"Almost proud of himself": Elderly man condemned for keying Tesla in broad daylight

<p>An elderly man has sparked outrage after being caught on camera keying a stranger’s Tesla in a Woolworths car park in Queanbeyan, near the ACT-NSW border. The incident, which occurred on Thursday, has led to widespread condemnation online.</p> <p>The Tesla’s owner, David Shannon, shared the footage of the incident on Facebook, asking the public for help in identifying the man responsible for the damage. “Is anyone familiar with this man? He keyed my car at Woolworths,” Shannon wrote in a local community group, attaching a video of the act.</p> <p>The footage shows the elderly man casually walking past the Tesla, dragging a set of keys along the car's side. After causing the damage, he pauses to inspect his handiwork before walking away. Shannon clarified in his post that his vehicle was not parked in a disabled spot, referencing the adjacent sign to avoid any misunderstandings.</p> <p>“This is not going to be a cheap fix and I’d love the opportunity to ask him nicely what drove him to this,” Shannon expressed. He later <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13878489/Key-car-Woolworths-Queanbeyan-Canberra.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">confirmed to the <em>Daily Mail</em></a> that the repairs would cost approximately $3,000.</p> <p>Though the motive for the attack remains unclear, Shannon speculated that the man may hold a grudge against electric vehicles. Many on social media were quick to criticise the elderly man’s actions, with some expressing disgust at the moment when he appeared to “admire” the damage.</p> <p>“Can’t believe someone would do that!” one commenter exclaimed, while another called the act “absolutely disgusting.”</p> <p>“It’s scary that he stands back to admire his handy work. Almost proud of himself,” another added.</p> <p>Calls for legal action have grown, with many urging Shannon to report the incident to authorities. “He needs to be held accountable and pay for the damage to the car,” one person insisted. Another lamented, “This man gives baby boomers a bad name and bad reputation!”</p> <p>NSW Police have confirmed that they have launched an investigation following reports of vehicle damage at the shopping centre on Crawford Street, Queanbeyan. “Entitled as”: Tesla driver mocked for creative parking

<p>A Tesla driver's parking skills has sparked an online debate after pictures of the vehicle parked across two parking spots was posted on Facebook. </p> <p>The black Tesla Model Y was parked at the Orion Springfield shopping centre in Queensland, and most online commenters condemned the driver's actions. </p> <p>“Of course, it’s a Tesla owner. Entitled as mentality,” one wrote. </p> <p>“They should find somewhere else to charge it or go home," another commented. </p> <p>However, some commenters pointed out that the charging station could be the problem, and with an increase in drivers choosing electric vehicles, it sparked a few questions on the accessibility of the charging stations across the country. </p> <p>“Maybe that was the only way to reach the plug? EV owners should be allowed to fuel up just as we do," one commenter wrote. </p> <p>“The one at fault … is the silver car parked in the charging spot not on charge, so I guess they [the Tesla owner] had to park like that to charge up," another said. </p> <p>In another incident last April,  another Tesla driver was criticised for parking their Model 3 – with an attached trailer – over the kerb next to the charging bay. </p> <p>However, the photo also highlighted the accessibility issues as current charging stations for EV's do not accomodate to oversized vehicles, so drivers may have to come up with other ways to charge. </p> <p>A spokesperson for Standards Australia said that a charger reform is currently being discussed by all relevant regulators. </p> <p>"There's a lot of work going on right now as our vehicle fleet becomes more electric. This includes consideration of charging infrastructure, its placement, and matters of safety and amenity," the spokesperson told<em> Drive</em>. </p> <p>"Standards Australia is working with governments, industry and the community to identify what standards are needed for charging infrastructure and how they can be embedded in our communities."</p> <p><em>Image: Drive/ Facebook</em></p>

Nick Kyrgios opens up about alleged Tesla theft

<p>Nick Kyrgios has revealed how he has been impacted by the suspected theft of his Tesla after a man allegedly forced his mother to hand over the keys at gunpoint.</p> <p>The Aussie tennis star worked with police to track the bright green car after it was allegedly stolen on May 1.</p> <p>ACT Police said a 32-year-old Canberra man <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/news/news/nick-kyrgios-mother-held-at-gunpoint-during-alleged-car-theft" target="_blank" rel="noopener">threatened Kyrgios’ mother</a> Noralia with a gun and demanded she hand over the keys to her son’s $191,000 Tesla.</p> <p>Mr Kygrios is said to have tracked his car via the Tesla app where he was able to impose a speed limit, allowing police to locate and follow the vehicle.</p> <p>The tennis great broke his silence on Instagram about the ordeal.</p> <p>“Last couple days has been rough...haven’t slept much and battling a little,” he said.</p> <p>“Appreciative of all the support.”</p> <p>ACT police raided a property in Canberra’s south on May 2 as a part of their investigation.</p> <p>They found a shotgun that was thought to be the firearm used in the robbery as well as two others, a pistol and a .177 air rifle.</p> <p>Police also seized a rented BMW that was overdue for return, commercial-grade fireworks and “substances suspected of being illicit drugs”.</p> <p>Court documents viewed by NCA <em>NewsWire </em>revealed more details about the incident.</p> <p>Ms Kyrgios told police interviewers she was worried that the man would return and “blow a hole in the door”.</p> <p>The man faced the ACT Magistrates Court on May 2 and was charged with aggravated robbery, failing to stop a motor vehicle for police, driving while suspended, driving a motor vehicle without consent and obstructing/resisting public officials.</p> <p><em>Image credit: Instagram</em></p>

Nick Kyrgios' mother held at gunpoint during alleged car theft

<p dir="ltr">Nick Kyrgios' mother, Norlaila Kyrgios, has allegedly been held at gunpoint by a man who then stole the tennis star’s bright green Tesla in Canberra.</p> <p dir="ltr">The tennis star, his manager, Daniel Horsfall, and Ms Kyrgios were all at home when she heard a knock at the door.</p> <p dir="ltr">In a statement to the ACT Police, Ms Kyrgios said that she unlocked and partially opened the front door before she saw a long-barrel gun pointed at her.</p> <p dir="ltr">A man wearing all-black clothing and a face mask, demanded she hand over the keys to her son’s luxurious car and asked her to show him how to drive it, but she didn’t know how to since it wasn’t her vehicle.</p> <p dir="ltr">The man then got into the car, and Ms Kyrgios used this as an opportunity to “run back inside and scream for help”, before Kyrgios called triple zero.</p> <p dir="ltr">Speaking to police after the incident, Ms Kyrgios was "visibly shaken and frightened" and told them that "she was so fearful that he was going to return to the house and 'blow a hole in the door'".</p> <p dir="ltr">Kyrgios was allegedly able to track his car and impose a speed limit remotely via an app, which allowed police to follow it.</p> <p dir="ltr">After about 15 minutes police had managed to track the vehicle down to a street in the suburb of Watson.</p> <p dir="ltr">They then "approached the Tesla, drew their issued firearm and aimed it towards the defendant” who then sped away, and led them to engage in a “short pursuit”, police revealed.</p> <p dir="ltr">The pursuit eventually ended when police sealed off a street in Ainslie.</p> <p dir="ltr">Police said that the alleged car thief initially refused to get out but was arrested shortly after.</p> <p dir="ltr">The 32-year-old faced the ACT Magistrates Court where he was charged with aggravated robbery, driving a stolen motor vehicle, driving while suspended, and failing to stop for police.</p> <p dir="ltr">He was denied bail.</p> <p><em>Images: Instagram</em></p>

Tesla unveils new humanoid robot at an awkward event

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Tesla CEO and billionaire Elon Musk has confused people with his latest tech product launch. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">At Tesla’s AI Day event, Musk announced his new humanoid “Tesla bot”, which prompted one analyst to call the project a “head-scratcher that will further agitate investors.”</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The entrepreneur said a 172cm, 56kg prototype robot could be ready as soon as next year. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Instead of waiting until a prototype was ready for the launch, Musk brought out a man in a  latex bodysuit that was created to look like the robot’s design. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In a bizarre twist, when the “robot” came on stage, they broke out in a dance routine lasting one minute before Musk took to the stage. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Musk didn’t give many details on the Tesla bot, but insisted it will have a “profound” impact on the economy by driving down labour costs. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“But not right now because this robot doesn’t work,” Musk noted, nonetheless insisting that, “In the future, physical work will be a choice.”</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Talk to it and say, ‘please pick up that bolt and attach it to a car with that wrench,’ and it should be able to do that,” Musk said. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“‘Please go to the store and get me the following groceries.’ That kind of thing. <p>A video of a 70-year-old woman panicking while trying Tesla’s self-driving car for the first time has gone viral.</p> <p>According to Electrek.co, Tesla owner William Rimmer decided to give his mother a taste of the car’s autopilot feature.</p> <p>"There’s no question that autopilot works. Of course, that doesn’t mean that everyone is comfortable taking their hands off the wheel,” BGR.com explained.</p> <p>To say the mum panics is an understatement! Is Apple going to release an iCar?

<p>The New York Post is speculating that technology giant Apple could be preparing to compete in the automotive market.
