Why the Royals skipped Australia on their Jubilee tour

Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall did not visit Australia on their Jubilee trip because of the Federal Election.

The royal couple wrapped up their three day tour in Canada before heading back to the UK for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June.

Daily Mirror royal editor Russell Myers has explained that the reason Prince Charles and Camilla didn’t visit Australia was due to the election.

"Unfortunately [they] haven't made it over to Australia this year because of the election," Myers said on The Today Show.

"Hopefully next year. But they were pretty well received over in Canada, [Charles and Camilla] covered an awful lot of ground."

The last royal to visit Australia was Princess Anne when she arrived in Sydney to celebrate the Easter Show’s Bicentennial.

Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex last visited Australia in 2018 as their first tour as a married couple. Prince Charles and Camilla also did another tour later that year.

Queen Elizabeth has visited Australia a total of 16 times with the last time being in 2011 for a meeting with Commonwealth leaders.
