Kochie sledged over his salary live on-air

Kochie has jokingly threatened to never have a guest on the breakfast show again after being ‘sledged’ over his salary.

The Sunrise co-host was speaking to Carsales Editor-in-Chief Mike Sinclair on Thursday morning when the funny moment went down.

The @KiaAustralia Sportage has been named 2022's best mid-size SUV by @carsales 🚙 pic.twitter.com/h4gKr09Av3

— Sunrise (@sunriseon7) May 26, 2022

Sinclair were showcasing a Kia Sportage after the vehicle was named the car website’s best mid-size SUV for 2022, when he took a crack at the well paid tv presenter.

“What are they asking for it?,” Kochie asked, before receiving the eyebrow-raising response.

“The Sportage range starts just under $40,000 and this one, which is the top of the range called the GT Line, this one is I think about $53,000.

“So Kochie, I think somebody of your abilities, with your inflated pay packet, I’m sure you could afford it,” he teased.

The stunned Sunrise star responded by firing back: “Oh, OK mate. I prefer the MG actually, that’s way better value.”

‘What? He was sledging me, so I’m going to sledge him back,” he told colleagues Natalie Barr and Mark Beretta as they burst into laughter.

Images: Sunrise

"I won't cop sledging on Australia": ScoMo hits back

After French president Emmanuel Macron called Scott Morrison a liar, the Prime Minister has hit back.

While in Glasgow for the COP26 Climate Change conference, ScoMo told reporters that he would not "cop slurs" about the integrity of Australia, and that he had no regrets about his seemingly quick decision to back out of a $90 billion submarine contract with France.

Macron accused the Prime Minister of lying by not revealing he was in talks with the UK and the US over the acquisition of nuclear submarines before he pulled out of the French deal.

While at the G20 summit in Rome, Macron made the comment to Australian reporters, after several weeks to escalating diplomatic tensions between Australia and France.

“I have a lot of respect and a lot of friendship for (Australian) people,” he said.

“I just say when we have respect, you have to be true and you have to behave in line and consistently with this value."

When asked if he thought Mr Morrison had lied to him, he said: “I don’t think, I know”.

In a fiery response, Scott Morrison said he didn't wish to "personalise the spat", but would not accept “statements questioning Australia’s integrity”.

“There’s no element of that from my perspective. I must say that I think the statements that were made questioning Australia’s integrity and the slurs that have been placed on Australia, not me, I’ve got broad shoulders. I can deal with that."

“But those slurs, I’m not going to cop sledging at Australia. I’m not going to cop that on behalf of Australians."

“I can deal with whatever people throw at me. But Australia has a proud record when it comes to our defence capability. That’s why we will be building these. We’ll be building others. And Australia’s service record, I think needs no elaboration. And so that’s where we are.”

He went on to say that the conventional diesel submarines that would have been built under the French deal would not have met Australia's needs.

“I have to put Australia’s interests before any interests that involved potentially offending others,” he said.

Despite being at the Climate Change conference when Scott Morrison gave the interview, he dedicated all of his air time to responding to Macron, and no mention of Australia's climate change policy.

Bob Geldof sledges Keith Urban on stage at ARIA Awards

Last night, the 2018 ARIA Awards closed with two icons, Bob Geldof and Keith Urban, appearing on stage to present the final award.

Prior to revealing the winner for the ‘Song of the Year’ award, Urban reminded the Boomtown Rats rocker that he hosted the awards show back in 1991.

However, the musician seemed unable to recall the experience.

Geldof answered: “Apparently I did, but…”

Not missing a beat, Urban asked: “Memorable experience?”

Bob then said: “It was at a time when you don’t remember these sort of things. They come and go.”

“Like tonight?” Urban asked.

“Judging by your performance, yes,” Geldof responded.

The exchange drew gasps from audience members as some attendees looked visibly shocked.

However, Urban jumped in, saying: “I haven’t even played yet! It is a tough room, it is a tough room.”

The pair continued on stage, discussing why Geldof was present at the awards show.

“I was in town to do some stuff. I have a new record I was playing to the record company, I’m going to South Africa tomorrow. You called me and begged me to help you out tonight,” he said.

Geldof then transitioned into the nominees for the award, admitting that he was ad libbing because he couldn’t read the autocue.

“There’s very few people who make it to the top of the game and tonight there’s — again, it is down to three or four or five people who get to have the Song of the Year, the song better than any other song ever this year, the song that from all over the world gets to win this thing. I can’t read the stuff, so I’m making this up, but it sounds f**king good to me,” he shrugged.

Eventually, the rocker was able to announce Five Seconds of Summer as the winner for their song Young Blood.

Viewers were quick to comment on the bizarre banter, with some describing it as “cringey”.

One user wrote: “Is Bob Geldof taking the piss? What did I just channel surf to?”

Another commented: “So Bob Geldof is an EXTREMELY loose unit and I think the people who booked him secretly knew this.”

This #arias hosting shade from FIFO celebrities is cringey. David Warner shares sweet tribute to wife Candice

She’s become the unwitting victim of a vicious sledge from South African cricket fans, but Aussie cricketer David Warner’s wife Candice isn’t letting it get to her.

Taking to Instagram yesterday, David shared a photo collage to celebrate Candice’s 33rd birthday, praising his wife of three years as a “sweet, caring, loving mother and wife”.

A post shared by David Warner (@davidwarner31) on Mar 12, 2018 at 12:35pm PDT

“Happy birthday to the lady of my life,” he wrote. “May your day be a great one filled with happiness and joy. Can’t wait to spend the day with you.”

The heartfelt tribute comes just days after David was caught on camera losing his temper at Proteas wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock while on his way to the dressing room during the first Test in Durban.

It was later revealed that David was reacting to a personal comment de Kock had made about Candice. In the days that followed, the couple were sledged by South African cricket fans over Candice’s 2007 “toilet tryst” with rugby player Sonny Bill Williams, despite the incident occurring years before David had even met the ironwoman.

Former Aussie netball captain Liz Ellis launched an emotional attack on South African fans after they were photographed wearing Sonny Bill Williams masks, telling Channel Nine’s Sports Sunday program the abuse was “abhorrent”.

“Everyone is focusing on the sledging,” she said. “What I think is the controversy is that 40 years after the sexual revolution ... 40 years after that in the middle of the #MeToo movement, in the week of International Women’s Day, a player’s wife is being dragged through the mud because they’re attempting to shame her for her past.

“My problem is we focus so hard on the sledging we haven’t focused on the bigger issue. We haven’t focused on the issue of what is being said about Candice Warner has nothing to do with the game.”

David admitted his reaction to de Kock’s comment was “probably out of line”, but that he’ll “always stick up for my family”.

“I responded emotionally and regretted the way I played out,” he said.

Liz Ellis slams South African cricket fans for “abhorrent” sledge

Australian netball great Liz Ellis has launched a scathing attack on South African fans who mockingly shamed David Warner’s wife Candice during the second cricket Test in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

After footage of altercation between Warner and South African wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock in the stairwell on the way to the dressing room during the first Test in Durban, it was revealed Warner was reacting to a personal sledge about his wife.

Although both players were charged with bringing the game into disrepute, the fallout continued in the second Test when some fans in the stadium wore masks of All Blacks star Sonny Bill Williams – a reference to Candice’s drunken sexual encounter with Williams in the bathroom of a Sydney pub in 2007.

Cricket South Africa was forced to apologise after two of its officials were photographed posing with fans who were wearing the Williams masks.

Speaking on Channel Nine’s Sports Sunday program, Ellis, a regular panellist, said the incident had been made so much worse because it was during the very week the world celebrated International Women’s Day.

The former Australian netball captain slapped down the shameful stunt, saying it was about shaming women with out-of-date beliefs that have no place in sport or society today.

“Everyone is focusing on the sledging. What I think is the controversy is that 40 years after the sexual revolution ... 40 years after that in the middle of the #MeToo movement, in the week of International Women’s Day, a player’s wife is being dragged through the mud because they’re attempting to shame her for her past,” Ellis said.

“It really does slam home this idea that some Neanderthals have that women are the property of men.

“Do you know what? It upsets me to the core because I think sport is a real driver in society and generally it’s a driver for good. You think of all the good things that have happened and been started in sport and here we have an international sporting contest that is essentially saying to women, the message is, ‘You come here as a Madonna, you come here pure or you don’t come here at all.’

“I don’t see fans turning up to All Blacks games with Candice Falzon masks so how dare they turn up at a South African cricket game in masks of the wife of one of the cricketers (because of someone) she was formerly involved with in some way.

“It is disgraceful, it is upsetting.”

Ellis also said the defence for sledging - what happens on the field stays on the field – didn’t wash because the South African fans had taken the sledge off-field into the public domain.

“My problem is we focus so hard on the sledging we haven’t focused on the bigger issue. We haven’t focused on the issue of what is being said about Candice Warner has nothing to do with the game,” Ellis said.

“Why in the 21st century are we talking about defending a woman? For a reference to her past relationships? The whole thing is abhorrent.”
