin and exhausted resources could spell the end of an ongoing armed conflict, which many of his followers assumed is a reference to Russia and Ukraine.

However, he wrote that England will be beset by “cruel wars” and will face an “ancient plague” that will be “worse than enemies.”

He also wrote: "Garden of the world near the new city, In the path of the hollow mountains: It will be seized and plunged into the Tub, Forced to drink waters poisoned by sulphur."

Some believe the "garden of the world" refers to the Amazon forest, with plunging into a tub and sipping sulphur implying that there will be floods and volcanic activity.

While most of his predictions seem bleak, more often than not they miss the mark.

Image: Shutterstock

A 102-year-old woman has successfully fulfilled her bucket list dream of visiting all seven continents with the help of two Youtubers.

Dorothy Smith, who lives in a retirement home in San Francisco, had travelled all over the world except Australia.

When the guys behind the YouTube channel Yes Theory, Staffan Taylor and Ammar Kandil heard about this, they were determined to make her dream come true.

The two men, who met her in the retirement village, asked her "‘is there anything on your bucket list you haven’t ticked off yet?’ and she said, ‘I’ve been to six continents but I’ve never been to Australia,’” Yes Theory filmmaker Staffan Taylor explained.

The centenarian recalled how she received a note from them.

“He gave me this little piece of paper that said something about ‘dreams come true’,” Dorothy told Sunrise on Tuesday.

“I showed it to a friend, and they said, ‘look, there is no signature, there is no telephone number, there is no address — it’s fake’,” she added.

But it wasn't a scam and with the help of Destination NSW and Qantas, the Youtubers made her dream come true, and shared a clip of her experience online.

She chose Sydney as her Aussie destination because of the Opera House, which she is twice the age of.

“This is like Disneyland for grown ups,” she joked while visiting the iconic landmark.

She also visited visited Wild Life Sydney Zoo to see some koalas and kangaroos, the Botanic Gardens, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and went for a cruise on the harbour.

She described Aussies as “charming” and complimented the food, scenery and weather.

“These two gentlemen have been delightful, and there is a whole crew, and each one is as nice as the other, and they have been around this town very well,” she told Sunrise.

“It’s just beautiful — I’ve seen things like the zoo and the real animals.

“It is much more metropolitan (than I would have thought), and the people are charming,” she added.

The centenarian said it is "never too late" for a new adventure, saying: “You can either rust out or wear out and I’m trying to wear out rather than rust out."

Yes Theory co-founder Ammar Kandil who went on the trip with Dorothy and her daughter, said he was in awe of the centenarian's curiosity during the trip and had been inspired by her.

“One of the cornerstones of the experiences in our videos is actually whenever we go somewhere, we always try to ask the elders and get a lot of the wisdom out of them from their life experiences,” he said.

“Staffan (and I) had the opportunity to double down and do a full episode on elders, only to meet the most epic one of all (Dorothy) — it doesn’t get better.

“(As soon as we heard) we just went for it, and it was a no-brainer — as soon as she said she hadn’t been to Australia, we thought God bless her soul.

“She is so powerful and still moves, and if anyone can go to Australia at 102 years old, it is Dorothy.”

“Even at 102 years old she is still appreciating everything she is seeing,” he added.

Images: Yes Theory/ Youtube
