<p>Former Olympian Jana Pittman is in mourning after the sudden death of her long-time coach and friend Jackie Byrnes. </p> <p>Pittman paid tribute to Byrnes on Instagram after her death on Thursday, following a long battle with an illness.</p> <p>Byrnes had previously spoken about her ongoing journey with various skin cancers and melanomas in late 2021, saying it was “amazing” that she had survived to that point.</p> <p>The legendary sporting coach led both Pittman and Melinda Gainsford-Taylor, who also became a world champion, to the elite level while having a major impact on athletics for decades.</p> <p>Athletes both described Byrnes as a second mum in emotional tribute posts after Athletics Australia broke the news of her passing. </p> <blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; border: 0; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: 0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width: 540px; min-width: 326px; padding: 0; width: calc(100% - 2px);" data-instgrm-permalink="https://www.instagram.com/p/C7EbnHuPFlF/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading" data-instgrm-version="14"> <div style="padding: 16px;"> <div style="display: flex; flex-direction: row; align-items: center;"> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 50%; flex-grow: 0; height: 40px; margin-right: 14px; width: 40px;"> </div> <div style="display: flex; flex-direction: column; flex-grow: 1; justify-content: center;"> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 4px; flex-grow: 0; height: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; width: 100px;"> </div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 4px; flex-grow: 0; height: 14px; width: 60px;"> </div> </div> </div> <div style="padding: 19% 0;"> </div> <div style="display: block; height: 50px; margin: 0 auto 12px; width: 50px;"> </div> <div style="padding-top: 8px;"> <div style="color: #3897f0; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 550; line-height: 18px;">View this post on Instagram</div> </div> <div style="padding: 12.5% 0;"> </div> <div style="display: flex; flex-direction: row; margin-bottom: 14px; align-items: center;"> <div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 50%; height: 12.5px; width: 12.5px; transform: translateX(0px) translateY(7px);"> </div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; height: 12.5px; transform: rotate(-45deg) translateX(3px) translateY(1px); width: 12.5px; flex-grow: 0; margin-right: 14px; margin-left: 2px;"> </div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 50%; height: 12.5px; width: 12.5px; transform: translateX(9px) translateY(-18px);"> </div> </div> <div style="margin-left: 8px;"> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 50%; flex-grow: 0; height: 20px; width: 20px;"> </div> <div style="width: 0; height: 0; border-top: 2px solid transparent; border-left: 6px solid #f4f4f4; border-bottom: 2px solid transparent; transform: translateX(16px) translateY(-4px) rotate(30deg);"> </div> </div> <div style="margin-left: auto;"> <div style="width: 0px; border-top: 8px solid #F4F4F4; border-right: 8px solid transparent; transform: translateY(16px);"> </div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; flex-grow: 0; height: 12px; width: 16px; transform: translateY(-4px);"> </div> <div style="width: 0; height: 0; border-top: 8px solid #F4F4F4; border-left: 8px solid transparent; transform: translateY(-4px) translateX(8px);"> </div> </div> </div> <div style="display: flex; flex-direction: column; flex-grow: 1; justify-content: center; margin-bottom: 24px;"> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 4px; flex-grow: 0; height: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; width: 224px;"> </div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 4px; flex-grow: 0; height: 14px; width: 144px;"> </div> </div> <p style="color: #c9c8cd; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 17px; margin-bottom: 0; margin-top: 8px; overflow: hidden; padding: 8px 0 7px; text-align: center; text-overflow: ellipsis; white-space: nowrap;"><a style="color: #c9c8cd; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: 17px; text-decoration: none;" href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C7EbnHuPFlF/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading" target="_blank" rel="noopener">A post shared by Jana Pittman (@janapittmanofficial)</a></p> </div> </blockquote> <p>“It is with great sadness to share that one of my coaches Jackie Byrnes passed away last night,” Pittman wrote.</p> <p>“She coached me to my first Olympic Games and three world youth/junior gold medals... but it was more than her amazing athletic skills."</p> <p>“It was Jackie’s ability to embrace my quirks, emotions, chaos and passion. Thank you Jackie for the gift you gave us all.. genuine care and love! Rest in peace, Jackie.”</p> <p><em>Image credits: Instagram </em></p>

They will grow out of it in time and I know how privileged I am to have them when so many are struggling with infertility but gosh this is hard!!"</p> <p>Jana admitted she had even hired a sleep consult to try to help her kids' issues, but Pittman's working schedule made it hard for her kids to form a routine. </p> <p>"I work a lot of nights, so my little ones have different people caring for them. It means routine is hard," she expressed.</p> <p>She then ended her post with a call out to other parents for advice, writing, "Anything that works, please share as I am sure I am not the only one on this roller coaster."</p> <p>Many parents chimed in to the comment section sharing their pieces of advice, while the overall message to the Olympian was to hang in there, as her babies will eventually grow out of it.</p> <p><em>Image credits: Instagram </em></p>

“Love the skin you are in”: Jana Pittman’s honest snaps prompt outpouring of love

<p>Former Olympic athlete and mother-of-six Jana Pittman has taken to Instagram to share an important message on loving your body with her followers.</p> <p>Jana’s post featured a length caption that was, in her words, “close to my heart”. In it, the 40-year-old was open and honest with her supporters about the impact of motherhood on her body, time, and the “emotional and stressful journey” she has been on over the course of the last year. </p> <p>Alongside the caption came three pictures of Jana, clad in just her underwear and a glowing smile, in a series of poses. One sees her adopting the ‘Superwoman pose’, hands on her hips in a show of strength and power, and another sees her making a heart shape with her own stomach, in a sweet reflection of her “love the skin you are in” message. </p> <p>“I wanted to share these photos because they speak volumes to me. This body used to be ripped and lean, racing for Aus against the world’s best,” Jana wrote. </p> <p>“Fast forward 16 years, 6 kids later and this is where I am at. Yes this is the heaviest I have ever been, yes my body wears the beautiful scars of motherhood, especially the stretched skin from the twins at 39 years old but I am also heavy due to being so time poor!!</p> <p>“Many of my posts show this tough and crazy woman managing so many different facets of life but the reality is I have had to make choices with my time and there has been very little left for me. The last 12 months have been an emotional and stressful journey on several fronts which resulted in comfort eating here and there... so I am now the same weight as when I was heavily pregnant!”</p> <p>Jana went on to share her gratitude for her body and all that it's capable of, while admitting that it isn’t always so easy, telling fans “this is me right now and while I am not exactly comfortable, I am so grateful for this body. It has bravely taken me through so much and even though I don't always honour it, it honours me.</p> <p>“Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. Love the skin you are in.”</p> <blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; border: 0; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: 0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width: 540px; min-width: 326px; padding: 0; width: calc(100% - 2px);" data-instgrm-captioned="" data-instgrm-permalink="https://www.instagram.com/p/Co5t_B7hxOk/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading" data-instgrm-version="14"> <div style="padding: 16px;"> <div style="display: flex; flex-direction: row; align-items: center;"> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 50%; flex-grow: 0; height: 40px; margin-right: 14px; width: 40px;"> </div> <div style="display: flex; flex-direction: column; flex-grow: 1; justify-content: center;"> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 4px; flex-grow: 0; height: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; width: 100px;"> </div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 4px; flex-grow: 0; height: 14px; width: 60px;"> </div> </div> </div> <div style="padding: 19% 0;"> </div> <div style="display: block; height: 50px; margin: 0 auto 12px; width: 50px;"> </div> <div style="padding-top: 8px;"> <div style="color: #3897f0; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 550; line-height: 18px;">View this post on Instagram</div> </div> <div style="padding: 12.5% 0;"> </div> <div style="display: flex; flex-direction: row; margin-bottom: 14px; align-items: center;"> <div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 50%; height: 12.5px; width: 12.5px; transform: translateX(0px) translateY(7px);"> </div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; height: 12.5px; transform: rotate(-45deg) translateX(3px) translateY(1px); width: 12.5px; flex-grow: 0; margin-right: 14px; margin-left: 2px;"> </div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 50%; height: 12.5px; width: 12.5px; transform: translateX(9px) translateY(-18px);"> </div> </div> <div style="margin-left: 8px;"> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 50%; flex-grow: 0; height: 20px; width: 20px;"> </div> <div style="width: 0; height: 0; border-top: 2px solid transparent; border-left: 6px solid #f4f4f4; border-bottom: 2px solid transparent; transform: translateX(16px) translateY(-4px) rotate(30deg);"> </div> </div> <div style="margin-left: auto;"> <div style="width: 0px; border-top: 8px solid #F4F4F4; border-right: 8px solid transparent; transform: translateY(16px);"> </div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; flex-grow: 0; height: 12px; width: 16px; transform: translateY(-4px);"> </div> <div style="width: 0; height: 0; border-top: 8px solid #F4F4F4; border-left: 8px solid transparent; transform: translateY(-4px) translateX(8px);"> </div> </div> </div> <div style="display: flex; flex-direction: column; flex-grow: 1; justify-content: center; margin-bottom: 24px;"> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 4px; flex-grow: 0; height: 14px; margin-bottom: 6px; width: 224px;"> </div> <div style="background-color: #f4f4f4; border-radius: 4px; flex-grow: 0; height: 14px; width: 144px;"> </div> </div> <p style="color: #c9c8cd; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 17px; margin-bottom: 0; margin-top: 8px; overflow: hidden; padding: 8px 0 7px; text-align: center; text-overflow: ellipsis; white-space: nowrap;"><a style="color: #c9c8cd; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: 17px; text-decoration: none;" href="https://www.instagram.com/p/Co5t_B7hxOk/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading" target="_blank" rel="noopener">A post shared by Jana Pittman (@janapittmanofficial)</a></p> </div> </blockquote> <p>The post - tagged with the likes of #bodypositive, #beproud, #postpregnancybody, #loveyourself, and #grateful - immediately resonated with Jana’s followers, with many opening up to her and each other about their own journeys with their bodies. </p> <p>“This is an extremely important message and I myself have to remind myself what my body has done and created,” one wrote. “Love every stretch mark and dimple as this is the vessel that helped create and carry life.” </p> <p>“Thank you so much for being so raw and beautiful. I don’t have time to get into shape, I’m time poor as back at work. Sleep is actually more important for me right now! Better quality sleep!” One told Jana, to which the Olympian replied, agreeing, that going back to work can be a big step with twins who wake during the night. </p> <p>Australian swimmer Shayna Jack even joined the conversation, declaring Jana to be an “amazing inspiration.” </p> <p>And fellow Olympian Anna Meares echoed the sentiment of Shayna and hundreds of others in the comments, writing, “you continue to amaze and inspire me!” </p> <p><em>Images: Instagram</em></p>

Beloved Aussie icon Jana Pittman lists her family home for sale

<p>Former Olympian Jana Pittman is selling her family home purchased at the beginning of the pandemic following the birth of her twins earlier this year.</p> <p>The six bedroom Beecroft home was the perfect place to spend months of lockdown and Pittman made the most of it by renovating the kitchen and adding a butlers pantry after she purchased it in July 2020 for $4 million.</p> <p>She also put in solar panels and new air-conditioning while revamping the flooring.</p> <p>While the house has a large floorplan that includes a playroom and a retreat, it could still prove a squeeze as her six kids grow. The selling agent Kevin Dearlove from Stone Real Estate Beecroft said in addition to the need for more space, the move could potentially be work-related.</p> <p>The champion athlete was the first Australian woman to compete in both the summer and Winter Olympic Games and was the last woman standing in last year’s season of SAS. She also studied at medical school as a single mother and is now a doctor working in women’s health.</p> <p>It is understood that she plans to purchase a base in the city and a family home locally or in the Hills District.</p> <p>Pittman’s favourite thing about the house was its floorplan and the way the family room overlooked the pool, as well as the community feel of the suburb. </p> <p>Sustainability is an important feature for Pittman, who installed a 5,000L rainwater tank under the house and solar panels that link to a battery.</p> <p>The property also has home automation and electric gates, heated towel rails and heated flooring in the upstairs bathroom.</p> <p>The kitchen has marble benchtops and splashbacks, carbonated water on tap and three Miele wall ovens, if you’re interested in this luxurious property the home goes to auction on the 9th<br />of July with a guide of $5 million.</p> <p><em>Images: Real Estate.com.au</em></p>

“Ripped off”: SAS fans lash out at Jana Pittman not passing

<p><em>Image: Channel 7</em></p> <p><em>SAS Australia</em><span> </span>fans have aired their outage after Olympian and “super mum” Jana Pittman was eliminated from the course just before the final challenge, despite correctly completing a mission.</p> <p>During Tuesday night’s explosive finale, the remaining four recruits were tasked with a terrifying helicopter insertion into enemy territory to locate a cache containing important information about an enemy.</p> <p>Jana, who was paired up with tennis legend Mark Philippoussis, was reaching her breaking point physically. But with just seconds to spare, the two athletes completed the challenge in time.</p> <p>Despite passing the mission, Jana was eliminated by the DS.</p> <p>“Outstanding effort. We are all super proud of you. We would have loved to have brought you forward but your reserve is empty,” Ant told the mother-of-four before giving her a warm hug.</p> <p>Diehard SAS fans took to Twitter to express their outrage that Jana was culled right before the final task.</p> <p>“Really? Jana has killed it in every challenge. I’m gutted for her,” one fan wrote.</p> <p>“Not happy with that! Needed to show why Jana failed. She looked as though she passed the challenge – and didn’t pass out or leave her partner for dead,” said another.</p> <p>“So the last task is hanging on a rope and Jana is sent home? She deserved to have a go at it. Kind of ridiculous after making her do the task before,” another fan wrote.</p> <p>“Jana was incredible! I think she was a bit ripped off.”</p> <p>Viewers widely hailed Jana as a "supermum" and an inspiration to women throughout her time on the course due to her courage, grit, determination and physical strength.</p>

Jana Pittman punches Alicia Molik right off the show

<p>A confronting exercise on SAS Australia has seen celebrity recruits paired up for the vicious one-on-one battles, leaving one contender seriously injured.</p> <p>Brutal matches saw the stars fight each other as the rest of the group watched on until the ex-Special Forces soldiers told them they could stop.</p> <p>It ended with one recruit in hospital, and another walking away from the show.</p> <p><strong>Recruits must fight each other</strong></p> <p>In the second task of Monday night’s episode, the recruits had to test their physical and mental resilience in hand-to-hand combat.</p> <p>“You stand toe-to-toe at all times," said staff Ant Middleton. "This isn’t boxing. No f**king dancing around, no defending yourselves, the only form of defence is attack.</p> <p>“The only way you’re going to counter the violence, is with extreme violence."</p> <p>The first recruit up was former AFL player Heath Shaw. Asked to pick an opponent, he chose the biggest in the pack, ex-South Sydney Rabbitohs caption Sam Burgess, who eventually won the fight.</p> <p>The group was then asked to volunteer to fight surfer Koby Abberton, and five guys put raised their hands.<span> </span><em>Home and Away</em><span> </span>actor Dan Ewing was chosen to take on the Bra Boy surfer.</p> <p>Abberton came out the winner.</p> <p><strong>Recruits uncomfortable watching girls fight</strong></p> <p>In another alarming battle, the oldest recruit on the show, 55-year-old beach volleyball legend Kerri Pottharst, was paired with track athlete Jessica Peris, 28.</p> <p>Jess clearly overwhelmed the Olympic gold medallist who kept turning her back.</p> <p>Singer Bonnie Anderson teared up watching the fight, while Abberton was visibly upset, commenting, “Don’t hit too hard on her face.”</p> <p>He even lunged forward during the fight, wanting to intervene, and whispering, “Stop.”</p> <p>“My life has been around violence,” he admitted. “Violence towards women, that’s my mum’s life. Girls are strong people.</p> <p>“I have a five-year-old, I don’t want him to grow up the way I grew up, I don’t want him to see that sort of violence”.</p> <p><strong>Pete Murray injured</strong></p> <p>Next up, former tennis player Mark Philippoussis went against 51-year-old Pete Murray.</p> <p>They slugged it out as the directing staff chanted, “come on,” “keep fighting,” “punch straight.”</p> <p>Suddenly Murray dropped to the ground. He had painfully dislocated his elbow.</p> <p>The recruits looked uneasy as he held his arm in pain.</p> <p>“What are you staring at, this is what its all about,” DS Jason ‘Foxy’ fox said. “Get your head in the game, if you don’t like watching it, f**k off.”</p> <p>Murray asked the on-site doctor if he could pop it back into place, but was told he needed hospital and X-rays.</p> <p>Given the seriousness of the injury, he was medically withdrawn from the course.</p> <p>Middleton then addressed the rest of the recruits.</p> <p>“I told you, you’re going to get cuts, bruisers, stitches, breaks, it’s what I said at the beginning, this is not a f**king game,” he says.</p> <p>“If you don’t like it, give me your numbers, grab your kit and f**k off.”</p> <p><strong>Alicia Molik withdraws</strong></p> <p>The last fight of the night was dual Olympian Jana Pittman against tennis champion Alicia Molik.</p> <p>During the fight, Pittman was more of the aggressor and Molik stepped back and turned away.</p> <p>She then fully walked away and Middleton asked if she wanted to quit. She handed over her number, becoming the sixth to voluntarily withdraw from the course.</p> <p>“I just got scared,” she admitted. “I thought I’d be a good fighter, I tried my best."</p>
