"Super uncomfortable for everyone": Qantas plays R-rated movie for every passenger

Qantas has issued an apology after an R-rated movie was played for every passenger onboard a flight from Sydney to Tokyo.

On Saturday, the flight was delayed by an hour due to problems with the in-flight entertainment system, which resulted in cabin crew only being able to play one film on everyone's individual screens.

After requests were taken by passengers, the movie Daddio was chosen.

The 2023 drama stars Sean Penn and Dakota Johnson as a taxi driver and his passenger as they discuss their relationships, including an affair Johnson’s character had with a married man.

One passenger took to Reddit to share their experience of the flight, saying it was "extremely inappropriate", due to scenes of “graphic nudity and a lot of sexting”.

“The kind where you could literally read the texts on screen without needing headphones,” the passenger wrote.

“It was super uncomfortable for everyone, especially with families and kids on board.”

Another passenger said the airline made the switch to Inside Out 2 followed by a New Zealand nature show after playing “40 minutes of penis and boobs”.

“These poor kids and the parents because y’all should’ve heard the audible gasps across the plane,” the passenger said.

Cabin crew members attempted to fix the screens of those who didn't want to watch the R-rated film, but when this didn't work, resorted to switching the movie entirely.

“The movie was clearly not suitable to play for the whole flight and we sincerely apologise to customers for this experience,” a Qantas spokesperson stated.

“All screens were changed to a family-friendly movie for the rest of the flight, which is our standard practice for the rare cases where individual movie selection isn’t possible."

“We are reviewing how the movie was selected.”

David Byrne believes Spotify is making musicians “uncomfortable”

David Byrne has spoken out against Spotify, saying the platform is making artists feel “uncomfortable”.

The former Talking Heads performer, who removed most of his music catalogue from the streaming service in 2013, claims the publishing of “questionable or controversial content” and “misinformation” is making musicians look for other ways to showcase their music.

He said, "There’s been all these things about platforms having … let’s say questionable or controversial content [and] putting out misinformation or outright lies or … not exactly hate speech, but things that are making a lot of artists uncomfortable.”

“And it’s pretty tough to do anything to help ameliorate that unless you’re a Drake or Taylor Swift, or those kinds of artists. It’s pretty hard for the rest of us to have influence."

He told The Guardian newspaper, "A handful of mega, mega artists are doing really well, and many of the others – especially emerging artists – are having a tough time with it. There was definitely a period where I thought, ‘Oh, this is going to be tough for a lot of artists’, especially with Spotify’s ‘freemium’ layer.”

Byrne went on to cite when Taylor Swift withheld one of her albums from Apple Music over their decision to not pay artists, and noted that only a "handful" of stars are "doing really well" out of putting the music on Spotify, which is thought to pay artists an average of $0.004 per stream.

He said, “I watched as Taylor Swift went to Apple and said, ‘You can’t do this; you can’t have a freemium layer that will last forever.’ And she – I mean, bless her heart – she managed to get them to [change their policy]. Which I think was brave for her and good for a lot of the rest of us."

Byrne’s comments come after several artists, including Neil Young and Joni Mitchell, decided to pull their music from Spotify due to the platform continuing to post controversial material from podcaster Joe Rogan.

Awkward Ellen’s uncomfortable Oprah Winfrey interview

Following the announcement that Ellen DeGeneres will quit her talk show after 18 months of scandal, a question from Oprah Winfrey left her speechless.

Appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres show, Oprah mostly avoided bombshell questions, instead asking questions like “How are you actually feeling? How are you really feeling?” of her friend of over 25 years.

Winfrey also ignored the many allegations of bullying, misconduct, and a toxic workplace environment that have plagued The Ellen Show recently.

It wasn’t until Oprah brought up one topic that the very real differences between the two stars was revealed.

Ellen appeared visibly uncomfortable as Oprah spoke about the guilt she felt finishing The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2011 after 25 seasons and the knowledge that the decision would affect the huge team of employees that had “built their financial life” on the show continuing.

“When you have a large staff as you do, as I did, that staff becomes your family. These are your tribe; these are your people. You would not be who you are without those people doing the work that a lot of people don’t recognise is going on behind the scenes,” Oprah said.

“You often don’t think, as I often didn’t think, when you’re looking at people: Car insurance, mortgages, college educations being paid … for everybody on that staff, they have built their financial life, their family life, based on this show,” she continued.

“For me that was hard too.”

Ellen couldn’t hide her discomfort by that point, looking off camera and fidgeting with her hands.

Staying silent, Oprah moved the conversation along and the show soon went to a commercial break.

At another point in the interview, Oprah told her friend she expected she would “miss the camaraderie of the audience” once The Ellen Show wraps up next year, and asked Ellen what it had been like telling the crew.

“It was hard,” Ellen said. “There were tears … It was really hard.”

“I DO love everyone here, we DO have a relationship … I wanted to give them a year to celebrate with me and stay with me.”

But just hours after Ellen’s announcement, former producer Hedda Muskat slammed the host in an explosive interview with Sunrise.

Muskat was one of the first producers hired during the show’s debut season and claimed viewers had finally “woken up” to Ellen’s true nature.

“The viewers have spoken. Her ratings have been in the toilet for a long time now. Her show has not been fun, it has not been interesting, and she’s not really ‘stepping down’ - the viewers fired her,” she said.

When asked what she thought DeGeneres should do after her show comes to an end, Muskat said her former employer should “work on a farm with all of the animals and the pets and the dogs and the cows and the pigs because she can relate to animals far more than she does with people.”

Can you do something about that?”

Molan dismissed the comments as they were live on air and explained that she has a child at home and doesn’t have a lot of time.

“I have a child, I don’t have time to get ready,” Molan snapped back, which led another male radio host to jump in saying that Molan “didn’t have to explain herself.”

Despite Molan and Brohman joking about it, it seems like Brohman couldn’t let the subject go.

Throughout the segment, Molan voiced her discomfort by saying “I feel uncomfortable”, to which Brohman replied: “Well, go and put on a bra and you’ll feel better!”

The segment ended with Brohman being told to put on a bra himself and the three hosts laughed together.

View this post on Instagram

Fancy seeing ye’all here... 🙌😘😘😍 @riddell009 @lucasthetics @therealbigmarn @nrlonnine @2gb873 @wwos

A post shared by Erin Molan (@erin_molan) on Mar 28, 2019 at 11:26pm PDT

However, the Studio 10 panelists aren’t pleased with the exchange. Narelda Jacobs, after listening to the audio said that it was “disgraceful”.

“Does Erin sit there and tell Darryl to stop adjusting his nuts?” she explained with annoyance.

“I think it is absolutely terrible because it means he is looking at her boobs. They are on radio as well, so now everyone has painted a picture in their minds.”

However, Joe Hildebrand disagreed.

“It seemed awkward, but it was one of those things where everyone is still having a good time,” he said.

Angela Bishop, entertainment reporter, agreed with Jacobs.

“It's a blokey environment and Erin has forged this great female presence within that show,” she said.

“[When I heard it] I just went, 'Really? Really?"

What do you think of Darryl Brohman's inappropriate comments to Erin Molan on live radio? Let us know in the comment section.
