The 10 worst flags in the world

Flags may look simple, but the art behind them is surprisingly complex.

First, they need to reflect a nation's identity. Second, they need to convey that identity in a clear, memorable and aesthetically pleasing manner.

That's a tall order when you're dealing with a small rectangle and two to four colours (unless you're South Sudan).

Some nations rise to the task beautifully (Canada, Wales, Japan). Others fall short. Others – specifically those listed below – fall so far short that they're underground.
