World’s smallest deer species born in New York City zoo weighs less than half a kilo

Queens Zoo in New York City got a tiny surprise on May 12 when a tiny male deer fawn was born weighing a mere 454 grams. The Pudu, a subspecies of the South American deer, is the world’s smallest deer species and this newborn measured an adorably small 15.24 by 15.24 centimetres at birth. As an adult, he’ll grow to a little over the size of a 30 centimetre ruler.
