The Voice contestant who thinks he might be Elvis Presley’s grandson

Dakota Striplin, a young musician from Queensland, is currently competing in Channel 9’s The Voice and admits he and his family suspect they may have the blood of a rock 'n’ roll legend coursing through them.

The 24-year-old’s grandmother worked for Elvis Presley in Hawaii around the time Dakota’s father was conceived and after DNA results showed he was not directly related to his siblings, the family went on a mission to find answers.

“Mum started looking at dates and associations and stuff,” Dakota explained to Woman's Day.

“And she saw that it could be a possibility, because my grandma used to work for Elvis and apparently had met him and knew him. And around that time, my grandfather was away.”

Dakota’s grandmother also took his father on trips without his other siblings.

“She used to take him on trips to Hawaii by himself all the time, without the other brothers and sisters,” he said.

“No one really thought anything of it until later that maybe he was going to visit someone.”

Since Dakota’s grandparents have passed away, clear answers may never be guaranteed for Dakota and his family.

“My mum has tried to email [Elvis' Estate], and been like, 'We are just trying to figure this stuff out,'” he said.

“Obviously we don't want anything, and it's not a publicity thing or whatever, but we are just trying to find out whether this is a possibility. But we get no replies.”

The Voice Australia airs on Channel 9 on Sundays, 7pm, and Monday and Tuesday, 7.30pm.
