In the wake of a nationwide plastic bag ban coming into effect July 2, customers are sharing their inventive ways to carrying groceries – without purchasing the supermarkets' new reusable bags.

One mother from Western Australia shared her simple, but clever hack with Facebook group “Kmart Mums Australia”.

Ashleigh Hair posted a picture of her nifty idea involving a plastic tub that costs just $5.

She wrote in the private Facebook group: “With the plastic ban looming here in WA I now keep one of the $5 Kmart flexible tubs in my boot.”

“I find it a lot quicker and easier for my shopping!” she said.

Ashleigh added that she much prefers the plastic tub over fabric bags, which she said can easily get dirty without proper care.

“Let's be honest - I know I'm never going to remember to wash my fabric bags!” she told Daily Mail Australia.”

“So when I spotted the flexible tub in Kmart, I thought it would be a simple, hygienic solution.”

“Can't complain about the price either - $5, bargain!”

Ashleigh said groceries could be easily transferred to the plastic tub, which then can be placed directly into the car.

“The plastic tub, while I understand that it isn't as environmentally friendly as say a cardboard box- it is easier for me to clean, and to remember to put into the car,” she added.

Many Facebook users were quick to praise the women’s idea, while others pointed out that Ashleigh’s idea was actually against the whole idea of the plastic bag ban.
